  1. Looks good beside the van. Is the van ready to go?
  2. Thanks Bob, whiting tonight, and the crabs in a couple of nights.
  3. Happy with the catch. No swimmers for a while, so they will be nice.
  4. I prefer mine to be a bit cool, however, they are very nice. Just behind prawns.
  5. As a kid, I scooped them out of Lake Illawarra if I did not have any prawns. Most fish ate them, especially the blackfish during springtime.
  6. Thanks b.n. These swimmers are not that big, some meat in them, but a bit fiddly to remove. The larger ones have a good supply of meat. Regardless, they taste pretty good whatever size.
  7. Something to take home. Apart from the reddies, you can eat some of the others, if desperate. Were they green toads?
  8. Headed out early this morning to near Lilli Pilli and anchored. Apart from the crabs, and they are only just over size, pulled up the tailor. Plenty of fish jumping in the shallows, guessing they were mullet, pillies and other bait fish. Just under size reddies biting then all quiet. Headed to Maianbar flats and pumped some nippers, and only the one whiting. Nippers and hooks stolen by toads. Drifted in a few spots, then the northerly wind picked up and made drifting difficult for the other fish, so headed home. Spoke to a couple of other fishos, who also reported small catches.
  9. It paid off having a go. In murky water, the fish will not be afraid of having a go at a lure on heavier line, and this will make it easier to lift them up. The electric bikes are a danger when ridden at speed.
  10. Following a recent post by Aussie_Fisher regarding collection of Saltwater Shrimp for bait, I received a phone call from an officer at NSW Fisheries indicating that the maximum limit is just 20 per person. Once you have exhausted that number, you can scoop up another 20.
  11. Good to see you caught, and took home, some fish with a salty taste. 😋
  12. Very nice there Rob. A good kingie, big blackfish (they can go hard on the whiting gear) and a few nice whiting. 👍
  13. Nice work. Maybe not big fish, but certainly a few there to catch. 👍 The wind can be a problem at times. As for me, I keep the first few for a feed or 2, then release after that if I have plenty. Just to show the wife I can still catch something and she will have a feed of fresh fish. 😂
  14. Good effort Mike. Low tide concentrates the fish off the flats, while they are waiting to swim over on the rising tide. Low tide is a good one just on or before first light in the sky, the fish will be cruising about as the light increases and the tide rises.
  15. Well Bob, the forecast is ordinary so you chance it, but no good for outside. Kingies, reddies, bonnies, bream - nothing wrong with those - so back inside pays off. 👍
  16. Maybe a bit too much water Hank. Chillis and capsicums need water, however, too much causes root rot - found that out at home. A high nitrogen fertiliser also does not help. Tomato fertiliser has a balanced amount, which will help the chillis. Chillis, capsicums, tomatoes, potatoes are all in the same family.
  17. You might have missed some strikes, however, you managed a good array of species with some good sized fish. Great work.
  18. Nice whiting. Squirt worms I assume.
  19. Nice fish for your effort, especially the yella fella.
  20. Bream better than nothing. Can only hope the rain will colour up the water.
  21. Thanks Mike. The ring had been there for some time, weed growth on it, and it was cutting into the flesh on the back.
  22. Happy with the bream, better than nothing. After I threw in the bream skeletons, a few legal bream swam about.
  23. The rubbish bin recipe for the gasket. I was fishing in the spot where you have seen me before, but nothing doing for a legal fish. Not even a tailor.
