  1. Regarding Lyell twilight periods or into the dark, look for prominent points into deep water during the day & have a cast with lures that get down eg tassies while soaking a bait, only 2 lines per angler in the fresh
  2. Good workout & report, fresh livies definitely make a difference on catch rate & as Pickles mentioned good on you for releasing & tagging the bigger models out of curiosity was that close inshore or inside
  3. Thanks @zmk1962 for the opportunity of deep dropping again & sharing it with @kingie chaser & I as well as searching up on the dogfish It was also interesting to see how busy the whale highway was (stopped count after 12) & how much plankton was in the water. We certainly covered some ground & spots Cheers Dieter
  4. At the moment the water level is above 50% & rising (snow melt) when I’m down there usually before the June long weekend the water is hovering around 60%+ or - & never had trouble launching at the ramp next to the caravan park at the Thredbo turn-off flat lining & deep diver lures working the bays & points & wind lanes out in no mans land usually does the trick plus local knowledge re where the fish might be Good luck hope to see a report
  5. Another amazing read Waza & thank god you were wearing that woolly jumper & your mates were there to keep you safe & get you out okay That video that @JamoDamo put up really puts into perspective the great fishing & inherent dangers associated with your stories & love of fishing the stones 😎 “Respect”
  6. Great read & feed 👍 hopefully they hang around a bit longer, those big ones sure do go hard
  7. Great feed & bonus tigers, well done interesting about capacity of there stomach Have had that experience in 50m up at Coffs several times with really big ones following up legal double headers but not being able to hook them once they turned to head back to the bottom
  8. Nice swag of jemmies there Zoran & Wayno, that one you caught is a brute & you guys almost managed to bag out 👍 I wonder if the paint on the rio-bar ribs gives a bit of contrast bling & attracts whatever is taking them, maybe a couple of 20/0 hooks & some wire attached similar to your flathead rigs 😂 What ever is munching on those weights is big like sharks or maybe broadbill
  9. If you make your own Sabiki rigs or want to get more than one or two uses out of them a good way to store tangle free is to get some 25mm+ conduit or PVC pipe (cut to suit) & slide sinker & rig down with a snap swivel at other end & put a cut in the end of the pipe & rest swivel end in cut
  10. I guess at that depth & with the sharks around it’s more like a lucky dip Only if I want to spend Xmas on my own this year 🤣 Thanks guys definitely a fun day & interesting experience Even with the electric lever at full speed it’s surprising how long it takes to get the rig back up to the surface Looks like Gil out fished & out hooked us Whatever that humbug was it certainly put a good strain & bend in your outfit would’ve been good to see what it or they were Thanks again Zoran for an interesting & enjoyable day out on the deep blue 👍
  11. Great report & a couple of good mixed bags & feeds in that lot, sounds like you’ve stumbled across you own little honey hole 👍
  12. It was inevitable that this would occur & with such a varied age & demographic of fishraiders you’ve made the right decision in letting all of us know early Jeff 👍 Cheers Dieter
  13. Met up with @zmk1962 at his place & then headed down to wharf Rd & while launchIng just after sun up & 7*C the Asian guy mentioned in another post arrives just wearing his budgie smugglers & goes in for his morning dip (each to their own) wonder if he’s aware of the bull sharks up there in summer. Well the new 150 Merc moved Barrycuda effortlessly through the water at 50+k’s all the way to the heads & at roughly 45k’s out to sea in reasonably calm seas with about 8 knot winds we were at brown’s in quick time After running me through the rig & technique we proceeded to fish, the bites were slow for a while. I hooked up to what looked to be a solid fish which unfortunately turned out to be a slow jigger on another boat picking up my line, don’t know how they manage to keep at it because at times we were dropping to 480 meters We saw a shark on the surface & on a few retrieval’s we had fish on & then heavy weight then nothing, on two occasions even losing sinkers on the long wind up. The makos must’ve been thick Zoran managed to get a gem fish onboard with a couple of cookie cutter bites on it & kindly donated his fish to me which we are going to try tonight (thanks mate). Of all the other boats out only the odd fish was caught being a silver dory a small blue eye & one of Zoran’s mates with a silver dory & blue eye head confirming the amount of Noah’s around All up a great new experience & I couldn’t imagine dropping nearly 500 meters without using an electric reel being much fun
  14. Great report & good to see you’re still getting out there @Sea Cur They should hopefully still be out there as a mate with some friends managed a 5 way hook up off Sydney on bluefin & got 3 into the boat yesterday averaging 70kg & has offered me a portion 🤫
  15. Another great write up Waza, as I was reading about the huge silver ghost I envisaged the gaff shot going horribly wrong thank god for the minds ability to analyse dangerous situations in a blink of an eye for self preservation, what an awesome sight that jewie would’ve been (so surreal) good luck with your medical issues, hope you get back out soon 🤞
  16. That’s a great video & write up of your mullet session very interesting & informative, well done James 👍
  17. Love the photos & interesting to see how it’s done on the other side of the world, looks like you guys had a great 4 day break Vili sounds like he’s getting quite good at his netting & fishing skills 👍
  18. Thought so, it’s the July edition of the “monthly fishing magazine” it covers the east coast & now WA as well, size of a small newspaper with a glossy cover
  19. My bad if it’s not your son
  20. Hi Waza the two write ups you’ve just added to this thread of the various techniques In differing scenarios would be a great addition on how to target “ pigs” aka black drummer You've got me intrigued to try & target them Over the years I’ve lost a few & caught a couple as by catch one in particular about 5kg at night on pilchard & gangs under a float, have you heard of or experienced catching them on pilchard or fish bait particularly at night, from memory I think it was caught in autumn
  21. Another good report, great to heart you guys got some especially Mick, nice swag of fish out of curiosity Jeff you mentioned the weather being the deciding factor re seal rocks would that have been the water temp at Broughton being the deciding factor, cheers
  22. More great photos there Jon keep them coming Did one of your photos make it into the July edition of the fishing monthly magazine of your sons stonker tailor
  23. Wow that’s a great bag of fish, what was the bait of choice
  24. Great photos & gnarly sea, no wonder your son was feeling worse for wear love the contrast of the ominous sky & sheen on the water
