  1. very nice catch. is that similar to slimy mackeral? looks pretty similar. Anyway jeeze what a big eater! the lures are bigger than its head!
  2. awesome dude.. you know what that salmon you caught looks totally different from the ones you catch down south (merimbula). I should check out Kurnell. I've never fished there, is there any rock fishing platform?
  3. sorry if this a bit late. If your going to Merimbula goto HAYCOCK beach its in palmbula. Top stop. you can fish using the beach setup or what i did when i was there, got myself cheapo polarised sunny, looked at the waves and you will be able to see some dark patches! thats the fish! cast a metal lure and do you bits and bam! you will be on to something special. Regarding seagulls well they swam around and dive into the waves to catch the fish.. from our vantage point you will know by seagulls going crazy all together!~
  4. i went to avoca last saturday and the sea was pretty rough... So i ended up site seeing rather than to fish. Call me coward but its not fun if your constantly worried out the BIG WAVES. PS I saw many fishos leaving when the sea was getting rougher.. I guess people are starting to learn.
  5. it was a metal 70gram green in colour that i bought from down south.
  6. i was at AKUNA BAY few months ago and it was sunday 6pm!! they came and busted bunch of people for keeping small fish... One thing i didn't like was when I saw them make a little kid cry as they release a small fish that kid caught (yes it was undersized but it was his first fish so he wanted to keep it). Their parents were throwing back all the small fish and seems to me was there to have some fun... Kid didn;t get any fine.
  7. yup no need for a stingray infact one of the reason i came home around 5pm (when actually fishing was just starting!! as i could see about 50-100 seagulls were working on the area I left!) due to my left arm having no juice left!! 10- good sized fish is one hell of a workout! salmons have problems where their flesh seems to break. the best way to stop this from happening try this. as soon as you catch it, bleed it then put it in an icebox filled with ice. that should keep the fish really firm and tasty... fishy taste... well not really sure if i had this problem. PS. I think there are many different salmons in australia. Ones I have caught down south in Merimbula have different flesh and slightly different looking fish (and tasted better). Ones i caught today from sydney are darker with flesh not as good. (though i didn't get any ice cause I didn't think i'd catch any fish!) PPS. i don't really eat this fish. I don't like the scales on the fish, it freaks me out I catch it for fun and keep few for my dad who likes to sashimi and deepfry them.
  8. Well i headed off to Walebeach for the 2pm HIGHTIDE. got there around 1pm with waves crashing too heavily... so decided to coward out from there and headed back to the good old palm beach. Starting fishing for an hour but nothing... was just about to go home (3pm) and was retreiving my lines when all of a sudden big BANG. 2 minutes later I saw a massive salmon.. I measured it today it was from the tip of my finger to my arm pit. (68cm) 3.2kg (GUTTED) so probably around 3.5kg. so then i rememberd what an old man once told me... "check the segulls" "check the wave action" I looked around and towards the left of me 20-30 seagulls where going crazy... so i got my trusty lure out and changed the outfit and from than on i pulled in 2 other salmon slightly smaller 55-60cm and 8 tailors. finished fishing around 5pm cause my arm was hurting!!! I think i might be to sick to work tomorrow
  9. hey dude i use to fish the nepean river while i was studying at the uni. just before sundown you will catch some decent bass if you use worms they fight like hell. also if you goto the boat ramp again an hour or so before sun down and burly with bread and you will see those 50cm mullets in 10000s!!!! my mate and I caught about 50 in an hour some even a double hooker awesome fun though as people say the waters bit polluted so it was all catch and release for us... ps many people do catch them and eat them so i guess its ok (i won't as theres more parasites in freshwater)
  10. thanks for the offer captain i will definately hold you to that offer heading out to wale beach tomorrow morning, hoping to break the 3 week drought... after some bonnies and kingy even salmons will do
  11. speculations guys, i have caught couple of them before and they are pretty good fighters... i am not after those 300kg monsters!! hell no... that will make my worst nightmare come true where i can pull into the water by a big fish!!! i just want a decent doormat size ones 5-10kg model that will give me a decent challenge. coming back from the south coast where every second cast was a monster salmon, sydney really sucks! Last 3 outing and only 1 tiny chopper my fairly new gears are crying for some good fight.
