Ive never used an downrigger and a few people i know withthem reckon there a pain i just use a large ball sinker above a swivel im no expert but have caught kingfish with this in pittwater and off palm beach lighthouse

I rang hbird to see about a repair said it was too old but offered 15% off on a trade in (retail price)which brings it down to about same price as others i did say i wasn’t too fussed on features but latest tech makes sense i may have to learn something. One thing I didn’t like about the garmin was no maps for roughly the same price as the others that have them ,now i have to hear about how expensive boat is again from wife oh well

Haha pickles it’s nothing compared to work im a chippy working on rail jobs in my mid 50s i like a beer but thats all also breath testing every morning its a running joke how often i get random drug tested the young blokes reckon i should get an award ( of what im being tested for)

Has anyone used the garmin striker vivid 7 does it have basic gps and whats the difference between the gps and maps looks like i will go with 7 inch 5 is small

The last one was 7 but dont need all the features it was a helix with side screen etc

Day off work launched brooklyn about 5.30am headed over to pittwater for squid and hopefully a few flathead but only 3 squid 1 decent size other 2 bait size also threw out witches hats but no crabs at all 1shovel nose 2 soapies and an undersized flathead moved to patonga and 1 legal flathead i letgo had maretime on ajetski check safety gear all good a few hours later another one came over but checked computer and seen already checked 10 minutes later another one told him i had been checked already and said ok

So looks like the h bird sounder i have has stopped working checked the plug and getting power but sounder kept turning off and now nothing so looks like a new one needed i am not real good with technology so am thinking only need sounder and gps what recommendations under $500 as most of the things on the old one I didn’t use would prefer not another hbird as it had a few issues with it

I’ve never had a whale approach aggressively but have them within a few mtrs of the boat and while they are beautiful to see obviously there’s a danger sad to hear what happened . Yes was happy with boat today and waiting to give it a proper run ( and hopefully some fish)

I was tossing up wether to head out to flathead ground and realised that no i was testing the motor and didn’t bring offshore gear so not happening on that seen a whale capsized a boat out of the harbour and one deceased condolences to family and friends

Took the boat out today after rebuilt powerhead head fitted it run fine but only took to about half revs i know its not new but mechanic said take it easy just in case. Well not a good days fishing at pittwater got about 7 squid but all small used a few as live baits but nothing caught suspect tailor kept 4 for bait busyat ramp but all smooth a couple of of 23 ft boats being launched including a 23 sailfish that is a huge trailer boat lots of envy here yeah so not a great day’s fishing but was more about testing the motor funny how we complain about the cost of boats im still hassling the mechanic to give me a bill I’ve had other times when he has helped me out and only charged a carton of beer

I have a main tank of 65 littes and carry ajerry can as well going through 150 or so litres at todays pricedwould take a lot of fun out of it as I normally fish solo and wouldn’t be able to go as often and its been said before boats dont run on thanks i dont mind taking people out but if they want to regulars it doesn’t hurt to offer something . Guys I’ve worked with have run big 2 strokes and fuel bill is crazy

While i agree most of the big players seem to be good i don’t think I would buy an etec even though the mechanic i use is a etec fan and reckons most problems are from mechanics not knowing what they were doing any owners I’ve spoken to are happy with them but the whole parts and resale put me off . I don’t know if I would have another toey either as parts are not easy to get but saying that the motor i brought new in I think 2003 has been great never let me down I suppose thats what happens when you buy used you dont no the history. The one that crapped itself i paid $800 for about 7 years ago so it has had issues but $800 who really cares thats the joy of a twin setup besides running out of fuel ( i have done stupidly) you should always get back . The extra expense does need to be taken into consideration and not sure if I would do a twin again especially when new motors seem to be so reliable

Actually she said herself that costs were getting out of hand and taking the fun out of boating that price is a rough guess as the motor was around $16500 without prop rigging or fitting
