  1. I can vouch they do work @Yowie however on the day I donโ€™t recollect any flatties coming up but they certainly kept the pickers busy (small bite marks) that little plastic squid jig with assist hooks attached to the sinker accounted for a lot of fish Thanks @Zoran for the photos & video, always makes a write up more interesting & yes work combined with family runarounds have kept me busy call the next picture "DIETER-MINATION" Focusing on finding the bait school ๐Ÿ‘ Thanks Jeff Zโ€™s boat is definitely that + well decked out with all the bells & whistles & everything in easy reach The only thing we didnโ€™t do was cube, lots of rats, had we who knows maybe a yellowfin might have showed up (lucky bugger ๐Ÿ‘) Nothing better than true raider spirit except for maybe a good aerial dolly bouncing around on the end of a 10 to 15kg outfit pulling string ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘
  2. Good report & good on you for being a great dad the smile says it all hopefully youโ€™ve got a new deckie & she becomes as keen as you ๐Ÿ‘to you & your daughter ๐Ÿ‘
  3. Well done Jeff & congrats, great photo and glad to see the fish are back welcome back to โ€œhappy landโ€ & getting rid of homerโ€™s favourite dessert of your back ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  4. Well done on getting BN his first legal king, think you need a bigger bunch for those XO specimens ๐Ÿ˜
  5. Great catch on a squid rod & with such a small window, well done
  6. Congrats on your first legal kingy hopefully better & bigger to come great read๐Ÿ‘
  7. Great report & photos in relation to your local area & tactics that work for you, some good tips for others working the bay & flatties in general ๐Ÿ‘
  8. With great weather conditions forecast & a 5:30am meet up at the ramp with Zoran & his well decked out โ€œBarrycudaโ€ we were off & in no time out at the 50m mark By about 10:30 we had 11 flatties onboard from low 40โ€™s through to high 50โ€™s one good sized rock cod (poor mans lobster), 2 x good sized red spot whiting & one slimy which I had to dance around on the engine pod to retrieve after 2 of them dropping off out the back while trying to get them into the live tank while setting up the trolling gear for the north fad we saw a school of bait on the sounder & out came the Sabiki rods, only managing a slimy a yakka & a lone arrow squid (bait on the move) & a couple of spikies which were released (bait holding on the bottom 15m) Once about 800m from the fads we deployed 5 skirts & on the first pass picked up about a 58cm rat which we managed to the boat & trace but on lifting into the boat had a knot slip & saw said kingy swim away with a bit of jewellery hanging out of its mouth ๐Ÿ™ƒ. After several passes though the fads & trap bouys no dolphin fish to be found but all up 6 under sized kings hooked & released With a calm sea & run in tide we were back at the ramp in just over 40 minutes (go the torquey 150 merc). A bit of cross over ramp traffic & busy cleaning table saw us saying goodbye & leaving Brooklyn a bit after 5pm All up another great day out on the water & a nice feed to take home, thanks again Zoran thoroughly enjoyed the mateship & day out ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Sorry no photos but Iโ€™m sure Zoran will tag some in, & on a side note guys check out @zmk1962โ€™s video with the cordless drill & portable reducing gear, definitely makes life easier retrieving the boat at the ramp ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  9. Great report & sorry to hear of your heartache, but the fact that you got to see it will keep your expectations going in the hope of success in your future fishing escapades which you will know doubt succeed at, so close yet not a winner yet ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž
  10. Not to expensive these days & certainly makes winching easier Have a look at Zoranโ€™s recent video post, I think I built up more of a sweat videoing him than he did holding the drill ๐Ÿ˜ @zmk1962
  11. A+ for knocking up that nifty portable reducer, considering the old ryobi has seen better days it did the job with ease & no strain on the drill ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Wouldnโ€™t be surprised if you get a few fishraiders with larger rigs or physical issues enquiring about possibly getting one made up
  12. Good read & photos there Mike sounds like Derekโ€™s a great teacher as his students take it all on & keep passing with flying colours ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘
  13. Another great read & photos Dave youโ€™ve certainly got a great backyard to play around in