  12. I haven't caught a fish for a while and I am bored so would like to go for a stringray bashing They put up a good fight and would like to test my rod on it so if anyone know a good place to hook up a decent sized stingrays please let me know. Thanks in advance
  13. you cannot get busted for having undersized fish. Why? well you can always say these fish died when you took it out of the water and so instead of throwing it back, you were planning to use it as a bait? Secondly you can say it swollowed the hook which is proven to kill the fish so once again you kept it so that you can retreive your tackle and also to use it as a bait. Generally when I see people take really small fish I keep stareing at them... and hopefully they will feel guilty. Just remember their might be psychos out there so don't confront them... they might push you in the water!
  14. trust me when you see the size of the school that came in you can brickwall and it will chase i was first using my trusty 12footer, then changed to smaller 8footer graphite rod and man i had some fun, pulling salmon after salmon.. oh just incase i didn't tell you, there were some of the biggest salmons i have seem probably around 4-5kg mark, most of them either had eggs or white stuff that came out Haycock go towards the left hand side and fish from there... from my experience, these schools travel up and down the beach so you get a bite every 15-20minutes where every single rods go off at once, then nothing for another 15 minutes or so
  15. strange. I was there during the christmas period for a week. Went to Haycock/tathra beach around 7-9am and I was pulling in huge salmons with pillies and later on with 70 gram lures when the school was going around. Particularly the morning you could see the whole 2-300 metre radius go black with school of salmon! Haycock was very productive towards the left hand side of the beach from 12pm on wards till 7pm or so...
  16. you gotta take me next time you go i have been to whaley few times but not sure where to fish from.
  17. this hasn't worked for me. I guess its still too early in the season. I also haven't tried morning fishing so...
  18. thanks dude but thats ones a power tip.. i want to buy the crystal blue tip i gave up and ended up with a surf spinning rod http://www.freetime.com.au/home/silstar/pr...raphcast%20surf a nice 12 footer.. very light and quite strong I am pretty happy
  19. which beach was this that produce crabs? blue swimmers? i would love to catch some of them
  20. Thanks for the info, I have a rough idea where you are pointing to. I tried fishing off the southern end (where the rock pool is) and catch couple of salmon and stuff. 4-6years back i saw bunch of guys spinning and catching heaps of bonitos from this spot. Do you have to wear the metal spikes for this place you mentioned? do the swell actually come up?? Anyway i would love to have a crack at this place. Would prefer if you can guide me I just bought myself a 12foot spin rod/reel and so I am dying to give it a go!!! PS How often do you fish there? I live in blacktown so I get to go there about 2-3 times a months... This coming holiday I am planning to go every 3rd day
  21. Hi Guys/Gals I have orangised a fishing holiday for a week purely fishing so we are heading towards Tathra/Merimbula. I would like to ask the local or those who have recently been, if any slimies are around? Also hows general fishing? I love to have two or three slimies on a light gear heaps of fun as they fish pretty good. Anyway if anyone know anything please let me know. Thanks in Advance.
  22. awesome mate, where about did you fish? north or south end? I tried fishing from Waley before but seems to be bit dangerous sometimes...
  23. I have been looking for this rod for ages and would like to know if any Fishnet readers know where I can buy one of this beauty. I checked many stores in sydney but they don't have one From what I read, this rod is every bit strong as other similar length rod but much lighter and flexible I mainly catch tailors/salmon off the rocks and occassional kingy. If anyone has one of these rods and would like to give me a little bit of personal review that would really help me as well. Currently all my mates are saying I should buy an Ugly rod, same lenght and strength class but it seems alot more sturdier and thicker...

    Carp....

oh did i forget to tell that carps don't feed at night?? They eat during the hot sunny afternoon who needs carp when you have good company and some freaky looking eel
  25. aussie carps are stupid fish they will eat anything.. try catching one in europe or asia!! they are most cunning fish of all... I remember when i was fishing and my small float kinda bobbed up ever so slightly... then my dad goes strike it!!! I did and guess what there it was a large carp... Those bugger nibble the bait and if theres any abnormalities they spit it up... So instead of grab and run they stay there and chew on it abit before either spitting or taking off!
