  1. Well done on catching a new species & fishing new territory, your a lucky man Gordo the only time I got a understanding pass from the boss was on our honeymoon in Port Douglas where she said I could buy a couple of ready made hand lines needless to say no rods where allowed to be packed on that holiday 🤣
  2. Great feed & report 👍, I was thinking the same thing when I saw the other reports
  3. I to have had the pleasure several times of enjoying both Zoran & Others company on board Barrycuda & experiencing the great ride & performance of Barry with both the old two stroke & now the new 4 stroke mercury. I think the purpose built pod that the donk sits on makes for an amazing ride and has turned Barry into an absolute weapon, I’ve been on quite a few boats some bigger than Barry & I can honestly say only a 48 & 35 Bertram have had a more comfortable ride, but non in my experience have been able to do 60 odd km/r all the way back from the shelf without having to touch the throttle till the heads on bugger all fuel for a good day out. As far as being the ideal fishing vessel I give it👍 👍😎👍👍, Z has put a lot of effort & well thought out gadgets to make a day out fishing not only safe, easy but also pleasurable with everything that’s needed within reach. The only thing the new lucky owner would maybe want to add on to make Barry a complete all round fishing weapon would be outriggers & maybe an upgraded live bait tank. If I was 15 years younger Z you would’ve already had my money
  4. Well done on a very nice feed Yowie Lucky the crab didn’t get a hold of you, as a young bloke I used to prawn barefoot & fortunately for me whilst taking a step I saw a movement where I was about to put my foot & upon moving the light came across a muddy with both claws outstretched & inches from my foot, needless to say it was a heart stoping moment which convinced me to wear runners from then on
  5. Great to hear that the little beach ramp has finally been sorted & what a cracker of a session you guys had 😎 & that wiskers keeps you coming back for more, one day mate 👍. Congrats on the new job, bet that will be a nice change being outdoors & by the water after all those years baking. Wouldn’t bloody surprise me Jeff if we start seeing reports from you catching good sized pannies off the docks 🤣
  6. Another great informative report, wow 16 & still left them biting, might have start calling you the “banana king slayer” 😆, well done on another ripper session Bob 😎
  7. Great photos & report Bob, you certainly know how to find those kings even when they’re reluctant to get on the chew 👍 Heard that just before the blow they’ve been around long reef & newie & seen a couple of rats coming off the stones, good to see they’ve finally arrived 😎
  8. Another great report & photos Dave it’s amazing that when you’re in a comp targeting flathead they’re like extracting hens teeth but any other time, go figure. But what a consolation by catch breaking your eleven year drought 😎
  9. Totally agree, another thing that I’ve found particularly with the softer fillets like flatties is to pat them down with paper towel & only dunk them in the saltwater if needed
  10. Great catch & just goes to show what persisting through the ominous weather & making a move can achieve 👍
  11. Well done, great read & photos on what looked like another glassed out day on the water. Sounds like an awesome day you guys had bagging out 😎 good to hear the pump issue was only minor, almost didn’t recognise you with the new summer look 😆
  12. @Volitan very broad & concise information you’ve shared which helps give a good understanding of what these weather events can create for us fishos. Thanks for sharing 👍
  13. What a surprising outcome on the field with so much knowledge, I’m hearing of a few young guns these days with all the skills of us seasoned fishos catching amazing fish & when asked how long they’ve been at it the answer is less than two years All this easy to access knowledge is one thing but understanding the principles & applying it properly is another thing. There are many people out there who seem to have all the degrees or knowledge base but don’t know how to apply it. I dare say this is happening in all facets of life, we used to call them “know it all’s” but one thing that’s missing these days is the hands on practice of an art or skill & learning to improve & adapt those skills to gain more knowledge. Unfortunately one of the best traits to have that appears to be disappearing from society is “commonsense”
  14. Agree totally & because at the end of the day the majority of us are the caring custodians of the water environments (rivers & the sea) & the creature that live within
  15. Great read & write up 👍 some good info above from @big Neil re circle hooks & particularly the feel of the bite which in turn drives our lust for fishing & the anticipation of the next hookup or next session Above all watch others fishing, techniques rigs etc & ask questions to learn the subtleties
  16. That’s fully open space inbetween is 72mm not including reel foot grips
  17. I recently bought a 6 to 10kg crystal power tip 6 foot for $60 which has a good action in the upper half & a very solid bottom end that I reckon will subdue kings to a meter. Was very impressed with the power & strength of the rod
  18. My thoughts to Bob It all started with the dust storm & the last lot of good rain that caused Warragamba dam to spill over, I’ve been chatting with a few blokes in the know & they’re likening it to the mid seventies floods (one in 50 years) & predicted that the yellowfin would come in close. I’ve heard of some being hooked up off the stones & one guy I chatted to had a school go past him in 40m of water about a month ago around the same time 7 or 8 fin to 1.5m swam past my feet while spinning for salmon Looking forward to the season ahead it’s shaping up to be a ripper 👍👍
  19. There’s good deep water close by & as the water warms up the kings & bonito cruise past, not far from there when we had good warm EA current running down the coast warmer than usual water made into the harbour & I saw & lost a good long tail on light line, also new of guys who caught spotted mackerel near middle head, that same year black marlin were seen & hooked at the mouth of the harbour The same year my two girls caught heaps of small dolphin fish all I had to do was throw out a couple of lures at the heads & start trolling, hooked up from 500 meters off the heads to as far as you wanted to troll Hopefully this event creates a bumper season to come
  20. The ones you got from Frank would be good in the estuaries, the salt water version should go alright in the surf, I did catch a rat once (salt version) casting at a bust up in the lower harbour, but mainly tailor wouldn’t be surprised that other pelagics would like them
  21. Try them in the Lanecove river on shallow ground about a meter or less at about 1.6 km/h need to get a slow pulsating action in the rod tip, should work for flatties Have used them & caught pelagics mainly tailor but have Als caught flatties Are they still available, from memory silver with either blue or red body & made of metal, have also caught flatties on them
  22. Good to here, the next new moon period try prawn imitation plastics (match the hatch)
  23. Sitting under a noisy awning that’s getting pelted by rain got me thinking about what others might do & catch during this weather. If I was keen I’d be focusing on creek & river mouths for a silver ghost or two which I’m sure a few fishermen up the coast would already have there gear & lures in readiness for when the rain starts to ease. So out of curiosity what are people’s thoughts about the season ahead for La Niña
  24. Try just before dawn @Little_Flatty that rock outcrop is a good bit of structure & maybe on the tides work the edges of the points at either end of the bay where the current just kisses the slower water in the bay (eddies) if the bait is there they should be close by. If the boat shed with wooden ramp near the bridges is still there might be good on an outgoing tide fishing back towards the bay
