  1. Great photos there Swordies and it sounds like a very pleasant, relaxed trip. 👍
  2. Great stuff Dave and Amy getting a few species on different methods and hasn’t it been cold in the mornings.
  3. Great reward for the effort you went through to catch them BN. Just the photos make me feel cold let alone your description mate. 🥶
  4. That’s a great fish FOR anywhere in the world JaniFIN. Congratulations.
  5. Winter is more of a difficult time to fish for them in the area I believe. DON’T be disheartened now certainty keep trying but the warmer months produce more.
  6. That’s some great fish there JF. Thanks for posting that up, it’s great to see what other people are catching on the other side of the world.
  7. That’s fantastic Albert. Good on you.
  8. My guess would be a Estuary Glassfish as opposed to a Port Jackson Glassfish that have a different dorsal which have come up on here before. The Australian Herring have marks on the side of their body and a black spot on the top and bottom tip of their tails. Always happy to be corrected though.
  9. I think the name “Flathead” is misused as well. Google “Imported Fkathead”
  10. More info that makes a bit more sense. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-05/qld-gillnet-free-great-barrier-reef-duongs-hammerhead-sharks-/102442272
  11. I thought the article was a bit vague. Maybe it’s me. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-09/fish-prices-to-rise-ban-on-gillnet-fishing-industry-says/102455716
  12. I like Weipa as well, glad you had a great time.
  13. Great report and it certainly looks cold.
  14. Bloody tough there Rebel
  15. Tailor and Trevally grilled with a bit of butter on in the process. Butterfly the Tailor if not to big.
  16. Great advice Noelm, I get checked yearly and have been very lucky, only the sunspots that get frozen off so far.
  17. That’s a great phrase there Hill. Something similar was used in “The Crow staring Brendan Lee” and also a in a song by “Unkle. Eye for a Eye” Plus I bet many other songs as well over the years. These are 2 of my favourites anyhow. PS. I went for a fish the other night. 3 Duskys, 1 may have been legal. All released. Multiple Bream. 2 may have been legal. All released. 1 Luderick. Undersized. Released. It got me thinking, I had good bait, correct rig but was it the wrong tide. life is a learning experience keeping the mind active whether that’s in work or retirement with hobbies and up here there is so many things do do and the community encourages, its great. Lastly, a fellow turned up at the ramp the other night because they have good fish cleaning tables. He had 10 very good size Tailor that he had just caught, off the rocks he said and got them in 30 minutes as there were plenty. I didn’t ask where as I thought that was a bit much and I could imagine him thinking the next night I’d be down there stopping him getting to his spot. That’s if he wanted to go. So, More thinking on my behalf, I know there was a fair Southerly swell running, so it would have been North/Northeast facing and it would have been around the top of the tide. Catching the fish is ok but the challenge of finding them is what motivates me. I think I read that @dirvin21 and Amy, said he was going to see how many species he could catch through winter up here, again I don’t think it’s so much about a dead fish in the boat but the challenge of catching them. And that what keeps the mind active. I’m not a Star Trek fan but “Live long and prosper”
  18. Ok so you have motivated me BD, I’ve pumped some nippers and I’m off the the wharf at the boat ramp tonight to have a fish when it gets dark for maybe a hour of so.
  19. Neil the house we bought up here, the fellow was a avid gardener but over 20 plus years it got away on them. They left so many pot plants in the jungle and after speaking to a couple of neighbours I find they are looking after quite a few till they move into their retirement village so when your up this way I can given you a heap of succulents….. better make it quick though before my wife tosses them 😄
  20. It’s funny how people from the shore want to cast out further but when in a boat you want to troll closer the the rocks and wash for fish 🤔
  21. Great relies on this. @BaitDropper where did you move to down the coast. I love the South Coast but not the winter weather and up till moving we holidayed down at Tathra or Pambula and could not believe how few people there were down there in January….. well compared to what I was used to in Sydney. Port Macquarie is a very busy coastal town with lots of older people (like me 😀) but super friendly. The big thing is I’ve gone down to the boat ramp just to have a bit of a look and generally there’s only a couple of boats out, at Easter there was only a few more but the weather was crook. Maybe at Chrissy it could be crowded. In Sydney even during the week the boat ramps were busy. Would I go back to Sydney, never. I had my first 64years there and started work at 15, worked stupid hours all my life and working hard was my only option as I’ve never considered my self smart so I had to put in hours to make a living. Anyhoooooo, I’m sitting in the sunroom with sun on my back drinking a nice cup of Tea, loose leaf of course contemplating on wether I’ll go and pump some nippers today on the low tide and throw one out to see if there is any fish up here. Decisions decisions……. I’m sounding like a old codger …….. maybe I am. Bahhhaaaa
  22. A little similar there BD, retired and moved up the coast 2 month ago …… fishing PFFFFFTTTTT, no chance yet with lots of house stuff to do but I’m in a better place. One day I’ll get out for a fish. All the best
  23. I’m no expert on anything technical but the Navtronics App works on my phone when there is definitely no reception. Maybe something like that.
