Put the stacer in yesterday about lunch. The Mazda CX-5 unloaded the boat powered by shell 98 petroleum.

The plan was get live bait then head north for some trolling and spinning. Conditions were ok, swell looked a bit bigger than the 1.1 ENE willy weather forecast.

Got bait easy enough - a couple of yakkas and a few tailor.

Trolled a rapala x rap and a live bait using a poor mans downrigger comprsing a 5'6 samaki rod and the Penn SSV 8500 with 50lbs daiwa J braid and 60lbs samaki fluorocarbon. The trusty 6/0 gamakatsu double hooks held the bait in place.

Rod buckled over and took a lot of drag out. After a strong fit I got a smallish bull shark to the boat. He got sideways on me and cut the line.

Did a few more passes. Spotted a nuggety looking fish on the Lowrance elite 7ti. Managed to hook it on the live bait, up to the boat comes a black rock cod. Knowing this is a threatened species I very quickly unhook the fish and release him/her unharmed. Thankfully the water was only 10 metres and the fight was very quick, I'm sure s/he survived, it blazed off quickly. Shame they were overfished, it's a beautiful looking fish.   Massive bucket mouth - could have swallowed me probably.

Headed back to near the boat ramp, anchored up and put out another livey, butterflied yakka and also castes my halco twisty lures from the bow. Just close to sunrise the live bait reel took off. After a good fight up comes the largest eagle ray I've ever seen, this thing was a dinosaur! Got a look at the spikes on the tail, looked a solid 6 inches, I really didn't want to get hit with one of those.

Headed back to the ramp at Terrigal, bugger of a ramp to use single manned. Thankfully the minn Kota powered by the century battery helped with the task. One guy forgot the bungs, got the boat back to the beach just in time, thought he might need to make a claim against his club marine policy.

Great day on the water, didn't get to catch the target species but got some bent rod and downtime and that's enough for me. Thanks for reading.

What a crack up Luke. Advertising interspaced with a bit of a fishing report. The things we have to put up with, honestly.

Obviously the seas weren't too bad or you would have made mention of the special anti sea sick tablets from the specialised chemist shop.

I'm still laughing. Good one. BN

Great report ET (sorry FHL). Noticed you didn't have any issues with seasickness. Any tips/gratuitous plugs?

Thanks Pete. I normally pop a couple of travelcalm when heading in open waters (my boat is a Stacer rampage 4.2) but ran out. I left on an emptyish stomach, minimise Mount Franklin intake and snacked on Carmens berry muesli bars. I also stuck to shallower water close to the rocks.
