  1. Hey Clem, don't feel bad, we fished 4hours last thursday for 4 blue swimmer crabs & 1x 43cm flathead with a millon throwbacks. Putting in tomorrow at 4am to fish the harbour with anticipation that we will do better. Heres hoping. Regards Jeff
  2. I would say it's not only the jewie that got hooked. Well done for your first jew Regards Jeff
  3. Hi Harry. Depends on what the bass are feeding on when your there, try asking a local, & then use a lure that resembles that. Best gear is a 1.5 -2.2m light tipped casting rod matched with a light thread line or bait caster reel spooled with 2-5k line. During the day if bright use deep diving plugs as the bass stay deep during this time. The most productive times are early morning & late afternoon & into the night. When a storm is approching is great. Jitterbugs, crazy crawlers & tiny torpedos all account for many bass. If you can find some bardi grubs along the bank then these are just about the best bait you can use. Find a fallen tree, under cut bank, rock outcrop or a weed bed & you will find bass. Have fun as they are a real adrenalin rush on light gear. Regards Jeff
  4. Better than watching the rain. My will love the crosswords. Is any one getting a sreen saver, spam popping up after being on the site or is it only me? Regards Jeff
  5. The harbour sure is firing up as late, great reports for land based & boats & all species seem to be getting caught. Can't wait to hit the water sometime this week. Regards Jeff
  6. Not only Lake Macquarie. We put 6 traps behind Milson Island on christmas eve for 2 just legal crabs. Then moved to bar point & set the 6 traps again for another 2 although a little bit bigger. The only saver was a 45cm flatty caught while waiting for crabs. Now the rain has started in earnest I expect that the crabs will be even more scarse. Regards Jeff
  7. Hi Marcel, your right theres always next time. We all have our dud times. The big strike is only a matter of time. Regards Jeff

  15. Nice looking bream there mate. The quarantine area sure produces some nice fish. I caught a 78centimeter flatty there a couple of months ago on kentucky fried chicken. We also got a couple of nice bream & a Good king, but the flatty was the only one that could stomack the American crap other than my two boys. Regards Jeff
  16. Lucky it wasn't a bull shark or it would have done a lot more damage, even the small ones are one mean shark. Regards Jeff
  17. Any nuclear plant near Kiama? Regards Jeff
  18. What to do on Christmas Day? Take the grandchildren fishing and teach them how to bass and perch fish. The weather wasn't the best but this was good as we were going to fish mid afternoon and if it was too bright the fish wouldn't come on the bite especially as we wanted them to fight in the open so the little ones could see the hit and learn how to guide the fish to the fishing platform without worrying about structures at this stage in their fishing tuition. A couple of tentative casts to teach them how to retrieve the lure and induce a strike. After 20 minutes it was on, the little bloke 'Zane' 3 years old had a small bass follow and take his lure, he had a great time winding the fish in even though it was a small one. They still fight well on light gear and to Zane it wasn't small being his first bass. Zane caught 2 both around the same size in about 35 minutes. Now it was his older sisters turn 'Jordan' 4 years old not really keen on fishing but after watching Zane wasn't about to let her little brother take the limelight. A few tests casts and she was feeling confident she could catch 1 or 2 as well. It wasn't long and she was on, a good strike as the perch jumped clear of the water after taking the lure and was quickly brought in. Jordan wasn't taking any chances as she cranked the perch in at the rate of knots taking no notice of her dad 'Heath' instructing her to slow down and enjoy the fight. Now it was my son 'Heath's' turn to show his little ones how it is done. After about 20 casts and no strikes we started to needle him about Zane and Jordan being better than him. Then all of a sudden there was a swirl behind his lure, letting the lure drop back a bit and then bringing it in on a different retrieve produced nothing. He cast again towards the same submerged structure and just as the lure hit the water it was taken. The rod bowed down the line started peeling off, quickly he stopped the run before it could reach any snag. The fish put up a great fight dancing and splashing all the way into the bank. A fine healthy silver perch. After a couple of pictures she was put back to fight another day. Maybe Zane and Jordan will catch one like this soon. Regards, Jeff
  19. Top read slinky, a little bit of humor is what we all need on a dismal rainy day. Have a good one mate. Regards Jeff
  20. Hi Roberta, that link sure looks bad on the weather front, we need the rain but not all at once & not over the christmas break as it's the only time a lot folk get to be full time with their families. All the best for the new year & look forward to reading more of your fishing adventures on your yak. Regards Jeff
  21. Hi Leo i'm with you. I posted on this a couple of day's ago. The fisheries are scarred of these crap people. If they can't do their job then get the hell out & let someone else do it. They have the right to call the police in if their worried to enforce the rules. Start giving them big fines & maybe they will start doing the right thing. But I don't think so. Regards Jeff
  22. That will be one he'll remember. Very nice bream in anyones book. Regards Jeff
  23. Nice lizards Rob. She sure looked good swimming away. It must be good to catch a great fish like her on a yak. Merry Christmas Regards Jeff
  24. I think its funny how theres signs saying don't eat fish from here, but its alright a kilometer or so down the river! Is there a fence around that section stopping the fish from moving out? If the fish look good & healthy then I'd eat them. We fished Bondi murk for years before the outfall went in & none of us got sick. The same thing was said then, don't eat the fish from there, their contaminated. Most of the fish caught there were kingfish, tailor etc all which travel up & down the coast Regards Jeff
  25. If you see fish there, then your in the right spot. The reason you didn't get a hit is the lure you were using. You have to present something that the kings normally eat. Regards Jeff