  14. Good to see youโ€™re giving the kings a breather ๐Ÿ˜„ sounds like you & your mates had a great day out with a great mixed bag as well ๐Ÿ‘ Pickles at least youโ€™re thinking of the man upstairs while dangling a line & enjoying the fruits of his labour ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  15. Great post & what a fish especially in the origami boat ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘ wouldโ€™ve been fun watching you guys as your mate probably kept ducking his head as the kingy ran around the boat or towing you two around, where did you get it, Point Piper or or Vaucluse side of the bay
  16. Thanks Adrian @kingie chaser that one morning where we did well I was shivering for the first couple of hours & nearly downed a whole thermos of tea, a bit of a breeze on the lake is always helpful as they feel safer from above (birds of prey) on quite a few occasions weโ€™ve had hits in the middle of the day when the wind was upthis one was caught after midday flatlining & happened to be my tagged fish, you can see the tag if you zoom in& this is one of the reasons the trout are weary this sea eagle photo was taken last year & I happened to see 2 soaring around while we were down there last week
  17. Good report & well done fishyMc Steve youโ€™ve certainly upped your game & I bet your partner is loving the rewards of your enhanced skills ๐Ÿ‘
  18. Another great day on the kingies & a PB salmon to boot ๐Ÿ˜Ž great shot of the banana moe Top stuff on giving raiders the coordinates of spot X, wouldnโ€™t surprise me if it becomes the new long reef of the south ๐Ÿ‘
  19. Itโ€™s always good sometimes to get back to basics & you certainly managed a good feed by doing so, Well done on releasing the bigger one
  20. Managed to fluke a fish rise in this photo in the reflection on the water in the middle of the 2 kangaroos
  21. After arriving in the afternoon & unpacking our gear & launching the boat for our stay at lake Jyndabine instead of the Fitzroy river Rockhampton (COVID border lockout). My mate & I decided to troll around the islands & clay pits before sunset, we did manage 2 strikes but no hook ups the following day did a morning & afternoon session for a couple of rainbows each session which seemed to be the norm for most of our trip up to 40cm, certainly different to what we were used to when previously coming down in June & getting mainly browns & a few rainbows & the odd 60cm+ fish (salmon or brown) The following day was much the same except that in the arvo session my mate managed to pick up our first decent fish, a stocky 45cm rainbow & after netting it I noticed a pink tag, one of a 170 odd tagged fish released in early October into the lake with potential prizes attached to each number, not all tags have a prize yet as they are still looking for sponsors but at this stage the equivalent amount have been released into lake Eucumbene & a further 80 odd into various smaller lakes & resivours throughout the snowy mountains (2 tags $4500, 1 x $1500 & various other tags $$$ & 10 x $100 vouchers for local tackle store) Noticing that the water temp was around 18 to 19โ€™c (daytime temps up to 28โ€™c) even around dawn when flatlining the shallows & running planners & down rigging during the day we ended up chatting to one of the local born & bred local fly fishos who suggested looking for cooler oxygenated water. We decided to head up to Careel bay next morning pre dawn, with overcast & the coldest day of our trip the water temp running at 16 odd degrees we put out our flatline spread & within 15 minutes we had our first double hookup of the the trip a couple of nice healthy 40+cm rainbows ๐ŸŒˆ, Both of us cold from the cooler weather we persisted & managed to get another double hookup & managed to get our first 2 browns (legal but under 38cm) which were released & managed 10 fish for the morningincluding a skinny legal salmon, we even found the coolest water getting down to low 12โ€™s Needless to say we were up there the next morning nice & early worse for wear after both of us had a good evening on the vodkas ๐Ÿฅƒ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿค• The air temp was back up to normal sunny & in the 20โ€™s by 8:30am & even though we found the cooler water the fishing was back to 2 or 3 fish per session for the rest of our stay, around midday at my usual spot driving the boat & on strike my mate was about to grab a hooked up rod fortunately me being quick to react I managed to bring in a 44cm rainbow ๐ŸŒˆ & low & behold another tagged fish The only other thing worth mentioning was that on our last day we ended up with a salmon each up to 38cm Overall not a bad week away with probably a couple of undersized fish, 6 browns all released 3 salmon & the rest being rainbows of which 4 were males all fish caught on either yellow winged or holographic tassies & hardbodied lures, flatlined down rigged or on planners, we chose not to run the lead core as it can get quite messy with tangles when running 4 rods & tight to structure even though others did alright using it with 3 to 4 colours
  22. Good on you for thinking outside of the box, nice fish
