  1. I have fished with quite a few SP brands & styles in squidgies, Zman, Gulps, Storm etc & I have always had better success with the gulps(mostly shad's). I went to the big snake store on Sunday to get some Hawkesbury prawns as I wanted to have some baited lines out while using 1 SP rod & while I was there I looked in the bargain bin & there was 4 packets of 3" gulp jerkshad's in satay & nuclear chicken for $5 a pack & I just swooped them up & said yes thanks ๐Ÿ˜ I was fishing 3 rods, 2 with the prawns & one with the gulps, there were a lot of small fish around that usually smash bait but I had more hits on the gulps than the bait, even when it was just sitting on the bottom while I was drifting, & I have also caught a few fish on SP's while the rod is in the holder! So the scent out of the packet I think is even a better attractant than many fresh/frozen baits imo. Also caught the Trevally I kept on the Gulp which was a first for that species on SP โœŒ๏ธ Totally agree with the others that Zman's can be a pain to get onto the jighead properly because they are so soft while the Gulps are so much stiffer & easier to put on & get straight.
  2. That's a huge wobbigong, have to be a FR record for sure?
  3. You can keep the yakka's, I'll take the slimmies ๐Ÿ˜
  4. Hi FR's, went out for a fish in BBay yesterday & while there was not a great deal to report apart from catching a few squire around 25cm mark, a few Taylor that were busting up in big schools which were all returned I did end up catching an legal size silver trevally & as I had always heard how good they were for sashimi but never tried I though I would take it home I have a meal out of it. I must admit I didn't have many ingredients in the fridge but then again for sashimi you only need 4 really imo, fish, soy, pickled ginger wasabi. But hey I dont do 4 ingredient food.........ever๐Ÿ˜‚ Decided I was going to have a little play & did 2 different plating styles with the same ingredients. So ended up making a Trevally tartare out of the belly pieces with tomato, avocado & pickled ginger, cucumber, made a ponzu dressing, had a nori sheet left over from the last time I made sushi & there is the result. After I took the pictures I realized I was missing a key ingredient which was the wasabi, which I added when devouring ๐Ÿ˜ Verdict-Oishii
  5. Monster ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I'm not sure what the record is on here but I recon you should submit it- But maybe you should have submitted the 60cm model! https://www.fishraider.com.au/forum/25-submit-your-record-fish-pics-here/
  6. Sounds like your on the right path with the jigheads & plastics. What line & leader strength are you using? Looking at what your fishing for I would tend to be using 8lb main line & anywhere from 6lb to 10lb fluro leader Rod line class?? Again looking at the areas your fishing I'd be using something like a 3-5lb rod. As XD351 has said you need to think about what your trying to catch & fish the method for that species, you might catch another species but your mindset should be I am targeting flathead today so I will keep the SP on the bottom, give it a couple of quick pump ups, wind a little line in & watch the line for the SP to hit the bottom, then repeat. Keep at it mate, once that first one comes the flood gates will open. Good luck.
  7. Fishing artificials imo is more rewarding than fishing with bait but it is harder as your essentially tricking the fish. Your right we can't tell what's going on & why you aren't catching fish without going into specifics. Right leader size, right Jighead weight, right colour SP's, right technique, right locations all matters. Can you give more detailed info, what your chasing, what your using tackle wise, boat or shore based. We can't give feedback without some info supplied!
  8. You need to set up a trail cam! At least then you have something to take to the coppers!
  9. If your aware of the penalties why would you even contemplate such an act?? Especially for a few bream! They should throw the book at them for sure ! There is no excuse but personally I think there needs to be more media advertisement thrown at this type of activity on main stream TV time slots! The fines for even minor fishing offences way exceeds that of traffic infringement but why not the same kind of general public media programs with fishing & boating like there is with motor vehicle offences???? You see adds all the time on TV about speeding, drink driving etc but nothing about fishing that I know of?? Maybe the lack of media publicity is linked to fine quotas?? Just saying ๐Ÿ˜•
  10. Unfortunately great weather days dont always produce the fish but it makes for a great day out. Still one great quality fish in the flounder. Shame the Wirrah wasnt double the size, I have read some people saying they are tough as an old boot while others say great to eat, would be interested in trying one myself.
  11. Nice result from new grounds. Hope you enjoyed the whiting ๐Ÿ˜‹
  12. Boat or land based? By boat have come across slimies all over the place. Shoal bay for slimies & Gars & caught them on the other side towards jimmies Beach. Also if you set a poddy mullet trap at most beaches your allowed to you'll get some. Yakka's usually hang around the piers & pylons, will come to the burley along with all the other pickers.
  13. The forecast was always looking that way today Dave & unfortunately sometimes what the heart wants the mind is willing to put the facts aside. I've turned around at the ramp before & gone home because what I saw was not what was forecast & other times have gone out in the same situation & in a matter of sticking it out for a couple of hours it turned out like they mentioned just later. If the forecast is for 10knt & above from the start of the day I dont even bother getting out of bed as generally its going to be more like 15-20knt, my little tinny does not like that much.
  14. Here's a couple of James youtubes which you might get something from Its like the forest gump movie, you never know what your ganna get! Sounds like you have a plan so the fish just have to be there. Could be a bit windy though! Good luck
  15. What does this "slot limit" mean?? Does it mean that you cant take a FH over 70cm?? Not that I normally would but if a fish that size has sustained what would be a fatal injury when being caught & would not most likely live then that would mean that you could then not keep it in possession otherwise you could be fined?? If thats the case then I disagree. I return any FH I catch over 55cm anyway but if a fish wont survive that that would be a waste imo!
  16. That bit of pavement is the most photographed piece of land on FR ๐Ÿ˜‚ Well done as usual
  17. A couple of nice fish there, well done. Looks like a great day just to be out on the water, catching a fish is always a bonus.
  18. Me, $500 fine for 295mm snapper. Measured with a tape measure as I didnt have a mat on me at the time. A mistake I will never make again!
  19. If your found in possession of an undersized fish it can be up to a $500 fine per fish! And on top your fishing gear, car, boat, trailer can also be seized it the offence is bad enough!! Dont screw with fisheries, if its 5mm under size then it will cost you $100 per mm ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Also fishing in the wrong spot can be a similar fine. Make sure you check the DPI website for size & bag limits for fish & anything that comes out of the ocean plus check maps for sanctuary zones, the fishsmart nsw is a good app to have on your phone
  20. Some people do use release weights to get fish back to the depths they came from quickly. https://www.fishingworld.com.au/how-to/diy-release-weight
  21. Thanks for the recipe scratchie, simple & works........love it! The only problem with beer batters is they usually give me a headache........................... because I have to buy a case of beer just to put 1/2 a cup in the batter ๐Ÿ˜‚ If I can add, there are so many people now that have diet specific needs, for example gluten free. You can adapt recipes if you do have something like celiac disease by using a GF beer which are available now & a variety of GF flours like rice flour, tapioca flour & besan flour & there are plenty more. You just have to play around with the ratio's Another great batter is Tempura, a well known Japanese batter. For me fried fish is a sometimes food as I have high cholesterol these days which is why I try to promote other forms of fish cooking. But hey you still have to enjoy the simple things in life sometime right & after the drinking the rest of the case of beer I usually crave a burger & fries
  22. Great fish Max, well done. Looks like a cracker of a day to be on the water.
