So after the tohatsu mc 40 crapped itself finally found a replacement powerhead had it sent from cairns to sydney it was only one to be had mechanic looked at it wasn’t too confident as you could see light corrosion in crankcase and told me to send it back.so wrecker said you can send back but cant replace it as there are bugger all around tell mechanic to pull it down first and see if its ok . Mechanic does and says it should actually be ok and strips and cleans it all good so today we fit it using all the old carb electrics flywheel etc on starting only running 1 cyl compression test all ok so pull off fuel pump diaphram buggered pull pump off 2nd motor (twin setup) still runs rough ok must be crap in carb mechanic tells me to do it as I’ve done a few times pull apart and crap everywhere i have spare parts galote so deap with another carb all good now just have to buy a new fuel pump and hopefully all good those 2 stroke motors are bloody strong

Fab how long are you leaving fuel in the boat just a few months?

Well yes the oil and fuel are mixed so no fuel no oil a bit off topic but how many times do you see people starting their motors out of the water makes me cringe every time.im waiting on a power head rebuild on 1of my outboard motors due to stupid head gasket made with copper rings in it causing the block water jacket to corrode

So what about the people who say run the carby dry to stop it gumming up and what no lubrication for last couple of strokes ,not for me

Fab 2 strokes are very basic engines I wouldn’t be too concerned

On that there isn’t much reef there so I’m talking about flathead but my boats out of action at moment so I haven’t been out for a while hopefully the water has warmed up enough to see the leatherjackets gone

Hey mate i fish there regularly if you head straight out from palm beach to about the 40 mtr mark start drifting there you need to make sure your on the bottom and if only catching undersize keep going deeper but be aware it is a slow dropoff good luck

Hi I’ve fished north island twice there are snapper galore also plenty of kingfish with a kayak you should have a great time and dont need anything special in the way of outfits i have only used pilchards there and have done well

I’ve used the acid plenty of times for cleaning bricks and things its not too bad if you’re careful with it certainly nothing to be scared about

Well done i tried pittwater on Saturday for 5 squid 2 that were good size 1 bango shark i flounder kept and 1 flathead dropped at boat .the boat has been having mechanical issues on 1 motor (twin setup) so no going outside mechanic taking a look this week fingers crossed otherwise will be off the water for a fair while glad somethings happening up river

I have 20 year old tohatsus both have peeling paint ii was under the impression us motors had better corrosion resistance but only what I’ve heard.any boat item is expensive especially motors so they better be good

Mate it sounds like you’re doing everything fine (dont start motor dry) i dont like it when someone tries to drive my boat when I’m getting the trailer ad most of the people i take out cant drve it properly its one thing in open water but a busy spot is not the placr to realise boats dont drive like cars at slow speeds.i am also worried about and dickheads and theives but not much you can do (99% im by myself) .I’ve even had a guy take a chunk out of the hull when hr reversed his boat into mine when i was tiedup and fetching the car anyway be preparing and try to be quick but dont let anyone ruin your day its meant to be fun

Most wharfs also have leatherjackets around a size 4 long shank hook and lightly weighted piece of peeled prawn should work well

Hi all so 5am at Brooklyn boat ramp plan was to try pittwater for a few squid before waiting for daylight to head out for snapper weather report was way off so offshore no good for my small boat . 2small squid and nothing else so went flint and steel for about 6 soapies i dont mind them being too small to keep as i like seeing them in the system.ok wind dropped off so back outside kept 6bluespot flathead so a few dinners sorted whales everywhere but we kept away from each other so no change of undies needed weather turned out great shorts and a t shirt worn bloody winter they say
