  1. Nice fish Andy. Unlike ndbshroom and Plumb I think the jacket is O.K as it shows people that follow the sea eagles can do some things right like catching big flathead and releasing them, just like the Manly players do with the ball. Jeff
  2. That's a nice feed of blackfish Pete, not that I'm a fan of their taste but I know a lot of people enjoy them. The only thing I like about them is that they fight pretty well on light line. Jeff
  3. Hi Billy, depends on what part of Botany bay shore you fish, its a big shore line! If your fishing in dead water put your burly in a burly bag or cage and throw it approx. where you will be casting your line to. If there is any current running (out going tide ) throw small handfuls of burly (use a mix like Shanemills suggested ) and cast into where you see your burly is going. Experiment with different mixes as different fish and waters will fire up on different mix's. Your catch rate will no doubt go up by asking questions and taking advice as no one gets anywhere by fishing the same way each trip and not getting results. Good luck on your next fishing trip. Jeff
  4. That's one hell of a bonito. I've seen them at the markets that big taken in nets but to catch one on line is something again. The 30 to 40cm ones we catch hit and run great so I can only imagine what that one went like. Jeff
  5. The centre consoles are my pick for fishing as you can fight a fish all round the boat. When I had one I found that the women didn't like it much though as they tend to be wet boats. Jeff
  6. That also eases cramps in the legs. Hope your back gets better soon. Jeff
  7. There's not much you can do when the dollar sign is waved in front of politician noses. The environment does not get a second look unless the media or greenpeace etc get involved. The bay has only become a reasonable fishing ground after they got rid of the trawlers and it settled down from all the runway and wharf projects finished. Lets hope this new development does not put the bay backwoods again. Jeff
  8. Testlab, the sand bars are one of the most productive flathead grounds in broken bay and will at times produce monster flathead but generally 1 or 2kg size is the norm. It is a dangerous place if you have not got your wits about you as there have been a lot of boats turned over. Sometimes in the right conditions you can walk out a fair way and fish in water up to your knees flicking into the gullies between the sand flats which we have done on a number of occasions for good results. Again you have to be careful as the sand flats can become quite churned up. Jeff
  9. I must be fishing a different Ettalong to Testlab! In front of the surf club is a great place to fish at daybreak for Tailor, whiting and the odd school jew. Surf boarders are a problem as the sun gets up. If you go to the side where the channel to Brisbane waters enters there is great sand banks that hold good flathead. I never miss getting a feed from those areas. Jeff
  10. Witches hats will out fish crab traps weather it be the rectangle or square ones. They don't have to find there way into a hat to gat tangled. If the rectangle one has it's opening facing into the current then the crab will be trying to get into that side as that's where the smell is coming out. Jeff
  11. Nice bass mate. They are great when they take a surface lure as they seem to hit harder, maybe they think the insect they are gulping will take off if they don't grab it and head back down fast. Jeff
  12. I've seen them chasing bait right up to and along the surface but never busting the surface. Jeff
  13. The underwater scenes where probably the best fish turmoil I have seen. Jeff
  14. I prefer to take my wife and kids to fishing with a mate unless I'm fishing rough water outside. Each to there own. No wonder you caught a good feed, their great looking worms. Jeff
  15. From the seaplanes to Percival park. Jeff
  16. Over near the planes is a good spot. There is a great sand and flat with good weed growth. Just about any fresh fish will get you crabs but in my opinion you can not go past fresh mullet. Jeff
  17. Rock cale or as we know them as rock cockies. They are a bloody nuisance as they school up and hit the bait before a luderick can get a chance. They taste like weed and fight like their stoned on weed! ( useless ) Jeff
  18. They like this type of weather. We seem to catch them more often after we have had bad weather for a while. Jeff
  19. Its not just housing commission areas. My mates van got broken into at Berowra ramp late last year and all his trade tools stolen. They did the same thing as what was done to your mates car, smashed the window to get in. This happened between 6pm and 10pm when there was a fair few boats putting in and pulling out. Jeff
  20. A group of us had a planed trip to Stockton this weekend but due to the weather we have put it on hold. I have been checking reports on various sites and nothing has been happening. Jeff
  21. They do have what they call poisonous spines but are not lethal, however are very painful like all catfish spines. I had one go through my index finger and penetrate my next finger. I was in pain for a couple of hours with the just about unbearable burning in my fingers. The pain subsided to a bearable burning for about 24hrs. Contacted the hospital and they said I should go into emergency to have it checked just in case. I never did but I should have instead of having another beer with, "it will be fine mate attitude" Jeff
  22. Sounds great to me. You may have to find a dirty weather species as I suspect we are in for quite a while of this weather. ( I hope I'm wrong ) Jeff
  23. There's lots of people who are Fishraider members just like Issue, and that's why this group has to be the best I have ever been associated with. Issue Jeff
  24. Nice one mate. The time you spend with them at that age is what makes them what they become in later life. Teach them that the great things in life ( fishing or any sport ) is virtually free and anyone can participate. Jeff
