  1. Most likely a ray, not much you can do except lock the drag up & with a bit of luck he will turn & head towards you. If he heads out then theres virtually no way of stopping a ray. Then again do you really want to catch one, their not a good fighting fish, they don't taste any good & a big one is down right dangerous to land, whether in a boat or on the beach. Have a good Christmas Regards Jeff
  2. Thats the way Nathan, you can always learn something from another fisho. When you think you know it all thats what you are a know it all. I've been fishing for about 50years & still learning, the fish get smarter every year. Theres always someone that has a trick to catching a certain species that unless they show you, you'll always be the one standing on the ramp watching the others cleaning their catch, instead of the vice the versa. Keep fishing with people like Pete & it won't be long before you will be taking a beginner & showing them what you know. Keep up the great post mate & have a good one. Regards Jeff
  3. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you all get to fish over the break & I look forward to reading some good reports in the coming couple of weeks. Don't forget to take your camera as a couple of pic's really gives some weight to the tale. Pardon the pun! Regards Jeff

Happy Birthday Mate, I hope you have a great day. Regards Jeff
  5. Good to hear you didn't get a fine Jim. I'd like to see some of the inspectors go to some of the piers up along the north coast & do their job. The amount of undersize fish been taken is unbeliveable & where's the fisheries officers? One old fisho told me last time I was up there that they don't do anything because their scared of been set on by all the collective, obviously I'm not talking about family groups, or typical fisho's. Regards Jeff
  6. Hi Groper, eating raw fish can cause small worms to end up in your stomack which will cause considerable pain, but the good news is your stomack acids will get rid of them in a couple of days. The bad news (there is always a down side) if the larvae finds its way into your intestines, then your in trouble, because they then have to be removed manually by the insertion of a tube. Cooking or freezing fish kills these worms, so guess how I eat fish? Regards Jeff
  7. The old bull sharks are everywhere. They are the only shark that can live for a long time in fresh water and it doesn't have to be deep or clean. With the lack of rain the tidal rivers are getting saltier further up attracting more fish further inland which in turn attract the sharks. The bull shark goes that little bit further & in my opion is the worst man eater in our waters even worse than the great white as the bull is found where people paddle with kids & it will strike whether its hungry or not as they are extremely territorial & will kill anything that comes into its space. Regards Jeff
  8. Hey Ant, you don't need a fishing lic. to fish tidal waters in QLD but some of the councils require you to pay them to fish in the dams under their controll. Stick to the tidal waters its better fishing anyway. Regards Jeff
  9. You forgot to upload the pic's. Edit your post & try again. Regards Jeff
  10. Could have been a small ray, as sometimes they will hop from one place to another especially if there is not much hurt coming from the hook up. Regards Jeff
  11. If thats what you catch when you go squiding I'd like to hear what you catch when your seriously fishing. Regards Jeff
  12. Top one Nathan, at this rate you might as well leave your pb's empty as you just seem to be firing so well you'll get sick of having to upgrade them each outing. Reagrds Jeff
  13. I'll be launching from roseville over the break so no walking without footware for me as I nearly always get cut somewhere on a fishing trip Regards Jeff
  14. The kayak looks good, neat and tidy and uncluttered ready for a good fight. I've had a lot of luck with the cicades in the Colo and find them one of the best lures to attract a bass's attention. As for the line twist, are you using a swivel? if so , did you check that it did swivel easily? Is the swivel the right size for the line and lure your using? The line should be approx. the same diameter as the wire used in the making of the swivel! Was there any fine weed etc in the water that may have caught the lure making its movement erratic which in turn stops the swivel working causing line twist again. Was the knot tied off properly as a tag can cause the lure to send twist up the line. There is a multitude of reasons for line twist but mostly there caused by not matching the troll speed, line size and lure. Regards Jeff

All the best for today Josh Now you can only catch 18kg fish & above. Regards Jeff
  16. G'day Tom. If your trolling you can't go past the ever faithfull christmass trees, either for kings or any other fighting fish. I've had success with blue coloured ribbonfish lures if the kings are on the boil as the action of these lures make them strike no matter what their attacking & easier then trying to match the bait school. Hope you get into them & have fun. Regards Jeff
  17. Would've been a good session as they seem to fight better when using bread. You would have to release them though as isn't the Parra still badly pouluted with heavy metals? Regards Jeff
  18. That's a nice haul of fish, will will sure fill up your freezer. I feel sorry for the ones with the whittley as this could happen to any of us if we depend on the poor old strained winch cable/strap instead of taking a extra couple of seconds to put on the safty chain, to which I have been a party too. I'll make sure I put it on from now on. Regards Jeff
  19. Great looking king Jeff. What a great time you had fighting him & then the icing on the cake for your mate to tail him & become a part of the whole episode was fantastic! Well done to both of you. Regards Jeff
  20. Great post Steve, pity the speed jockey's don't have the same respect for others like you showed for the rock hopper. We have the same problem on the upper Hawkesbury with them. One day one will pick up a lure around their leg as I have have lost a couple from them running over them & sonner or later a tripple will embed itself. Regards Jeff
  21. That would explain the tatty fin! Regards Jeff
  22. Another great post to read Roberta. You really have fun & have great fishing buddies. Look forward to reading about your next outing. Regards Jeff
  23. Agree with you completely, Billfisher Regards Jeff
  24. I agree with you Gary, it"s not if, it's when & he may not stop at one as when he enters a feeding frennzy he wiil bite anything & every thing in his way whether a boat,a yak or a person Regards Jeff
