  1. How are you rigging nippers? Fed through the underside along the whole hook shank or just passing the hook through he tail and leaving them dangling from the hook? I like using nippers but find it incredibly frustrating. They get smashed the second they hit the water, and my hookup rate would be less than 10%. I'll go on record to disagree. Whole fish, rubbed down with olive oil, generous salt, then cooked whole over hot charcoals. Eaten off the bone. Love em!!
  2. Love it. Definitely will give it a go!
  3. Good one mate! Have had a Cranka Crab lure for ages, but searching for the ideal spot to use it. Down on the Hawkesbury i find them hard to fish as they're quite light, and the current here is quite deep and fast. Slow roll across flats sounds enticing though. I would imagine it was be an extremely slow roll!

    Fun Trivia

    Yep, that was difficult!
  5. On sandflats, the Diawa Double Clutch is a great lure. Comes in a number of different sizes. Can cast it a mile and is an easy retrieve (slow wind with some pauses and twitches thrown in). Great for flathead and will pick up bream as well.
  6. Where would you be intending to fish? From rocks, wharfs, beach, sandflats?
  7. Great session. Good looking gutter you found there!
  8. This is turning out to be an awesome few days for you!
  9. Great day for it!! Well done, great catch.
  10. I don't think i've heard that one before. Will try it next time - too often with nippers i get baited without a hook-up, no matter how i rig it.
  11. 100% My key principals - never wash with fresh water, salt water wash only (or preferably just wipe down with paper towel), no contact with any surface (even a plate or glad wrap). I've noticed so much difference in taste, texture and how long the fish lasts. Here's a previous post I did on the subject with a few more details. Using the principals above, I've had fish in the fridge for 6 days and it was still perfect. Better than putting it in the freezer.
  12. Great catch for the start of the holidays. Hopefully more good days ahead! Seriously Pickles, whole bream, a couple of slits across the shoulders, rub down with olive oil, and a liberal dose of salt. Grilled whole over charcoals for 10mins each side, then eat straight away. So moist, succulent & tasty.
  13. Quite a nice table medley there
  14. Hi Raiders, I'm wanting to get a beach cart to haul beach and fishing gear to the beach. They seem like such a great idea, but then you see a lot of people just dragging them over the sand, really struggling to pull it. Obviously it all comes down to the type of wheels, but I am looking for feedback from people who have one. Do you have one that goes well over the sand that you'd recommend?
  15. Awesome looking flathead there - nice and fat, great patterns.
  16. At least you were out there! Looks like some good bream there.
  17. Awesome! Great Bass. I go up to singleton quite regularly visiting family and always have interested in giving Lake St Clair a go, but figured it'd be best out of a boat. I might have to take an SP outfit next time and get out there for a fish. Do you mind giving me an indication of where you go shore based fishing around there (I've never been there before so am not familiar with it at all, only what I've seen on googlemaps)
  18. Also consider, if you're shore based, that wind is probably also helping push baitfish into the shore, so you potentially don't need to cast as far anyway.
  19. Permitted and prohibited saltwater fishing methods (nsw.gov.au) Always refer to the DPI source for your info. Information is to be written on the float/buoy, no need for a card, and they're probably only at risk of coming off. There are no details on whether a milk bottle would be considered a float/buoy, would be interesting to hear if anyone has been picked up for using a milk bottle as a float/buoy. Big Corporate Fishing stores sell them (floats) pretty cheap. As far as how to tie line, I wouldn't worry about them coming up straight. You'd be pretty unlucky to have a crab fall out. Just tie the rope to anywhere on the top ring.
  20. And suggested to also soak an unaffected part of the body in the hot water as well otherwise you can end up burning yourself due to the pain of the sting masking pain from any burns.
  21. Here's some comments I made on a previous thread. Have a read. For me, my biggest mistake with SP's was not waiting long enough for them to reach the bottom - it can take a lot longer than you might think!
