  1. Always nice bagging a few squid. The freezing cold probably helped you stay awake.

I think I’d be cutting the line pronto.
  3. As a kid 35 ? years ago. Fishing in the bay with my parents tailor seemed to make up the vast majority of our catch. They did seem more plentiful than now especially considering the bay was commercially fished as well.
  4. Great photo and report. 4 squid makes for a yummo feed
  5. I’d be stoked to have a weekend like that. Awesome. If I was there I would of been tempted to try Sandbar beach at Smith Lake as they opened up the lake towards the end of last week.
  6. That sure is a long way for a Bream. Broome has been on my wish list for ages, I’m looking forward to more reports. On second look it looks more like a Tarwhine. Did it have black stomach lining? I just checked it doesn’t look like Tarwhine extend so far north in WA
  7. That’s a very solid squid. Well done.
  8. It’s great to hear the hairtail are about. Plenty of info in your report, a shame you knew kicked an own goal whilst the bite was hot.
  9. Mate I’m not sure of the actual costs but if your wife insists on new how can you argue with that! Most boats are lucky to get used a couple of times a month so don’t worry about that. I wouldn’t skimp on horsepower though and would much rather a second hand motor near the max rating if the boat than a smaller new one.
  10. The higher you can get the aerial the better. For VHF you should do the licence course. If you contact Marine Rescue or look on their website, you could go the 1 day course first and it will give you a better idea of what features you may like. If you think you want the DSC function I’d be checking what’s compatable with your current electronics.
  11. Nope can’t pick it! I was fishing with a mate on our boat when we caught a ray. He had it on the deck removing the hook. It looked like it was cooperating and all of a sudden doubled over and whack it hit him in the back of the hand. It went through an artery so was pumping blood, each squirt going a few metres. Needless to say a trip to hospital shortly followed.
  12. Stingray stings are nasty that’s for sure. I hope he has a speedy recovery and you are out on the flats giving each other a hard time quickly.
  13. Great report Dave and good tips
  14. I haven’t been out for a while so I couldn’t respond. Did you go out? Any success?
  15. If you put the part number off the diagram into eBay the corrrect bearing will pop up. Measure to check.
  16. I have used the Pxxxx branded bearings for the line roller with no issues.
  17. It might be worth throwing a squid jig out if nothing else is doing. Was there any ink stains on the wharf?
  18. Well done. Good to see kings still in the bay.
  19. Awesome fish and write up. I have never seen a yak fisher using an alvey before. Are you using mono?
  20. Gunna need a bigger freezer!
  21. I know the one you mean. I had that and didn’t like it running dry underway. So I used an irrigation fitting with mesh in it as a filter for the pick up, sometimes it clogged up now I have en extra bit of mesh on the outside of the pickup. Three Johnson pumps later including the faulty one that sprayed out of the housing I switched to a rule pump and had no further problems to date.
  22. I started to improve when I decided to dedicate whole trips to catching squid. Don’t get to caught up in colours just get a few jigs in the zone and see what happens. Switch jigs and/or move spots if it isn’t happening.
  23. Depending on the live bait tank pick up you might have to block it off if water pushes through under way. Also maybe it is getting more water than it can handle whilst underway. Id be doing a bit of everything filling up the bilge as Rick suggested. Rigging up the livebait tank to pump at home and watching the tank pump and fittings. Maybe go out and put a little grease or something on the bung washers to make sure they are doing up tight. Check the bung plug housing and fittings are sealed. Whatever it is you are going to have to keep getting out until the esky is full of snapper, just to be sure.
