  1. The reel could be over spooled or it was not spooled under enough tension?
  2. Nice report mate, well done on the king. Nothing like a fight like that to get the heart pumping
  3. Great to hear from you Waza Best wishes in your recovery mate 🙂
  4. You know me Jeff, always the kidder 😛 But you absolutely have to have some "match fitness" with fishing or anything physical really & even more so if your going to be doing a few days in a row! I recently did a 2 day a week over 4 weeks stint helping my company out during lockdown out of my normal role working with security & really didnt know how much they did but after working 2 x 12 hour days walking on average 33000 steps a day & not doing anything for 3 months because of lockdown after the 1st 2 days I couldnt walk! I recon going deepsea fishing for half that time can be even harder & more physical in the rough!
  5. 😂🤣😂 Another hard to take day for you Jeff, looks like a mill pond day, the suns out & you have to go fishing...................again ✌️ Thats a great looking batter there to
  6. People troll with spinning gear for fish such as Marlin etc alot these day. If I am limited to the number of rods I can take on a trip then I will even use my Daiwa monster mesh with a sealine bull 6000hi reel for trolling, then use the same rod to jig for kings. Otherwise if able to I would take my Penn 10-15kg steeltip with my Penn GT330(USA made) at it has bigger line capacity.

    Bungs

Have you ever put a nylon tap on a jerry can & the grabbed a hold of it & pulled it up as hard as you can by hand?? 9 times out of 10 it will just pop out of the threads. Being in such a prominent spot on the hull/transom & extended it would only have to kiss something solid & then there's a 20mm opening at the back of your boat. Even a pin %%%%% of a hole on the hull will let in a decent amount of water over time as its under pressure, being forced down onto the water. Most bungs also have a retainer as well so cant be fully removed so no forgetting that at home. My tinny just has a simple solid plastic bung which is inside from the inside & I always keep a spare on board.
  8. Thanks Neil, I think its been a very hard time for so many people in many different ways recently & also seeing other people being able to enjoy themselves when you cant does play on your mind a bit & at times can cause a bit of angst. I think the overall message is to not take the simple things in life for granted & take every opportunity when you can to get out there & do the things you love to do. Its one thing Covid has accentuated!
  9. Think I've said it before, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree 🙂 I dont think there are many moments that can top these family bonding experiences & the age we live in means long into the future the memories can be relived on & looked back upon. Its great to be able to teach & catch fish together but I think its the time just spent with dad, kids & siblings that is the bigger bonus!
  10. Great effort, I plan on doing some night sessions this spring/summer on the Georges & would be stoked to get something close to those. What are you running? 20lb braid & 20-30lb fluro?
  11. Yeh but they normally have to be bigger than the lure to get a decent feed 🤣
  12. Cheers scratchie, its always nice to show a pic of some bruit of a fish but when you haven't been able to get out on the water for months then as you say just catching a fish is a bonus 😁 Its a bit like when I used to play golf badly, I only had to birdie one hole & it made the whole day worth it & kept me coming back for more 😂 Cheers BH, was worth a try! I actually had to MacGyver the whole thing as the suction mount was from a Hummingbird & was much wider at the connection than the Lowrance. Still glad I tried it as now I know I dont need to drill new holes into the hull. But of course I wish I had a sounder that worked properly though. Absolutely Next time out I want to target some whiting & bream but really I'm waiting for the kings to show up. Got to tick that one off the bucket list for the bay, a legal king.
  13. Hi all, bit of a late report from yesterday. Finally after being let out of the cage we are able to enjoy the simple things in life again & the old saying is so true where you dont know how much you miss something until its gone. When the work roster came out over a week ago & I saw that I had the Monday I started salivating at the thought that I could finally get out for a fish but as we all know to well mother nature makes other plans so I tried to curb my excitement but still take all steps to get ready. I had just the week before that done a service on the 25hp seapro, changing the gear oil, changing the impellor using a genuine kit, grease everything up ready to go. Also to add, I have not changed the impellor since I have had the motor since 2010 & it looked as good as the new one! Again just to add, I retro fitted my sounder transducer to the other side of the transom(starboard) but it actually performed worse, those cheap Lowrance's are duds imo(mentioned from a previous thread) The weather report looked magic, sunshine, light winds & zero chance of rain, magic On the water by 6.30am, water temp 18*c, had a mate join me as well for some company which was great as I usually fish on my own, high tide was 7.45am so got the last hours or so of the incoming & intended to say till about 10am. I mainly wanted to try for some flatties using my own skutes, early on the wind was a bit higher than the 8knt forecast & the drift was a bit fast. Caught a few of squire on another baited line. No joy on the skutes for so then decided to move over towards molly & try for some trevally using bait. While we the lines out I decided to through out a metal just for the fun of it & ended up with 2 just legal Taylor but returned them to be caught another day. Ended up over at the cans, not much happened there. Moved back to the 3rd runway & by this time the wind had dropped right off & we stayed out a bit longer because it was so nice. Caught a few flathead on PS on 20mtrs of water, again just legal but returned. My intention is to always bring something home for dinner but at the end of the day 9 fish caught, 9 fish retuned but it sure was just fantastic being out on the water, with a mate, feeling a tug on the end of the line again, some sun & sea spray on the face........................loved it 😁
  14. Hi all, came across this on youtube not long ago & thought I would share. While this was specific to my model of 25hp seapro I dont see why it wouldnt work with with any manual choke pull start 2 stroke?? At times using the standard starting method I have had to pull the starter cord maybe up to 6 times to get the motor to start, once it starts & warms up it starts with a single pull the rest of the day. So when I saw this I thought hey why not give it a try. 1st attempt & did it as per the video, connect the fuel line, prime the fuel, pull choke out, remove kill switch lanyard, set the throttle to idle, give it one pull, push the choke back in, re install the lanyard, pull again & whamo she started straight away 😲. I have been using this method now & the motor starts the very next pull after the 1st priming start every time.......................thats gold 💰 If you have a similar pull start motor then I think its worth a try, would be interesting to hear if it works on other motors. Fyi, think my motor is a 2010 but still look the same as this one.
  15. Yes, you can check it out in the kitchen
  16. I rate Flounder up there close with John Dory myself, very similar but JD would be the prize. Wish we had more of them around but you cant beat flounder as a local fish imo, beats flathead hands down!
  17. I presume your coming out of Brisbane waters? 1st & only time fish up that way we caught some rat kings trolling feathers along the headlands at middle head. So sometimes the fish can be at your doorstep & you drive right past them.
  18. Think that's the one I netted then lost in Botany bay 🙄 😂 Cracker, well done tradie mates dad..........
  19. I have a suction cup mount I can try with the transducer on the starboard side to see if it makes a difference. Cheers.
  20. It is the only place it can go really, I dont think going wider on the transom will matter as I can only go over another 3 or 4 inches
  21. Its what ever works for you Noel! This works for me! I will add this is for bay fishing only. If I was at sea I might choose another option on positioning
  22. Id also question the Lowrance transducers. Ive got a Hook2 4 & is never worked over 10nts & yes I have it in the right spot on my hull & adjusted at the right angle Well its actually the only spot really. I had heard that a lot of people having trouble with the units which is why I suspect they were going so cheap not long ago! Friend of mine got a Hook5 for his boat, same deal. I hate to give negative feedback but when its warranted then yeh. I wouldn't be keen to buy a Lowrance again no matter the price!
