  1. I use 50 to 80lb braid with 100lb mono which i use the PR knot. Cant go wrong with it.
  2. Gday Greg, Thanks for that input it will surely be put into use when i head out again. Been out a few times and startin to learn and try alot of things i read off the forums and pakula site. Also tryin to get my crew to read up on the same info as its to much for one person to control the boat spot the signs and catch fish. I seem to be only catching stripey's when i go out other then that its seems pretty quite for me . I can say bye bye to my 2 big skirts ( red/white and black/green) due to a cracked guide in a rod i was using . So im on the market for more skirts now! and gezz they cost so much and on top of that petrol (not costly as your boat) gets bloody expensive. But i need to a fix for my addiction Gday rowan, Thanks again for the link which is a ripper of a site. So much to learn and to understand everything but i guess when i do hook up a beast it will be all worth it! Cheers for the lure choice.... Im goin to google and get some imagines now. Thanks all, LH
  3. Great haul of squid and kings man.. Looks like the rat kings are slowly growing over legal size these days . Btw what colour did the best for the squid??
  4. Sounds bloody awsome to have a shark so far in as chippo Oh and catchin bass and jews so close to my home is cool also
  5. I had a over heating problem once due to the impeller blades breaking off and worked it self into the motor and blocking the water ports. Took it to the mechanics nurmerous times for them to tell me it didnt have a problem so took it in my own hands and started to pull off the cooling jacket off and low and behold i found half of my impellor inside my motor. My 2cents
  6. I can say ive been out twice to the fad and wide fad in a week for zero mahi mahi but did mannage to land a few stripey's.
  7. always room for a paying customer jam-x
  8. hey guys, Im pretty new to the deep water fishing so im in need of some advice to get me on my first big tuna/mahi or dare i say marlin. I tend to fish more coast/inshore but im starting to get out abit wider in search of bigger fish. My tackle ranges from 2 saltish 50H with 400mtr 60lb braid and 2 tekota 500 with 300mtr 30lb. with a a coulpe jiggin out fit for those kings i dearly love. On Australia day i took my boat ( 5.3 half cab with 100hp with NO out riggers) to the deepest widest ive been . We had a plan setted out. Botany bay Fad's - Fad's wide - 12mile reef - The peak- Home. The fads had no signs of life what so ever and 12mile showed up pretty bear on my sounder but the peak showed abit of activity and only mannage a deccent bonnie of the jig. So after a day worth of trolling we landed 3 stripey biggest went for 5kg and a bonnie off the jig. I have a little range of lures but TBH dont know whats colour attracks what. Out of the range i have here which 4 lures could possibly yield me some sort of fat tuna or mahi etc??? The lures ive only used and had running in my spread that day was The ballyhoo, black magic african worrior 4oz, bahama lumo green 7" Red and white feather lure. The ballyhoo caught the biggest stripey and the red and white got the most attenion and stripey that day no other species. I was trolling around 8 to 10knots but from what ive read ppl like to do it at 6.5 to 8 knots??? Also when you troll out wide do you jus go out say east and head back in west or would troll north to south or what ever?? Some enlightening would be handy. So excited i went out to buy a zuker dark purlpe lure as ive been told thats a hit for for mahi and tuna and was showed a pic of a mahi mahi at 14kg caught last week around the same area i was in . I can say it was a horse and would love to boat something like that Any opinions and advice would be greatly apreciated
  9. Interesting about shimano beein so generous....Im sure slinky would have other thoughts about them
  10. I dont see why not mate. Ive converted a halco 70g twisty, putting a assit hook for swallow water jigging. I saw it from a fishing mag so i thought i give it a shot. Havent had a chance to test it on the water yet but from what i saw it was his favorite lure.
  11. Any one uses the Penn rod and reel cleaner?? I use it on my gear once in a while, spray and wipe off which leaves a shinny protective coat.

    Help

when using bait jigs, cut them in half which should hold 3 hooks each. No tangle and more cost effective.
  13. what a great topic... i can add to this as ive got the same problem..... 30k for the boat with at least 5k spent on extra's. $1000 on eagle FF which blew up after 2 yrs $2000 on furuno combo... which was worth every penny 55k for my new hilux Saltiga 6500 DF with nitro widow maker $1500 Gamagakstu jig rod and daiwa catalina 4500 $1000 Tournment Z rod with exist $1000 Zion rod with Daiwa TDR 3012 $600 Nitro viper with penn applause 8000 $500 (wanna buy a certate custom 4000 one day) 2* shimano tekota o/h $500 2* saltist 50 o/h $600 2* rapala jig rods $450 Nitro extreme gulf $400 At least 8 ugly stick rods ( brought at the start of the addiction) $120 each A few Pfluger trion rod $450 A couple of shimino sedona $300 Alot of squid jigs and skirts, hard bodies, bibless, SP and a hell of alot of braid over the yrs.....etc etc I can say i pretty much spend a pretty penny on my hobby. Theres no one to stop me spending as my GF loves the sport too
  14. Mate i reckon the TRD can smoke the rear wheels even with a boat on it they got some seriously grunt. Ive got a hilux TD and tows my 5.3 half cabin fully loaded with gear and she does alright. Its not about how much power it makes it about when it makes the torque which starts at 1500rpm to 3500rpm! She has a moduel in it now which makes towing a breeze I always stick with the major petrol station to fill up and always get the receipt for 2 reason... tax and proof that you fill the tank. Ive read that if you can prove that the diesel you pour in your car which comtaminated your fuel system, they are liable for the repair bill if you have proof. hence the receipt.
  15. dont worry about bringing frozen bait to JB mate.... its so penltiful down there. Jus do your research and bait grounds. Im planin a trip down there also b4 my annual national park pass expries. But not keen to do a a day trip has to be a 2 night sleep over. The drive back from a day trip must be a rough ride home???
  16. Back yrs ago when i first got my exist reel i had a little bream pulled my reel into the georges rivers which i had to dive into the pitch dark water and some how (thanks god) i manage to grab the end section of the butt with the fish still on it . The Reel was probably in the water for about 15ish seconds.... Straight away flushed with the fresh water i had on the boat and sent it away to daiwa to have a look at. They ended up changing the whole internals ( free of charge ) but since then the reel never felt the same and has been back to daiwa twice and currently has issues with a crunchy noise it made the other day. So im in the middle of pulling it apart and havin a go my self. I hope your reel doesnt have problems like mine after the dump. cheers.
  17. Awsome read..... im really gettin into servicing my own reels atm and this really helps alot....
  18. You can go pass a common rail T/D these days... great on fuel when not towing but has enough pull when you are. Not sure about the used cars markets these days but shop around to suit your needs.
  19. nice catch mate.... i do 12 hrs session on average and have only been landing rats...so landing a legal one makes it more worth while
  20. bad timming or jus stupid???
  21. yeah up and down, windy or rainy but few days in between which have been great... great enough to get sun burn on your nose and lips... But the harbour and botany bay have pently of action thats for sure.
