  1. Fantastic report and pics! Sounds very productive too. That is a nice near-PB flatty.
  2. Great stuff. I might be using these tips one day. I think the comments in the other thread were led down that path because of a misunderstanding of where it was caught. West of Harbour Bridge is not recommended for consumption but Middle Harbour is fine if I'm not mistaken. The rest of it is personal preference - e.g. some people like their salmon and tailor and others prefer not. Anyway, the photo's of the food and preparation look good! Not sure what that nasty eel is though, doesn't look local?
  3. Mate that is treason! But seriously awesome effort from your mate and (dodgy effort for your jighead).I feel for ya. You'll get em next time for sure!
  4. I guess you could put some kind of floating cloth or fabric on top of the water too. F1 uses a similar concept (I think) to keep fuel down low when the car is taking corners at high g's etc.
  5. Pity about the conditions. At least you guys still went out and had a go.
  6. Nice catches. I'm no expert but that doesn't look like a bream to me, but a tarwhine. Can someone confirm?
  7. Congrats, definitely call that 43 cm. Try targeting tarwhine next time!
  8. This thread is gold! I also agree with Tom. I like bait and lure fishing, though much prefer lures. It (possibly) has a steeper learning curve than bait and most people that start off may struggle to get any hits for a decent period of time before cracking the code. I think this is what gets people hooked - the moment they are able to become one with the lure and fool the very first fish. Suddenly everything becomes clear and its a light bulb moment. All those hard hours spent reading material online, watching youtube, and field practice (learning to fish with slack line instead of taut, dealing with wind knots which seemed to have come overnight that weren't there when bait fishing, finding the correct time to strike at apparent nibbles which would be ignored when bait fishing etc.). Then to reapply those techniques for the very next cast and come up empty handed! A constant learning process.
  9. Well done! That is a solid jewie any way you put it.
  10. Nah just under the pylons itself. Which spot is the one from around the bend? Is it the one about 20 m to the left Riverwood side (when facing the water) or further down stream?
  11. Good stuff Ben! Was there earlier in the arvo on that day but didn't get any bites. I picked up a bream around the corner tho at the pipes. I sent you a PM about it last night, don't think you've read it yet.
  12. Nice flatty and good on you for releasing her.
  13. Thought that protruding stomach was a lure until I read the report!
  14. Yep, you should definitely check out that thread Scratchie is referring to. It is literally the most comprehensive repository of jewfish information on the web. Not to mention the fact that there is a jewfish report every other day being posted on fishraider.
  15. That's fantastic! I'm glad I'm using Shimano reels
  16. Prawn on a lure?! Now I've seen it all. For me at least, nailing a bream on a lure is the best feeling. Yet to get a jewie on one but that might be better still.
  17. Congrats! I've been meaning to get into HB's for bream too. I think I might end up getting a Berkley fat dog shallow diver. Seems to be the goods around here. How did you lose the lure? Was it a flathead and it sawed through the line or something else like knot failure?
  18. That's fantastic! Which part of the water column were you working the lure?
  19. Great report and nice jewies mate! You do look a bit tired in that picture
  20. Better luck next time! I had a quick flick today and scored a donut. Firstly I forgot to bring my 1000 reel so I had to make do with a 6" foot rod coupled to a size 4000 reel. Flicking plastics with such an unbalanced rod was not fun... oh well.
