  1. geoff wilson, book of knots -basic fishing. Ive learnt how to tie most of my knots from this book. But im sure google would cover what you need also.
  2. I spent some time in japan last yr which i visited a few tackles stores. Like everyone said the reels are jus abit cheaper then over here due to the strong yen. So make a list for lures, jigs and nick nacks is your best option. Yen was 77 when i went but its floating around 82 which is a improvement!

Great post as ive got my 2cents to add to this topic also. Took the boat to the hawkesbury for the nye break and on the way home on sunday (2/1/11 6pm)drivin on lane cove rd the car next to me beeps his horn to get my attenion to let me know ive got a flat tyre on my trailer . I pulled over asap to find my side walls completely blown out . Had the boat/trailer brand new since 2004 with good tread still on it but however did notice abit of cracking on the sidewalls a few months ago and didnt realise it would let go so fast. Lucky i didnt go JB for the break as im pretty sure it would of blown on the freeway. Thankfully my mate (dangas) came to the rescue and brought me a tyre to get me home or it would of been very expensive tow home considering it was on sunday and a public holiday!!1 Fitted some light truck tyres for $70 each and problem fixed for hopefully another 5ish yrs. so yeah check or your best bet is to CHANGE ur tyres but it goes POP at 110kph!
  4. Done this a few yrs ago cause was fed up fixing the lights nearly everytime it hit the water. One of the best mods you can do for ur trailer welcome to worry free club
  5. Had a bbq today at the entrance of the lake and i saw few guys pulling up whitting... not all big tho. I tried Sp and hardbodys for a ZERO! We fished the end of the run in and the start of the run out and definetly started to bite on the run out.
  6. Thanks for the advice prawn.
  7. awsome pics mate!@! love the bend in that rod merrry xmas!
  8. thanks guys for your input will be surely puttin them in to practise when im up there and do some sort of a report IF i catch anything decent! I jus brought plano container to hold all the scent from the glups so i chucked all my old grubs and power bait to soak in the glups . Good or bad idea??? How about the wriggles?? keep them seperate?? also have some poppers ive brought at the counter at the tackle store awhile back...it was cheap Are these considered whitting poppers??
  9. The house is at cottage point. Bream, flatties will be the main target. Takin the boat up so I be roamin the whole area.
  10. Great advice guys Ive recently notice the side walls on my tyres are cracking abit which i owned the boat for 6yrs now and i think its time to change them as i dont want them to pop on the hwy.
  11. Hey lads, Heading away for nye break and havin the mighty hawkesbury as my backyard what else would one do This gives me a perfect chance to try and break my drought in SP's and using vibes. I can say im no expert in SP and would love to get some of your input of brand/colour/size and shape to futher my chances in landin some fish. Heres the collection of what ive had used in the past which i havent caught much fish in (apart from a few small flatties) and brought some glups tonight to try something different. Brought a hand full of blades too which is goin to be my first attemp also What do you guys think?? Should i be adding anything else to up my chances ? TIA
  12. Yep i brought it off the local store which i always buy my stuff from and i wouldnt see it a problem sending it back to daiwa. I was jus curious if it needed to break it in. I did call up daiwa today just to suss things out and explain the story and the bloke quicky said it most probably has salt in the bearing pretty much tryin to put the blame on to the user or it could have a ceased bearing . Only been out twice which the reel got barely wet and got a good rinse after each use like all my gear! I dont think i can ask for another one as i put a scratch the reel already. I might have to move my love to shimano if daiwa dont sort this out for me
  13. Brothers freind brought a dud boat of e-b,a.y. They had to rebuild the whole thing due to a melted piston and it costed them 4k -/+ and he did the larbour him self. Mercery 115 2stroke 1988 model. Very coslty
  14. Hi raiders, How long does it take for a reel to break it?? I brought a catalina 4500H for my light wait jig outfit which i can sadly say hasnt caught me a king as of yet . I was at the local tackle store playin with some reels on the shelf and realise that my reel felt really tight compare to the others daiwa reels. I took the reel back to get there opinion and they guys said it did feel tighter then normal but he reckons if you use it and over time it will loosen up. So with hrs of spining by hand which was getting to much on my hands i decieded to connect my drill to the reel todo the hard work. A few dead batteries later the reel still feels tight . Your thoughts and opinions pls.
  15. Very nice boat indeed mate. Would a electric motor move that baby??? she looks mighty heavy
  16. Yikes i jus realise that i have the heavy spin rod. Even still it cast lovely from 1.8g squid jigs to 5g slugs and above. I cant agree for value as i got my for $300 yrs ago
  17. http://www.sakana.com.au/zion.html Is this the brand your talkin about? I have the 8 to 16lb spin medium.
  18. I have a zion rod im not sure if its the one your talkin about but if it is, its a great rod. Use it from squiding, surface fish to jus normal bait fishing. WHen i brought it a few yrs ago our mate jack (wacko) who sold it ot me said it was a korean made blank with the sic guides etc. I never leave home with out this rod.
  19. JB is my favourite place to fish and stories like yours comfirms it ever more. I tryin to organise a trip with my mates down there soon for a 2 day session . Where you chasin the big hoodlums with the live squid??
  20. Trust me that bat aint goin anywhere near me....scary little critters they are...
  21. Try trolling along thr heads with some minnows, skirts and slugs ur bound to catch tailors, salmon, bonnies and the odd king. Also always get ur crew and ur self to keep there eyes on the water and for birds which could lead u to a school of fish on the surface. Havin a variety of gear ready for the different styles of fishing on the boat could help alot. Eg. Bait jig rod, squid rod, live bait rod, trolling rod. Saves alot of time settin them up when they pop out of no where. At the end of the day u gota target a certin species with abit of reading and research on the www u can't be to far away from landing them. I've had my boat for 5 yrs but the first 2 yrs had very long hrs and days of comin home empty. Now days I have at least 2 fish . My 2cents
  22. Hmm I've always thought the rock cd I caught was called the poor mans lobster which is more red/blackish colour. I'll wait and see ur fish.
  23. I've caught them cods b4. Is it red in colour??
