  1. Thank you. The bigger ones are better, over the pound mark. Bonnies in the salt mix right now. There are a few hoons in high powered boats. Last year I estimated one travelling around 70 knots, and a few days later, I was told he was bragging on faceache of hitting 74 knots. This lunatic is out before sunrise, no lights, still a bit dark. He would cause severe injuries to a kayaker/paddler if he hit them at that speed. There was a collision today at Grays Point, between 2 tinnies travelling at speed in a 4 knot zone. The occupants stick their fingers up at people who tell them to slow down. Well, a big collision occured, a female thrown into the water, found floating face down. Should be on the news tonight.
  2. Aussie fisher, you can legally scoop out the shrimp with a prawn net, as described above with its net size specified. Using a scoop net with smaller net size, less then 20mm, would need clarification with DPI Fisheries section. I have used a prawn net in previous times, and though you may lose a few shrimp, usually enough remain to keep for live bait, and good bait they are. Call the DPI to clarify the net you used, we do not want any illegal activity to occur with Fishraiders, but it will also inform others on this forum what is best to do. The mods on this forum are interested in keeping everyone safe and legal in their fishing exploits. Thank you, Dave.
  3. It's something that fishos know about, critters that live in the water - oceans, lakes, rivers, but not bath tubs. 😂
  4. Maybe you know about red meat. What about white meat like fish?
  5. Thanks Rob, fish a bit scattered but enough for a few meals, and bonnies for salting. Plenty of jet skis about yesterday, and the drop kick in his racing outboard boat. High speed all over the place, before sunrise, no lights. He is out there at those times as the Water Police and Maritime are still in bed, (though they have told me that is not true 🤣 )
  6. Very nice work there Mike, your time paid off. As for sequins, try Oxford Street in early March. Plenty of sequins around then. 😂
  7. A few toothy critters about at present, just lazy bastards not wanting to chase down a feed, instead waiting near boats for an easy meal.
  8. Not a big critter, but big enough to cause you a nasty bite.
  9. Fab, plenty of fish for the lazy or late-out-of-bed angler. 🤣 Thanks anyway.
  10. Thanks Bob. At least he left me something I can use for bait. 😂 Could have chewed off the lure as well.
  11. Thank you, happy with the catch. Thank you. Breeding time now for the sharks. Surprising how many people swim near the Audley Weir. Not for me. In the salt right now. Have been needing a few new fillets. Thanks Mike. No fishing, too bloody hot and humid, not good for a day out in the boat with the grandkids. Thank you. There was a few in the small school, then they disappeared quickly. Saw that report. Probably a few cruising about in all of the rivers.
  12. Headed out early this morning to Maianbar flats. Pumped some nippers, but not much happening. 2 just legal whiting, then a better sized one. Missed a few bites, probably small ones, then hooked up to an eagle ray. It took a little while for it to wake up and take off, then off it swam at speed, so I busted off before losing too much line. Moved to Lilli Pilli flats for a few drifts. Another good whiting and the bream, but some time between bites. Headed home and in Gunnamatta Bay, I saw some seagulls sitting on the water, so lobbed out a metal for the bonnies. They did not stay around for too long, and were feeding on anchovies (in the photo above the bream) Something took a fancy to one of the bonnies I was retrieving, a clean bite.
  13. Good work there Mike, not surprising the number of bream around mangrove trees, chasing tiddlers hiding in the root system.
  14. Nice whiting there Rob. I'm heading out in the morning to beat the circus. 🤣 Should have live baited a whiting for the toothy critter. 😂 The nipper pumper would have provided some brown burley if the toothy critter swam past him.
  15. Victorians also like catfish (cobblers). I was on a charter boat in the Gulf of Carpentaria many years ago. A few catfish were hooked (5 pounders) and a Victorian fisho asked to keep one. The boat skipper told him not to bring one on board or otherwise he would be thrown overboad with the catfish and made to swim 5kms back to shore.
  16. that is a bummer Bob. A fortescue spike is bad enough, I assume the catfish sting is worse.
  17. Sounds like a great day out, plenty of good sized bass. Not as hard fighting as the kingies you missed out catching, but the bass are still great sport.
  18. Some nice fish, bream worth catching, a good trev. You mentioned pike. Were they pike, or maybe snook? Looking at the photo is an area I pull up a few snook at times.
  19. Good on you for having a go. Won't take long to get with it again. I am not a carp expert by any means, but my limited experience is when the carp are surface feeding - mouth sucking the surface - floating bread crusts, or bread flies, would be worth trying.
  20. Entree and main meals sorted. Good effort for the conditions, a strong nor/easter is not pleasant during the early morning.
  21. Very nice bags there Rob. Hot and humid on the Gold Coast.
  22. Another good bag of whiting. Very nice. Shows that with some effort, a good feed can be caught.
  23. You want a big fish. Try an eagle ray on the whiting gear.
