  1. That’s a ripper Jeff looks good & money well spent, now you can show your mates what a big one really looks like 😎
  2. You always manage to pick the good days & looks like you & Wayno had a pearler of a day 👍 Something that has occasionally worked for me when they are difficult to hook up is to throw a handful of pilly chunks & 4/0 to 6/0 buried into one of the junks on a leader of 30 to 40lb & without tension just keep feeding it out till it all well & truly disappears into the depths if lucky they’ll take it well away from the boat good read & as always you certainly thought outside the square & gave it a good crack 👍
  3. Awesome session & photos there Bob good on you guys for only keeping one a piece & releasing the rest (fresh is best) & besides with the run you’ve been having on them you can always go out there & get another fresh one. Steve must be really enjoying the experience & knowledge he is gaining from you, I might have to take you up on that offer one day
  4. With any luck scratchie you’ll have those snapper & Broughton to yourself well except for maybe @rickmarlin62 😄but then again a million bucks is damn tempting I reckon the kingy spots will be like Pitt street 🤪
  5. Thanks Zoran that’s what I call snaggy luck Thanks for the in-depth info @GordoRetiredalways hit the shop outside the park & get the good oil off Brian (good bloke) & always friendly usually do everything as you’ve said except what I pinned above, have tried there before without much luck might get there if the wind & rain settles down, only managed rainbows so far & even got one of the tagged ones at 44cm, report to come later 👍
  6. Salmon & the odd salmon or tailor & as @Rebelsaid cold & the seas are up
  7. That was pretty good of marine rescue to give you a quick heads up, the squid were over near the obelisk, yeah it was a good morning mind you a little chilly & the wind only eased up when we headed in just after 1pm @GordoRetired I’m heading with my mate next week to our normal winter getaway good old Jyndabine would you have any tips or suggestions, I’m aware of trolling shallows sun up & sun down & we figured trolling the creek beds & islands during the day & running lures deeper 🤞🤞
  8. Must be a lot of sides on the plate or damn good sized wings, if it’s a saltwater Barra yum 😋
  9. Definitely lucky I felt a few bumps transmitting through the line as my mate was disengaging the spot lock & as he engaged the motor into reverse that’s when it snagged up & I told him to hit neutral which probably saved us from losing it my fillet managed to feed 5 people with one chunk still left over & my mates fed 4 in his family & another couple, he ended up with the wings which initially he didn’t want but since he was barbecuing I told him to give them a try (loved it) Took the squid, the occy got its legs taken by pickers probably leatheries They were there but very timid & hard to get a solid take, only found the arrows in the one spot though Interestingly the guts had only 2 tiny cuttlefish
  10. I’ve been with club marine for 10 years now & have stayed with them because in the second year made a claim re broken down car on a long weekend just south of P Stephens, initially they were only interested in getting the boat back to Sydney but after too & froing re the car not being there issue I managed to find a tow company willing to table top the car & tow the boat & have enough space for four of us & the pooch, they paid the bill no probs I think our daughters 6 & 8 helped clinch the deal & there generosity Have met others who’ve been happy with their experiences
  11. Don’t think any of us except maybe big Neil trying to get a bit more water over his favourite snags 😂😂 With any luck should stir things up for a good season ahead
  12. Had a morning fish in Sydney on Tuesday with a mate before work. As expected the the squid where hard to come by & after two & a half hours we only managed 2 & an occy, other boats struggled as well & we tried quite a few different spots Around two hours before the high near Rose Bay we dropped down the occy & one of my squid, 15 minutes later my rod buckled over with an intense & short fight I could feel the line rubbing on the rocks & while still bent over with no signs of a struggle below & snagged, l lowered the rod & waiting for almost a minute it managed to free itself as well as wearing itself out while stuck, l got it up to the boat & into the net with a severely chafed 50lb leader Not a PB but still a good tussle & 83cm Out of the 3 boats there we were the lucky ones After spending another half hour & trying a few other spots with the poor mans downrigger to no avail we had a nice fillet each & I headed off to work for the rest of the afternoon
  13. The whole west coast north of Perth is an amazing area of mostly remote untouched fishing paradise especially from the Korean star ship wreck, red bluff (famous surf break), Quabba, Ningaloo reef, Emouth & all the way up to the Kimberly’s & beyond Back in 1989 with my girlfriend (now wife) we stopped for half a day at Q station (windy) & continued along the coast to coral bay, Ningaloo & ended up free camping for 10 weeks about 200ks south of Exmouth
  14. Your family is lucky to have you around supplying them most of the time with a nice mixed assortment of tasty fresh fish, another nice bag Yowie 👍
  15. Well done on a good session & photos 👍
  16. Maybe a couple of bracket supports, one on the winch post & one on drawbar with removable ladder when towing
  17. Another option if you have a hex shaped end on the winch is to use a cordless drill & socket to suite in low speed, preferably one with a variable speed trigger on cordless drill
  18. Good haul there Yowie, not often one can get to knock off a couple of good fillets from a flounder 😎
  19. Worth a call, no harm in asking & minus freight & can get most parts (has contacts)
  20. Brendan I use a local guy up at Chittaway point usually charges $50 including parts on my spin reels some of them I’ve given him we’re pretty ordinary & came back better than new (drags) from what I believe he works on all types, PM me & let me know if you want his details Cheers Dieter
  21. Another great mixed bag & top photos, those longtoms always put on a good show especially around the meter mark.(estuary marlin)
  22. Thanks Geoff, local knowledge seems to make all the difference the guy who set me straight suggested min 40 to 60 cm trace & showed me a suicide hook in a size 6 & said he’s no expert but the local fisherman who showed him the ins & outs has fished this area for 65 years Next time you’re up this way hit me up & we’ll try & get out for a session
  23. I was using a running float & stopper knot with one sinker at the swivel & the longer trace would flip over the top of the float & tangle. Unlike the estuary set up with a series of split shots the locals use either a stopper above sinker or a second strip lead pinched onto the line for extra ballast. I’m assuming because of the runoff & turbulence in the fishy zone Thanks mate, so true 😄
  24. Cheers, in the old days I used to bag out a lot mainly by the Missus though 🤣. These days I’ve managed to curb my addiction & don’t get bagged out or bag out as much 😄
