  1. Not sure about Parsun, don't know anything about them, where they are made or quality. Do your homework! You get what you pay for in boating. Are you looking at 2 stroke? Also you need to check what shaft length you need for your boat. I have a short shaft on my tinny.
  2. Might be a bit hard on the sand but there are some great DIY eskies out there. If you do a lot of land based fishing & depending on location I recon I would be doing something like this to.
  3. kMy quintrex sportsman had a 20hp on it when I replaced it & think for memory it's rated 20 but as I wanted mercury seapro they only had 15 & 25hp so the guys at the dealership checked out my transom & said no issue, it had support braces & was solid as. The 2 motors were pretty much the same weight just that 5 more up on the 25. Just get the transom checked out. Can you put up a picture of the internal area of your transom?
  4. Nice work GH but doesn't look like any wind any wind off that beach Each to their own on gear selection. What if you want to use the same rod & go from lure to baits with a paternoster & the winds blowing 20kph into your face?
  5. Doesn't exist on here
  6. Welcome aboard Rum https://www.fishraider.com.au/topic/75391-fishing-port-stephens/
  7. @Rebel as Pauline Hanson would say please explain 🤨 Who's the critic here??
  8. Mate I recon its an eastern frog fish Also just an FYI FFR this is the place to post fish ID questions https://www.fishraider.com.au/forum/40-the-aquarium/ If you have a look at some of those stickied threads you will also see there is some reference material as well.
  9. Nice, but I thought you would have put a plug for you business in there somewhere! Great looking boat to 😁
  10. I would be using 12lb-15lb mono. If your just chasing Taylor/ salmon etc 12lb will be fine. Brands, well Platypus lo stretch or Berkley trilene sensation is what I normally use. You have to remember Taylor in particular have sharp teeth, go to light & they will chew through lines if not hooked through the mouth. Also don't forget when fishing off the beach you can come across lots of different species & some big salmon & taylor like in @JonD country
  11. In the 70's if you lost a 65lb fish on 18lb mono it was no problem, re rig or re hook & just go again & there was another 65lb fish lined up behind the last one, we now generally speaking don't have the luxury of having a large number of fish to play Russian roulette on so yes at times if you want to have a better chance of land a decent sized fish then you need to up the anti. Sure some people love that light sports fishing factor, I think most good fisho's want to use as light as possible to feel the fight in the fish, that all comes down to being location & circumstance dependant as in some condition you do absolutely need 50/80lb+ braid & 100lb+ leader to catch a 30kg giant trevally over reef or rock to have a chance! Not sure what youtubes your watching but maybe Id suggest just change channels, there is some very cool vids out there where guys are catching some cracking fish on light gear, & guys catching very big fish on heavy gear.
  12. Another awesome fish, its prerty much a once in a life time fish for most of us.....if we are lucky! I'd like to hear more about the gear it took to catch it & what the weight was if possible Jon? I've watched quite a few episodes of that US show wicked tuna & they are using some pretty hard core gear compare to this. I get that the bluefin are probably bigger but still that looks like a more than decent yellow!
  13. Good on you for getting out early on a cold morning. Yes in a lot of my metals I change out the treble for a single hook, makes dealing with sharp teeth so much easier. I also switched all my beach reels over to mono. Wind & line overrun will always tend to result in knots in braid when long casting. Is that a BG your using? If you got a spare spool then spool one with mono for the beach.
  14. Catching them is one thing, landing them is another 🤣
  15. The egg makes a nice 1 egg omelette to, for 10 😂
  16. Well done but in my defence & stopped playing a week ago 😏🤣
  17. Same set up as me 👍
  18. Long shanked hook through the back of the underside through the back of the top with the hook exposed. Well after you have just severely incapacitated them by sticking a hook through their guts I don't like their chances of being able to burrow 😁 Mind you Im not a fan, Id rather use nippers.
  19. And sometimes thats 100% correct. I can put up with a bit of rain but when the wind gets in most places in the bay there's not to many places to hide. And the places that you can hide most of the time may not really hold fish. If it's a westerly you could sit behind molly point & bear island & stick in close to the runways, if it's E/SE not much you can do. Maybe a couple of corners in the George's you can hide behind. @Dansindan, I've driven to foreshore rd ramp before, looked at the wind & said this isn't what I ordered, turned around & went home. And that way with a report that said 10knt winds & it was 20+ Just not worth it imo, I like to got out & enjoy the day even if I don't catch any fish!
  20. Definitely beanie weather last few days. Nice work getting the jewies, shame about just missing out though. Warming up & wind dropping as the week goes on. Wednesday & Thursday look like cracker, fingers crossed.
  21. No, I don't know the area. But you need to look for the burrow holes in the sand in the shallows & tidal flats. There is no point pumping if there are no holes to be seen.
  22. Wow, very cool boat ☺️ I love the look & functionality of those US open boats. For memory I think that the same boat they use as the support boat in that show Shark Men on Nat Geo Edit: no they use a contender, very similar design though! I bet you cant wait, it will be a fun boat & very capable no doubt 👌
  23. Smart thinking Whats the boat that's coming anyway?? When it gets here we have a page to show off your rigs, would be good to see it!
