  1. You never know there might be a get together in the near future where you might be able come along to & sample something. Not really fish related but at the PS gathering that basically got rained out I had smokey BBQ pulled pork & slaw rolls with chipotle mayo ready & didn't even get to use it, took it home & ate it on my own. I was also planning on doing some sashimi snapper but you have to catch the snapper for that one
  2. Wow, great indepth vid! Even though both reels don't interest me 😉
  3. Well good luck then. If you haven't looked at this then you should Know your sanctuary zones & other out of limits areas- https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/usingwaterways/maps/boating-maps/9f-botany-bay-lower-georges-cooks.pdf Fisheries/Maritime pretty much have a zero tolerance so saying I didn't know I was in a sanctuary while fishing will still get you a $500 fine!
  4. Hi raiders, haven't been out on the water for some time(pre covid 19) & felt like a bit of a fish dinner tonight so had to dive into the freezer to see what I had from previous catches. Didn't really want to make a big mess or go all out like I usually do so went for a simple fry up. I like my S&P mix to have a bit of zing & flavour so I do a bit of a spice mix which I dry fry or roast & then grind them either in a coffee grinder of in this case the mortar & pestle. My spices mix- Star anise Sichuan peppercorns black peppercorns White peppercorns coriander seeds After grinding I then add sea salt & then mix to taste with 50% tapioca & corn flour I dip the fish/squid into some beaten egg, drain & then roll into the flour mix. Quickly fry in small batches in sunflower oil, the fish took just about 1 & 1/2 minutes & the calamari done separately took about 30 seconds. Just made a simple salad of watercress, coriander, pickled cucumber, capsicum, red onion, toasted sesame seeds, cashew nuts & a sweet soy ginger dressing. And because I don't do plain I did a miso & yuzu mayonnaise as a dipping sauce. First time trying the morwong & it was pretty nice actually.
  5. Your correct, that's the law. Still that does not mean you shouldn't know or understand of the rules of boating http://www.boatingquiz.com.au/index.php/general-boating-knowledge-quiz/ The tugs generally move between Hayes dock through the channel & the Caltex wharf. I presume you are aware of the boating & fishing rules of the bay then?
  6. Hi Blade, so looking at the boat/motor size are you licenced? What model is the tinny? I fish the bay regularly in a 3.95m tinny but with a 25HP motor & while I don't have a heap of experience I know how to handle it & most situations, when & where I need to more cautious. Boat traffic in a boat that size is something to be aware of & the wake they produce, that's regardless of being in the bay or on the Georges. I actually find those massive tankers produce way less wake than the tugs or harbour pilots. Every time those tugs go by they produce about .75mtr + wake & several of them! Once the wind gets up to 15knts + you will more than likely struggle, I would not want to be to far from the ramp in average conditions with 5hp! At the end of the day its about being sensible, always wear a jacket, don't go out if the forecast is average
  7. If you do a forum search you will see some old threads about Cronulla which are more about Wanda & north up to Greenhills area.
  8. Where are you red?

  9. Carp-compress bread onto your hook, unweighted line & cast.
  10. Your asking if they are edible after they are dead & in the esky 🙄🤪🤨🤨
  11. I just wish I had the option of gas! No gas in our building so my electricity bill is pretty high for a single person 1 bdr apartment. Mind you most of that goes to an electrical 50L hot water service. I do like the idea of those Rennai instant systems but I have also used some that the water temp changes quite a bit during the length of a shower. If I had the option solar would be what I would go for IF the financial incentives/rebates were still there to be claimed. Its something more of an investment that is a bit of an outlay at the start but I have known people that are putting power back into the grid & getting credits that come of there electrical bills!!
  12. Don't worry mate I hear you there, it would be great to just walk in point at the wall & say I'll take that & that & that & I wont pay a cent 🙄 Im trying to get all the gear I need atm to get my 12V dual battery & power bank set up for a fridge & all the other things you need to be independent on the road like solar & just the gear to do that nothing to sneeze at! The 70 series is a war horse, a mate of mine has one to tow his 570 freedom cruiser.
  13. When I bought my 25hp Seapro that's how I was shown how to shut my motor down by the dealer.
  14. G'day paulbla, triton14 here, so maybe you could give us a bit more specifics like are you looking at something that is light enough to not need to be trailer braked or that's not an issue?? Dual axle's, they sound like they are a benefit of road from what I have seen/read. Whats you 4x4's capability's, do you have a winch etc? I mean if you have ever watched All for Adventure & seen some of the tracks those guys take their 7.2 Sea jay you'll see you can take a larger boat way off the beaten track, but you have the have the vehicle & recovery gear to do it. Plus another vehicle is essential in what they do of course but just saying you can go bigger than what you would think. Also is there a budget in mind for this? Looking at new vs second hand?
  15. Get yourself a kayak net like this Berkley one- Small(size of a tennis racquet just shorter) , light, clip the end to a small loop of rope on your belt
  16. The biggest tip I can give you is to start reading up, if you want to learn about fishing its something your not going to doin a week, its something that takes years to build up your knowledge & skills One of the things I wish I learn earlier was to be more specific in what I wanted to target species wise, then understand their usual habitats, the baits/lures they go for & how to set rigs for them. There are some rigs that are sort of universal like a paternoster rig, you can catch a quite a few species this way, but for example you only really use it in deeper water say 7mtres + Some fish like to feel no weight or tension on the line at all so for those types you fish its best not to use a sinker & open the bail arm & feed line out by hand & if the fish takes it then let it run for say 3-5mtrs. Anyway its an endless book & you keep on learning, have a look around for some books like this, it will talk about rigs, species etc. Good luck.
