  1. That's a great write up by @arpie
  2. Mate your out there giving it a crack which is the main thing so good on you 👍 I watch a lot of YouTubes on a lot of different subject matter(some highly detailed technical stuff) & what tends to annoy the hell out of me in something that's supposed to be sort of tutorial is this crap head banger music that goes along with it & your left guessing really about what it is there are trying to explain to you. Sometimes all that is needed is some good proper narration without all the heavy metal!! I get way more out of a tutorial vid when the poster explains the why, when & how in detail over glorified background music. Just my 2 cents
  3. Also saw a young fella once( a few years ago now) catch a 70/80cm kingie with fresh unweighted squid on the inside of the breakwall, about 3/4 the way down amongst the moored boats.
  4. Nice, it pays to be organised as if something comes along unexpectedly you have to be johnny on the spot with a change of rig. Any chance sharing where you got those wallets from. Id like to get some myself if they are cheap enough
  5. Ah the good old days when you could basically do whatever you wanted wherever you wanted 😏 Nowadays almost any seagrass areas are protected & before you set foot on a piece of sand you have to check if there are any restrictions/sanctuary zones. I remember as a kid some 40 years ago freely trudging through Duchies beach collecting cockles & pumping for nippers with my old man. Now be prepared to pay a $500 fine if caught!
  6. Welcome to Australia & fishraider 👍 What specifically are you trying to catch?? Different species usually require different rigs/bait etc. Whiting & bream would like the pippies & can be caught on similar rigs but that depends on how you are tying to fish i.e off the beach or rocks. More info please!
  7. While I enjoyed watching each 3 off your vids & don't want to come off as negative I think you should think about the titles of all of them & think about inserting more info in captions & additional info or links. You really haven't described 'how to' catch anything really but you in the process of catching them. Im guess I am from the old school of if your going to state something then back it up with the detail!! Just saying
  8. Some cracking snaps there guys, good to see some smiles onya dials Good on you scratchie for giving up some time & passing on your knowledge 👍 Not sure why you didn't have the time but you don't always have to cook fish! A nice plate of snapper sashimi would be awesome & take no time at all, a filleting knife, cutting board, some soy & wasabi is all you need.
  9. Unfortunately there are a whole number of contributing factures. Intimately you need to use methods to reduce the amount of 'slack' line & if possible try to manoeuvre where the wind is coming from behind you, hence reducing slack line build up. If stick baiting or using poppers don't wind the reel as your line hits the water, rather close the bail arm manually & even stop the line coming off the spool straight away with your hand, also if possible try to position your flat open fingers where the line is coming off the spool to keep a bit more tension on the line, obviously this will reduce your cast distance a bit but you cant have it all right!! Make sure your reel is spooled evenly & not over filled, if your spool has more line at the bottom or the top it can produce overlaps, if there is to much line on the spool then line tends to just fall off the spool. Rod tip wobble is also a factor, rods with soft tips give the line a oscillating movement & knots form as the line starts to slacken where the line catches up with the line that's in the water already. In some cases like fishing off the beach with onshore winds I just go back to fishing with mono, while it can still happen it us usually less frequent. Hope that helps 👍
  10. That's a cracker, well done
  11. Im not sure what a slapstick is but I have read about people trolling using knife jigs. Havent tried it myself but you would have to play with the weights & shapes over the speed to get the right depth.
  12. There is a heap of lures out there & each produce there own action that are designed for a certain species. Some people use small poppers or stick baits for whiting but you could also use a sinking lure as well I haven't used these yet but im getting a couple to try this week, the seem to be a good allrounder? Nomad are producing what look like some fantastic lures, just dear as hell!
  13. Must have been a decent fish to get smoked on 40lb! Good to hear there are some larger ones amongst the pickers. Cheers.
