  1. !!!!! Fish please ! .... where are you fishing for bacon? bahahahaha Cheers Z
  2. Well Maria and I are pescatarian ... seafood and plant based foods - and we do not buy any seafood from commercial operators .... so I guess we tick all the boxes ... its food on the table and a hunter gatherer thing and a sport that we both enjoy ! ...and I still have my handspear ... but the days of swimming 50m underwater in one breath are sadly long gone 😞 Cheers Zoran
  3. Could't agree more Sam ... I may be a bit weird but I also enjoy all the ancillary stuff associated with boating/fishing. ie. getting the boat and gear ready, even the wash down and the maintenance.... and then if it all comes together - the seafood prep, cooking and EATING! I was just telling Maria this yesterday - just love the whole lot - planning, preparation, execution ... I find myself immersed in the whole end to end experience. Cheers Zoran
  4. Very happy how it turned out. I like some firmness and texture. The tough chewy gristle like texture was definitely removed Which is what I hoped for. cheers and thanks Zoran
  5. Yup... too true. We definitely run the risk of virus/disease contamination with the types of imports you describe. That is slightly different to the "evolution" that would need to happen for a carp to exist in salt. The carp were also imported into our waters a decade ago, so its fair to assume that whatever diseases they brought at that time are already here. By saying all this I am in no way making a case that we can be lax about importation - just have a look at what is happening to the US waterways with the introduction of the Snakehead. Cheers Zoran
  6. Yes it would. But it has not happened in the millions of years that European/Asian rivers holding carp have been naturally emptying into seas and oceans. cheers Zoran
  7. Ok so Maria and I gave this a go .... to tenderise our 460g of occy, we incorporated what @joshGTV said about freezing them first and then what @kingie chaser said about using sliced kiwi fruit as a tenderiser (about 1hr) before separating out the kiwi and replacing it with mediterranean marinade of olive oil, garlic, chopped parsley , ground pepper and chilli (another hour). Happy to report the end result was fantastic - there was still plenty of texture but none of that hard chewiness. Please ignore the "plating"... we have a lot to learn from KC but this was a mid week lunch so nothing fancy .... The sides were air fried sweet potato fries and slices of fennel garnished with olive oil salt and pepper. Beats a lunchtime sanger eh??? Cheers Zoran
  8. With respect to all of your questions, I think it just depends on what you feel safe with - after all it is only you that knows how you will use your boat and under what conditions ....and in reality the EPIRB is the device you will rely on when all your other safety precautions have failed. Personally I have an MT600G just like yours and it is mounted in a prominent position near the helm but there is nothing that stipulates it has to be hard mounted - it could sit in your safety grab bag with your flares etc if you feel safer with it being there. The main thing is that you and your crew know EXACTLY where it is in an emergency and you all know who is going to do what and how to activate it... There is also the requirement that you can show you have one if requested by MSB as part of their routine safety check. Regarding your comments on a PLB, if you are boating solo, as a first you should definitely have a kill switch lanyard attached to yourself, so that if you do go overboard the motor will stop and you have a chance to get back to your vessel. If that is not enough safety for you, then consider a PLB. In my case, I never go solo offshore. If I was to invest in a PLB, then I should really be thinking about one for each of my crew.... or maybe we just shouldn't go out if the conditions are that iffy. Cheers Zoran
  9. Great topic @James Clain ... especially the use of these noxious pests as bait. Thanks @Mullatt. I'll be following with interest. As per other posts today, the price of saltwater bait is getting out of hand. Cheers Zoran

    Outboard problems

The EFI system has a high pressure fuel pump. I guess running this dry very infrequently (first time startup, rare out of fuel situation) may be ok. But not sure I would run it dry every time - these pumps have tight tolerances- the fuel is a form of lubricant. Similarly I don’t like to run the motor without water to the impeller- most idle at 600rpm. Just kicking it over would get 20-50revs of the rubber impeller rubbing dry against the metal casing. But these are just my thoughts- a marine mech would be best to consult on this. cheers Zoran

So sorry to read of your loss Neil. Our thoughts are with you. Zoran and Maria
  12. Donna... WOW. You have set the gold standard for reports. !! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Awesome fishing effort as well. Cheers Zoran
  13. .....and a day on the water breathing the fresh salt air. Can’t beat that. cheers Zoran

    Evinrude/BRP

Sad news when we lose such a big contributor to our sport ... competition drives innovation and pricing and we all benefit .... with a key player out of the game we'll have to see what the future holds. Hey Jason, I'm posting this to share that innovation keeps happening - I have no particular axe to grind. I am running a 2st and I have been researching and keeping up to date regarding repower options. Below is a BRP produced chart showing torque comparison between the 150 eTec (probably a G1) and a 150 Merc 4st. As you know hole shot happens between idle - usually around 700rpm and up to 2500rpm and in that RPM range it is all about torque at the prop shaft that gives you hole shot (torque also gives you control on the back of a wave). Above that RPM range you are at hull planing speed and into your midrange 3-4000 RPM performance. And above midrange is where motors typically produce their max HP ... but how many fishos sit at those RPM ranges and associated speeds? BRP acknowledged that the Merc 150hp 4st produced more torque (hence better hole shot) in that low RPM range ... so we can conclude the 4strokes have come a long way. The big fat flat torque curve of the 150 merc is very interesting as it means it can drive a large displacement prop pretty much consistently from 1800-5000rpm... it looks more like a high revving diesel. Here's the video from which I screen grabbed the chart. Cheers Zoran
  15. I have external washer/wipers which remove exterior fog/condensation/rain. Internally I keep a microfiber cloth on the dash and find after several wipes the fog stops forming. The initial fog/dew is a right PITA coming down middle harbour with all the early morning rowers but comes with the territory of a hardtop with full screens and the overall benefits that provides. I have purchased RainX but yet to use as I get by with the above procedures. cheers Zoran
  16. Awesome.... been swamped with chores... but now you've got me thinking !!! ... Cheers Zoran
  17. Great report and glad to hear your feeling well enough to go fishing. The trip to browns and back had accounted for many a seat ! cheers Zoran
  18. Just to close this out. I'm now not only cooking with gas ... but also showering with gas. Thanks so much to @61 crusher who did a fantastic job installing the Rinnai ... although I'm sure our constant digression to things fishing and boating extended the install time for him. Top bloke and top job mate - thanks again Dieter !! As a side note, I picked up on what @JonD said above and decided to buy a "jump starter with inverter" ... this will be the backup power supply for the gas hot water should there be a power outage at night when I don't have solar power, and as a bonus I can now use this in the 4wd, or on boat trips. All sorted because of Fishraider !!!! Cheers and Thanks to all. Zoran
  19. Zoom in and you will clearly see the blue spots on one of them. Yes In my experience the tiger and spiky are more red in colour and similar (but tigers grow bigger) They both are thicker in the shoulder area than the flatter shaped bluespot of equal size. Cheers Z
  20. Awesome KC. Thanks so much. Will give this a go with the three I caught recently. cheers Zoran
  21. I don’t have a side by side photo but this is a blue spot (Photo from dpi app) and this is a spiky (Photo from Fish market site) cheers Zoran
  22. Great report Baz. You gave it a go and had a day fishing - how bad can that be. As per my reports I’ve brought back occies on the last two trips. @joshGTV suggests freezing to tenderize so I’m giving that a go this time. cheers Zoran
  23. Nothing like a live report ! Best of luck ! Cheers Z
  24. Awesome, I look forward to the report ! The weather for the rest of the week does not look accomodating so you have certainly picked the night... best of luck. Cheers Z
  25. Best of luck Donna and Stewy !!! Cheers Zoran
