  1. Definately not a Thresher shark as their upper tail lobe length is between 75 to100% of their body length. The wispy looking dorsal fin has got me stumped. Love to find out which type of grinner it is. Regards Jeff
  2. The whites are a very inquistive shark. One coming up & surveying whats on top of the water is not uncommon. These guys are game, as the littlest disturbance can set one of these eating machine off & you don't want to be anywhere close wheather on a board or in a boat under about 6 meters. I had the burrly bucket ripped off the back of my easy rider in the 70's by one & I couldn't start the motor fast enought to get out of his space. Regards Jeff
  3. Hey Ross, they made millons from oil, & are pushing to close off large areas, whats under reefs? oil isn't it? is that the motive behind them or am I being too sinical? Regards Jeff
  4. Very nice Slinky. I hope it gets the work out it deserves. I'm sure you will see it does. Regards Jeff
  5. Good one THE REV, they may have been on the small side but they are still good scrappers. Regards Jeff
  6. Nice one Bangus, hope you land a lot more over the season. Regards Jeff
  7. Well done Nathan. The naxt time take a portable gas cooker with you, fillet the king,( not cutlets) & cook straight away, don't use any thing to spiece it up only a little oil to stop it sticking & you will be eating one of the finest table fare in the land. Oh, one other thing when filleting the king take the skin off for a better taste and as a bonus you wont have to scale him. Regards Jeff
  8. I'll try one over christmas & let you know. Regards Jeff
  9. Hi Rob, the couple of hours you put in each time will pay off in the years to come. As for the injuries, I bet they pay off too as you will be more carefull now. It's funny how mates want to come fishing & help dirty the boat but don't want to help clean it up at the end of the day! I use a gernie for mine but you have to be carefull around any stickers or painted on names as it tends too blow them off. On a real good day's fishin, where theres blood every where from the catch, I stop at the car wash,as the soap they use seems top clean inside & outside the boat to the max. A added advantage is that you can get the others to help befor they run for home. Regards Jeff
  10. Lets hope that all fishing people remember at the next elections that the labour party are all for creating these marine parks & pandering to the green lobby or who ever else that will vote for them. If every thing goes ahead that is in the pipe line (and its looking like a lot of it will, with people like Clover More & Peter Garret in power) then you might as well give your fishing gear & fishing boats away as it wont be worth anything. I for one love fishing & will not nor have I voted for Rudd the DUD! Somebody start a fishing party, like the shooters party & give us a fighting chance of saving our sport & lifestyle.
  11. If the eddy is caused by a bridge pylon or similar it will make the water very calm in close to the structure & this is where big fish hold waiting for passing food as they don't waste energy fighting the current. It's a safe spot to fish however beware when the current stops running change to the other side of the structure or you will crash into it very quickly. The opposite is the fishing of swirling eddy's, these you fish when they stop, that is the top & bottom of the tide. These can be a little tricky if caught in one fishing out of a small boat & are useless to fish when working anyway,so only fish when stopped. Regards Jeff
  12. Good one Josh,if thats how you do giving your boat a test run then the kings are going to be in trouble! Regards Jeff
  13. You think thats bad try fishing a remote spot beryling for hours and finaly the bite starts. Rods bowing up a great time ahead for all the work you put into starting the bite. Turn around and another boat has creeped in & is anchored close enough for you to have to watch that you don't get caught on their anchor rope. I don't mind other boats but give me a break & at least anchor a couple of boat lengths away. Regards Jeff
  14. I use one to get under feeding tailor with good sucess for kings & salmon & the odd grinner. Prawns, squid, strip bait etc all work of down riggers. Regards Jeff
  15. Looks like a ep to me to. Good looking healty fish. Regards Jeff
  16. You'll find in the river it's easy to locate as the rubbish will be going around untill the tide turns & it starts to float out of the whirlpool. I've found that while it is swirling the fish stay away, however when it stops fish come in as they must get whatever was swirled up. Their caused by a stucture in the water that the current hits & comes back on itself. This may not be visable as it may be something under the water. Regards Jeff
  17. I've fished a couple of times out of tri/hulls & their a great fishing platform. You'll probably find that she is a little thirsty being fibreglass with the older merc, but you got it for fishing not cruising. Good luck when you try her out, I hope she comes back a lot lower in the water from the wait of your catch. Regards Jeff
  18. We were going to put the tinny in this morning & chase crabs around spencer & milton island. When no 1 son turned up at 3am the rain started & hasn't let up yet. We sure need it but did it have to be today, the first day for 3weeks we have had a chance to get out together & get some muddies & blue swimmers. Looks like we will have to try again next week as it looks ok on the weather front at this stage. Regards Jeff
  19. Was that stainless 3/0 hook in the gut silver? If it was then thats my fish as I lost a hook there lastweek. Well done on landing him on a keeper hook. Regards Jeff
  20. Lets hope the dropkick connects it up the wrong way blows all electrics on their whatever. Regards Jeff
  21. I agree with the others about 1.5m or the rod length. Regards Jeff
  22. That's the best one I've ever seen. Regards Jeff
  23. Nice flatties, the other boat probably seen how professional you looked & decided that if you were fishing there then that was were the fish were. You sure showed them. Regards Jeff
