  1. Definitely a small Sampson fish. They do put up a good fight, maybe that's why they call them Sampson fish. Regards Jeff
  2. I had the same question so last year so I asked a Fisheries officer and all he could say was "That's a good question" I've tried looking up the rules on several occasions but can not find a definitive answer. Anyone that knows for sure please enlighten the rest of us. If you do know could you also tell us where you found out so we don't start doing the wrong thing just because someone took a guess. Regards Jeff
  3. There has been schools of slimies around south head regularly over the last few weeks so that is where I would start from. Regards Jeff
  4. Good alternative to fixing it. Regards Jeff
  5. Strange they don't have a thermostat! How does the motor warm up to operating temperature with water pumping straight through? I had problems a number of years ago with a Mariner overheating when trolling and it was the thermostat's. There was 2 in my motor? I am running a Mariner on my tinny now and I think their a great motor. Regards Jeff
  6. Not positive but I think it's a moon jellyfish. Regards Jeff
  7. Under pressure water will get in through the smallest of openings. If your only getting a couple of litres water I wouldn't worry to much but if its a couple of gallons then I would definitely set about finding the cause. Regards Jeff
  8. We put in at Tunks a couple of weeks ago and it was a nightmare for parking not to mention the cue up to get the boat back out. Regards Jeff
  9. Hi Sam, lure fishing is a art of it's own. Forget how you fished with bait as it's nothing like it. You have to get your retrieve right for the lure your using and the fish your after. One thing to look at is the way you tie the lure to your line. If you tie it tight up to the ring you will inhibit the swim action of the lure resulting in next to no strikes. Regards Jeff
  10. Good post Qnut. I have fished up there a lot over the years and am not surprised at what is caught. It's a real healthy little waterway. If that was a guessing game then you sure don't have a good idea of how to make it hard to find out where you were talking about! It's nothing like "spot x" I for one will tell any fishó where I caught fish. Just because I caught fish at x location doesn't mean you will catch fish there tomorrow or even a couple of hours later! Regards Jeff
  11. Your right The Rev, they sure are great fun on light gear. I was off South head a couple of weeks ago and we had a skeeter next to us fly fishing for slimies. They pulled about twice as many as we did. If only I could master the fly stick!!!!!!!!!!!! Regards Jeff
  12. Its all sow and pigs with the large area and what they call the finger running off. The best way to fish it is to put a anchor out from the bow close in where your 0.5kn mark is then reverse about 50m and drop a stern anchor. Now pull yourself halfway between the 2 and tie off the ropes. Despite which way the wind blows you will remain in position. Now burly hard and you will get results. If the tide is on the way out just do the opposite side, all ways put your first anchor ( bow )close in at the shallowest part of the reef. Make sure you fish towards the reef as that is where your burly is heading and the fish are waiting. Regards Jeff
  13. Mullet don't seem to worry about all the mud in the river at the moment. Good fish bait but better crab bait. The kids would have loved catching them. Regards Jeff
  14. Before the deluge the water was salty right up to Sackville. There was abundant species of fish all the way through the system although the prawn trailers were having a rough time due to the big tides. Now with all the fresh in the system the fish will head further down the river so the fishing should be good from about Bar point onward to Broken Bay. A long way far a houseboat to go from Lower Portland. Regards Jeff
  15. Sorry to hear that Roberta. I bet the fish will be happy though! Regards Jeff
  16. That's fishing for you. Mangrove creek at spencer is full of rays so not unusual to hook up to them there. Regards Jeff
  17. See Doona I'm not going mad there is a bug in the system. It might be a good idea to get your computer guru to take a look before it develops into a mess! One observation is it only occurred since I have been using my new computer which is running windows 8, I don't know if that has anything to do with it! Regards Jeff
  18. Not so much a downpour but big seas usually get things going. I would say fishing should hot up all up and down the coast once the seas settle a bit. Nothing like a good pounding of the coast line to bring the fish on the bite. Regards Jerff
  19. Hard to tell but is the shell like a cocoon because there is a beetle that drags a cocoon type of home around with it. If you crush one is it a red colour? Regards Jeff
  20. There is hardly a day goes by without someone posting a big lizard catch. Just goes to show that the releasing of these big breeders is all good. Who's tickling Stewie. Regards Jeff
  21. If your not having any luck with other fish their always a good fall back and not bad taste either. Regards Jeff
  22. We were passed by one last Thursday in Broken Bay. I don't know where they were going but you could have skied behind it. Regards Jeff
  23. O. K. has anyone else had a problem with post disappearing. i.e. you reply to a post, comes up saving post, post doesn't come up and it doesn't show in your content either??????????????? Regards Jeff
  24. Don't take her to any barbies where the guy's are likely to talk about fishing ( then again I 'havn't been to one in along time where someone brings up fishing ) you know what is going to happen. Regards Jeff
