  1. Juvenile Brown Skua ?????
  2. Had a couple of mate went south of Port Hacking yesterday and had similar results as you Yowie. They will be biting their heads of next week when I come down for a visit 🙏 😀 Also have a look at this site and you may recognise the bird but juveniles to adults are often different colourings.. mmm a bit like fish. https://oceanwide-expeditions.com/blog/birds-of-the-south-33-antarctic-and-sub-antarctic-species-facts
  3. Great story and a great dog you have there Bob. PS Don’t tell her she’s a dog as she won’t believe you. Bob patting Rosie “Good dog Rosie” Rosie looking up at Bob “Dog, where’s the the dog, I like them, can we get a dog Bob”
  4. A couple I liked from NZ. The Herbs. Reggae with topical political songs. They got very well know by playing with Dave Dobin (DD Smash) The Bats. Still got a couple of their records ….. somewhere. Screaming Meemees. Just a great pub band. Plus the well know ones, Dragon, Split Enz. Thanks Mike Sydney and DerekD.
  5. Great Aussie Pub band in the 80’s “ God -My Pal.” Picture seeing them back then, in Dingy, badly lit room full of energy and sweat with every one going off. I know, I know, not everyone’s cup of tea. On a sad note, 2 of the 4 members went on to die of Heroin overdoses later in life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAVz4PW1WMA
  6. That’s such a great effort to correlate all that, thanks for taking then time and effort DerekD.
  7. Ahh the Ermo, The Family Hotel up the road at Rydalmere also had some good bands. Last time I went there many moons ago I watched Spy V Spy.
  8. Dark and dingy, down the stairs where the carpet is sticky with spilt Bourbon and Coke. 😀
  9. Now that’s a Bream, excellent fish.
  10. Could you imagine if some of the above music fans met up on a wharf for a fish discussing Australian music, playing a few of what we believe is Aussie …….we would never get home and driving everyone else from the wharf. (Ever been fishing in a public place and someone play a genre that is not that appealing to someone else, Hip Hop, Gangster Rap with very explicit words, Death metal, (Aussie)Trap, (Aussie)Drill and the list goes on. Now there’s another avenue to go down, Aussie Trap and Drill. Mmmmm maybe not as popular as Kylie, Cold Chisel or INXS 😁 One think I have learned over the years is that music is personal, what one thinks is the best thing since sliced bread others think it’s garbage or just OK. Good luck on you quest DerekD …… I’m staying tuned.
  11. This is a great topic DerekD. I have about as much musical talent as a Brick or Hammer, no I correct that, those items have more but I love music and many different Genres. As a kid I listened to commercial radio till good old Double J came along which the DJ who was on at the time virtually had to take their own Albums in to play, I found other music than commercially produced and opened my eyes to the other side. ABC was the first to try and get other bands and Musicians played, they had a great show early 70's called GTK. Now for the Australian bands, a few who I liked have previously been mentioned so I won't go there ... but The Riptides, have a look who played in that band. see "Tomorrow Tears." Mark Callaghan then went onto GANGjagang. The Saints. Much discussion about were they the first Punk Band.Cris Bailey would not be dragged into, Were They ? Ed Kuepper who came out of that Band, which is still one of my favourite artists. The Go Betweens, "Cattle and Cane" Up there with Gangajang. "The sounds of Then" Redgum, who has been mentioned before were a very Political Group. See "Letter to B.J." as well as all their other songs. What about Aussie "Sharpey Bands" now "Sharpies were very Australian. I think there is a Doco on Australian Sharpies. Lobby Loyde and Coloured Balls plus a few more that I would have to Google. Now for Indigenous Bands. No Fixed Address. Warrumpi Band. "My Island home" Written by Neil Murray and also one of my favourite Singer Songwriters. If your inclined look up George Burarrwangas version in language Pigram Bros. "Going Back Home" Because I getup to the Kimberleys often it strikes a special Cord in my heart. Coloured Stone. I'll have a bit more of a think and see what I come up with. Thanks again DerekD
  12. Excellent photos Jon and great job in staying in the water in that suit.🥶
  13. Great result and those fillets certainly look bloody yum.👍
  14. Yes Yowie the “Snook” common southern variety have been recorded in Sydney and it is confusing. Look at our NSW Fish of the state, the mighty Blue Groper which is a Wrasse 😄
  15. Common names are always confusing for these fish. Snook- “Sphyraena novaehollandiae” Have been recorded in NSW but are not common and have quite a few common names including a variety with Pike in it. Striped Barracuda- “Sphyraenidae obtustra” Also goes under another common name Yellowtail Barracuda ( Australian Museum and Fish of Australia) differ??? Plus other common names which have Pike it. Sigh … 🤔 My guess would be “Obustra” as they are quite common in Sydney but happy to be corrected. At the end of the day it’s always good to get a new species that you hadn’t caught before.
  16. Great write up and great photos. Better than being at home.
  17. Blackfish

    Old stuff

I remember a lot of what has been written in this thread ……… Well that’s nothing
  18. Blackfish

    Old stuff

Now that does bring back memories. Caramel malted Milkshake was my choice back then.
  19. Blackfish

    Old stuff

Great find and certainly brings back memories for me. I had a couple of those Alvey tackle boxes which have long gone and I think I could find some of those Helmet but I called them Bell sinkers still kicking around at the back of the cupboard. Great nostalgia find.
  20. Good that you got out Neil and gave it a go, certainly not a bad way to spend a couple of hours on the river and in the bush. Looks very relaxing.
  21. Sorry Frank, I don’t remember that one but I do remember when they used to swim the horses where Cooks river came out near the Bridge and when you could fish off the old Wharf at Port Botany before redeveloped, used to get a few squid off there.
  22. Yellowtail have been recorded up there but certainly not frequently seen . Maybe because they are not that common people don’t fish for them so you could give it a try. A loaf of bread, maybe a bit of tuna oil and see how you go. You may also get some Poddy Mullet around as well.
  23. Yes they do and have been recorded at Wentworth Point, Meadowbank Wharf, Putney etc, but can’t tell you how common they are.
  24. Now that’s some pimping, great job.
  25. Be a big ask to get a 1kg leatherjacket in the Harbour, maybe a big Sixspine or more towards the Heads you may encounter a Mosiac which get over a Kilo. The common type you would get in the Harbour, Yellowfin and Fanbelly get up that size but that would be pushing their limit and would be rare. Good luck and I hope you get one. Let us know how you go.