  14. Welcome to the forum. A picture or 2 could help!
  15. 5K isn't a lot of money but will get you into an older style runabout like these examples- https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/1998-QUINTREX-455-Fishabout/SSE-AD-5383001/?cr=12&psq=(((Service%3D[Boatsales]%26Make%3D[QUINTREX])%26((SiloType%3D[Dealer used boats]|SiloType%3D[Private used boats])|SiloType%3D[Demo and near new boats]))%26BoatSubType%3D[Runabout])&pso=0&pss=Premium https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/1984-QUINTREX-45M-Lazeabout/SSE-AD-5808937/?cr=35&psq=(((Service%3D[Boatsales]%26Make%3D[QUINTREX])%26BoatSubType%3D[Runabout])%26(((SiloType%3D[Dealer used boats]|SiloType%3D[Dealer new boats])|SiloType%3D[Private used boats])|SiloType%3D[Demo and near new boats]))&pso=30&pss=Premium https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/2005-QUINTREX-42m-Estuary/SSE-AD-5660985/?cr=8&psq=(((Service%3D[Boatsales]%26Make%3D[QUINTREX])%26BoatSubType%3D[Runabout])%26(((SiloType%3D[Dealer used boats]|SiloType%3D[Dealer new boats])|SiloType%3D[Private used boats])|SiloType%3D[Demo and near new boats]))&pso=0&pss=Premium Here is also a recent thread on a similar line of question that may help- https://www.fishraider.com.au/topic/88316-boat-buying-advice/
  16. Its also hard to comment on the right tilt position without knowing the hull shape. What works well with no chop may not work effectively in a lot of chop as well. Its all trial & error as to what is comfortable/performs better in different conditions to your hull.
  17. When you say you tried running with the engine tilted did you actually change the trim position by removing the pin & re positioning the motor & re inserting the pin?? If so what positions did you try(usually there are 6 hole positions), usually hole 2 or 3 from the bottom would be the right position for general criusing. Tinnies will generally always raise up in the front before it gets onto the plane but with some weight up the front is will just get there quicker but will travel slower as always it comes down to power to weight ratio. Is it an aluminium hull?? If so a 15hp still should be able to plane as long as there is not a heap of extra wait on board & the trim position is right. I wouldn't be adding sand bags but I would tend to try & put whatever I am carrying on board like tackle boxes, eskies etc towards the front.
  18. If your new to the whole boating thing can I then suggest even if your not actually required because there are 2 people in the craft that you please put a life jacket on! My ally tinny isn't much bigger & I know even on my own how easy it is for things to go wrong, it wouldn't take much to turn that light weight over, even sudden movement from the other(larger) person in the boat could turn it over!! Just saying. Enjoy but be safe 👍
  19. Doesn't sound like you need ideas mate, looks like you already have it nailed
  20. Paella, originating in Valencia is one of those that started out as a peasants dish & used whatever they had around but was the earliest version was prominently a casserole of rice & fish then as usual people start to change it as better ingredients became available. Fast forward 800 years to the 18th century & as living standards improved more common ingredients were some sort of game like rabbit or duck, snails, a variety of beans, paprika, garlic & saffron. As this dish spread to other areas of the Mediterranean more prominent seafood versions began to appear. Nowadays its more common to see versions with things like chorizo, chicken, prawns & mussels. So its one of those dishes that you really just use what you prefer but in my opinion there are 2 essentials ingredients that are needed, one is saffron & the other is chorizo, unless you are making it specifically for say a vegetarian that eats fish chorizo gives the dish essential flavour through the fat content & the smoked paprika. While not traditional by any means I also like to add a dry white wine like Riesling.
  21. Im sure scrathchie & Baz will pipe in here in no time 👍 Meantime not sure if Id be to keen taking a 4m tinny out to cabbage tree let alone try to get to Broughton but each to their own! Edit: I have a 3.9mtr tinny & I wouldn't even try it!
  22. Well done young fella. My PB is 80 as well (on SP) so I know the feeling of being chuffed about landing a super fish like that, although took me about 30 years longer to get compared to the young fella
