  1. Great fishing Dave - love those whiting are lovely mate and nothing wrong with 33- nicely done (nippers did the damage as usual).
  2. Top effort @MaxiTroll, that is one nice Kingie👏👏. What ramp did you head off from?
  3. Hey @whiskey299, a cracker of a day on the snapper. Well done, a pity about the sounder, hope you get it sorted without too much expense. (Devil fish are beautiful indeed, that one is a male, much bigger and more attractive than the girls - I see them occasionally when diving, not that I do that much now, but get a few dives in each year.)
  4. Brilliant, thanks @Koalaboi , when I was young and stoopid, I tried the Donavon “Mellow Yellow” (strings on banana when peeled, dried and smoked), all I got was a sore throat. Served me right. Now I get my kicks from sharing the truth of Jesus and fishing - both at the same time if I can.
  5. Great you made it out on “opening day” and surprising only one other boat. The Cod in the net looks like a solid fish - hopefully sign of the coming season.
  6. Great report Josh. Black Trevally - DO NOT GET SPIKED these are a serious and painful species like Bullrout (Fortesque) and red rock cod. I know from experience (not fun and will ruin a days fishing). The pain lasts for several hours. I carry a thermos of boiling water as this will breakdown the poison and offer some relief.

    Fumbling a fish

We’ve all done it @Fab1, thanks for sharing.(good to have a laugh at yourself)
  8. Great feed Dave - I’d swap Flatties for snapper any day, pity the Flatties don’t fight like snapper though, well done mate.
  9. Got out for the second time in 2 days 😌. Headed off shore thanks to @whiskey299 and followed his advice and bagged 2 nice snapper (75 & 51cm). Conditions blew up and swell was sloppy so headed back in about 10am and tried a few spots inside the heads, but only rats, but good fun and plenty of them. The snapper were 50m off the rocks and caught free lining unweighted strips of fresh slimy mackerel (heaps and heaps at all the bait grounds, (the rock fall inside nth head, the heads themselves, middle Head, George’s Head, the artificial has smaller- better sized ones). Kingies were caught on live Yakkas, live slimies and squid, I reckon they would have taken prawns if we had them. Also got a just under 2m bronze whaler that took 15 minutes to get to the surface. I thought I’d hooked a seriously big Kingie - very disappointed. Overall a good day made better by catching up with Raider Bill in his BarCrusher @blaxland.
  10. Looking forward to seeing pics of you with some nice cod Neil.
  11. After a week of rain and postponed promises (to help Ty get his first Jewfish ), we finally got out, heading for Webs creek at 5am. Ty’s fishing had been limited to catching carp in “the lagoon” and was very eager to catch a jewfish. Goal achieved, we caught 13 between us, (all soapies & none legal) a bag of Flatties, some chopper tailor and a large stingray that was going to be Ty’s “Jewie of a lifetime”, until we saw what it was and cut it off - it was a heck of a fight for the young bloke on 12 lb line.
  12. Great report @whiskey299, love your committment. There are some great pics of those recipies and fully endorse the benefits of looking after your catch. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Well done @Mass, can’t beat live bait for great results and nippers are great bait.
  14. Hey Mike, interesting what we fishos think up in our quiet moments.
  15. Wow 50cm brown trout is a nice fish, a pity it wouldn’t come out to play, but a good day by the sounds of it. Well done.
  16. They are 2 really good fish - perfect size cod for the plate and a hubby yellow belly indeed - thanks for the report 👏👏
  17. Good on you for posting @seies, always good when mail a new species.
  18. Spectacular results Chris, an exhilarating feeling landing a Mahi Mahi that size. Well done and sounds like perfect conditions.
  19. @Ledge (Aidan) and buddy Joe (never caught a kingfish until today) and I planned a trip to 12mile or The Peak, but as often happens, the weather was against us with strong winds predicted and sloppy swell, so after collecting slimies and Yakkas we headed for Long reef. Ledge and Joe hooked up quickly and we ended up boated 13 kings at Longie (all rats, but a couple close to legal), then went drifting for Flatties (only 2 keepers), then stopped off inside Nth Head on the way back and Joe and Aidan bagged another 2 rat Kingies. The highlight of the day was Joe hooking into a real Hoodlum that stripped line and gave him an arm wrenching run and fight for a good minute or so until the 80lb line separated from the hook. The reel was a Stella 10000 with 65lb braid and 80lb fluro leader - all quality gear paired to a Demon blood rod. Joe was afraid the rod would snap, but he held on when reassured that it had landed several meter plus Kingies in the past. A pity we couldn’t get the fish to the boat, but it’ll be there till next time. Although conditions were less than favourable, we had a great day in God’s great outdoors and as a bonus @Ledgepresented me with a banana hat ☺️ 🍌
  20. Brilliant @FishingFables, very interesting stuff. I’ve tied a few bread flies and used them when when burleying up n Sydney harbour and had some success on yellowtail and Trevally. There’s plenty of mullet in Deerubbin, you’ve inspired me to have a shot at them.
  21. Great report Chris, love the shot of the stumpy tail / shingle back in your shot (They are my totem as Gundungurra man). Some really nice saltwater fish and a great adventure. Thanks for sharing.
  22. A lovely bag of red’s @whiskey299 - many thanks for posting - a comprehensive report. (Not sure about others, but I never get sick of hearing about Kingies).
  23. Well done @kantong, lots of sand flats around the bay in Port Stevens - it looks like you nailed ‘em. It’s a great place and some excellent fishing and great to get the kids involved, stuff memories are made of.
