  1. You were keen 😂 Enjoy the new buys, might have been a bit to much to ask all at once 😕 Still with that nice sounding 23ft CC on the way im wonder why you want to fish inshore so much? Not that there is anything wrong with that! You can never have to many rods, its good to have something in each weight class. So many styles of rods around now, in the old days you would just use 1 or 2 & they still caught fish! I am missing a heavy rod in my collection, think I am going to get an Ugly Stik gold 37kg for 1mtr + kings
  2. All good @Fletch04, not only are these old threads good to look at for info but you can also get to see who else is fishing the same location & you could try to PM them for local advice. Enjoy & good luck.

  4. Welcome to the forum. When looking for info its a wise idea to use the search tab just like you would use google. These are a few as example but there is more- On your intended location all I can say is just give it a go!!
  5. Mate they may have been $2.50 in 1931 but they are worth a bit more now as collectors items 😉 Model 1869's are going anywhere from $35-$50 depending on condition!
  6. Used to walk amongst 1000's of them on the west end of jimmy's beach Port Stephens back in the mid to late 70's as a young bloke. Never really picked them up as dad was more intend on getting pody's & nippers. Took a just a few for just in case though 😁
  7. So you old transducer worked on this mount?? Im not familiar with yak mounts. I did see a cool mod the other day somewhere that could help but would have to find it again. Looking at that plate I don't really see how anything is supposed to fit to it & work?
  8. I don't think its teething issues at all. Ok, so normally if a mapping GPS isn't fitted with the mapping software then you would need to install the software & with a key code, they cost money! The way I see it from what you say the Hook 5 unit doesn't have the mapping software installed if that's the case then it wont accept mapped data from another unit or source. This is part of how any GPS based product producer makes their coin. I have had quite a few Garmin products & the mapping software is not transferable. Usually data would be encrypted in some way so it will not be transferable without having the correct software & product code. You will be able to make waypoints on the unit but of course they will only come up on the base map. In saying that there could be a way of putting just the waypoints on but I would have to see if that's possible first hand, not really something I could say can be done over a forum thread. That's the best I can give you.
  9. With clips you also have to be aware of breaking stains, depending on what your catching & the size of clip your using it could very well be the weak point between the line & the lure! I do use clips, from time to time, mainly for squiding & deepsea fishing. I like the look of those Norman clips, but wouldn't use them for a one size fits all kind of fishing. Definitely wouldn't use them for SP fishing.

You need to check the local councils requirements. Have a look through these threads- This is also a link to a NSW gov website showing declared areas https://www.watersafety.nsw.gov.au/Pages/rock-fishing/lifejacket-law.aspx And this one on rock fishing safety https://www.watersafety.nsw.gov.au/Pages/rock-fishing/rock-fishing-safety.aspx
  11. It depends on how you are fishing & what lures you are using. I know you have mentioned salmon & taylor which they would be fine for lures that the guys above have mentioned for example I was using say a bibbed lure then the clip would restrict the motion of the lure. In those cases I then go to a perfection or Rapala loop knot. This is an example on hot to tie it
  12. The term best isn't easily defined. Is it the "best' you can afford? Is it the "best" and most expensive? Is it what works the "best"? Anyway you dont need the "best" equipment to catch fish but having the best knowledge will help you more. I would rather know the best rig tying methods, the best understanding of the target species habitat & what bait or lure they will prefer to take over the best rod & reel combo. Personally I wouldn't get caught up in the expense side of fishing, that is unless you have the coin to buy $1200 rods & reels. Buy what you can afford, obtain knowledge & just get the best life experience & enjoyment you can out of your time on the water. I have seen plenty of people over the years that have the coin to buy the most expensive gold clubs but couldn't hit a ball, or the most expensive snow ski's that couldn't do a parallel or even snow plough properly! Have a look at this thread-
  13. Mate I was just kidding, I knew what you meant. I am by no means trying to turn the kitchen some fine dining thing. Like I said early in the piece I am just trying to show there is something else that can be done to our catch other than turning it into fish & chips every time. So merely trying to broaden peoples horizons so to speak.
  14. What's a social map?? So your old recorded data is in the same format at the new sounder?? How are you trying to transfer the data? Copy to SD card then load SD card into new Lowrance unit?? Doesn't recognise card or files??
  15. Wow Zoran, that's awesome that your looking after the little fella's special needs Still not sure what to think about your last statement though 🤨 My food is either only fit for the dogs OR its good enough to feed to most precious extended family member 😏………..🤣 Archie looks pretty stoked either way 👍
  16. Welcome aboard. Yeh I think you are referring to slimy or also called blue mackerel. I had a similar experience once at the wharf off the back of fish coop at Nelson bay when I was a kid. Think we caught 75 in 30 minutes with a hook & no bait.
  17. The main ballroom actually holds about 3500 standing so we do canape events up to that number But plated its about 2000 due to tables etc. All their kitchens are very well set up but in this particular kitchen it has 4 conveyor belts which the entrée is pre plated except for the oil/finishing touches. The kitchen is broken into 2 sections & we serve 50% of the event from each kitchen. This kitchen has 27 x20 tray Rational combi ovens @ $35000 each but Im sure they got a discount seeing as they probably have around 60 of these in the complex, We have large storage trolleys that hold 140 plated entree's at a time & its a fair bit of coordination to be sending this & getting main courses ready as well. This is some of the team starting to get the entree's up & ready for service, we need to have a certain amount ready, then remove any trolleys/gear we don't need before about 75 waiters invade the kitchen. As service starts we continue to finish entree's on the conveyor & restack the plate stackers until we are done. Then reset for main course. Different entrée in this picture though.
  18. Surprising where they will hang out. Shame it was just a bit short, nice looking fish though.
  19. @Lachlan Nits not very good etiquette to highjack someone else's thread. For your questions relating to tackle ect post them here- https://www.fishraider.com.au/forum/14-tackle-talk/
  20. I would guarantee you I could line you up a minimum of 3 different dishes with 3 different fish used including morwong as one in a blind tasting & you would have no idea which fish is which. You've obviously had a bad experience with morwong through being cooked in a way that overly enhances the lesser qualities in it.
  21. So its been 6 weeks now since I have been off the tools waiting for this CV19 thing to be over but have been looking at some shots of dishes I have help produce for events at work. Its not really the sort of thing you would try to produce at home but just showing you an idea of what we serve for plated events up to about 2000 people. So the dish is- Torched Hiramasa Kingfish with yuzu gel, charred baby corn, corn puree, compressed cucumber, salmon caviar, squid ink mayonnaise, togarashi popcorn, shaved bottarga, edible flowers & green herb oil. So 11 different elements on a plate.
  22. You know me Dieter, I just love the idea of turning the fruits of my efforts into the things I enjoy to eat, land or sea. By the way when this CV19 thing is over I will have a new 12V road chef oven going into the 4x4 that is portable, then I can cook lots of great stuff on the water & in the middle of nowhere as well
  23. Maybe you could show us some of your recent catches with these reels in fishing reports Rebel! Cant say I've ever seen you post a fishing report in 1067 posts??
  24. Hi Mat, I learnt my lesson, I now use mono when fishing off the sand or rocks but with a spinning reel. Cuts will happen with braid & yes it will tangle mainly due to wind & overrun of the line. I use braid for everything else with the exception of trolling for large game. I wouldn't use wire for GT's but I would be taking something bugger than 80lb ono/fluro leader!
