Port Stephens- The longtail are on!!!

Scratchie

G’day raiders,

Just a quick report from this arvo!

Got out after work with Woodsy to see if we could manage a feed. Filled up with livies!

Plan was to chase longtail for two hours and snapper for two hours.

We won on the tuna but only managed one panny on the snaps! Enough to go around anyway!

And what a cracker it was.....

cheers scratchie!!!

P.s Anyone chasing these bring some solid gear! They pull like freight trains 💪💪💪

That’s a beast of a long tail there scratchie well done, that must’ve been one hell of a good fight did you guys end up chasing it down or did you slug it out, I believe there first run is a screamer, that’s one on my bucket list, what gear we’re you using if you don’t mind me asking & did you get a weight & length. Congrats again

Great stuff, Jeff! Maybe I can get out this week... did you here any reports from the FAD? I’m still hoping to get back out there.

Thanks baz!! There’s still micro dollies everywhere so I assume they’d still be at the fad.

Cheers mate! No, we stood our ground. And your right, the first run is a screamer!

I was using a tyrnos 30w 15kg with 80lb leader. I wouldn’t go anything under an 8000 reel on these bruts.

Estimate: 18-20kg and 1.3m

I remember years ago .... when I was young, that was the go up at Fingal and those other famous ledges, live baiting for them, they caught quite a few and big ones at that, not like the one we get up NW Oz.

Very Very nice. Hopefully I can get out and chase some this year...

Generally only a short window. Probably 3-4 weeks left depending on weather

Very nice fish there Scratchie.

Unfortunately no water here for fishing in Clare Valley, only wine for drinking. 😜

Cheers yowie! Well send me a bottle and I’ll send you a fillet! 😜

They look muscle packed and fast.  Something else to whack on the shopping list and bucket list.

Their first run is sublime! The proper ones definitely take some stopping!

There’s some big ones about! General size for up here is between 8-15kg but this year seems to be like 12-22kg.
