  1. Well I don't think I will ever own a Stella or Saltiga because I don't think you need to spend that kind of money to catch fish! Im not knocking anyone who saved their money & had dreams of one day getting one & finally fulfilled the dream. I think most of us will set down a realistic budget on what we want no matter the product, sometime we walk into a shop expecting to spend less but end up spending way way more, I know I do that like 75% of the time 😜😁🤣 There is a lot of quality mid priced & even lower end gear in the world that will do the job required but at the end of the day & while you get what you pay for I think what is more important is no matter the cost to respecting the gear, keeping it lubed, keeping it in good order by washing it down after each use & it will still give you good longevity & be reliable.
  2. Good to see you worked it out 🙄
  3. No idea, could be anything. I would say being a cheaper model it wouldn't be overly water proofed, so just being dunked could affect the grease in the gearing?? Have you taken to spool off & tried to spin the handle to see if it could be the main shaft? There are a lot of moving parts in a reel & its very difficult to diagnose an issue over the internet! The 2 I have are 2 years old, one is in the cupboard still brand new. The other I have been using for about 6 month now I it spins just like the new one. My suggestion is to take it back to where you bought it OR take it to the Shimano service centre in Taren Point. Being 6 months old its still under warranty.
  4. True, but whats actually wrong with it? Once you start pulling reels apart you also void the warranty. While I do agree with Derek, the OP sounds like he doesn't know to much about reels otherwise he wouldnt be asking the question so it could be worth getting it checked out by the Shimano service centre, if they find its not warrantable then just take it back. Its worth making a call & asking. Many people who don't know much about reels often cant put them back together once pulled apart! I have 2 of the same reels, they are pretty cheap but I still treat them with the same respect as my most expensive reels & expect to get a good lifespan out of them. @Will Wright, how old is the reel? Has the reel been dropped in sand? Has the reel been washed down after use with the drag done up? Had the reel been left out in the elements? Could be something very simple, could be not?
  5. How old is it? Even Senna's come with a 10 years warranty!
  6. Great effort Dave. Im sure it was a great thrill & you have the photo to prove it & put up on the board
  7. Nice. No sign of any kings around?
  8. And the good thing about those is their service schedules would be well kept up being a government agency!
  9. Regardless of the details motors should be run periodically. I run the winch motor on my 4x4 every 4 to 6 weeks even if I am not using it as intended & it the boat is in storage for say 6 moths then I start it with the muffs a couple of times to keep everything lubed. The worst thing for any motor, electric or otherwise is going to long between uses.
  10. @skirulz, this is the position of the admin & mods of the forum on this subject. Pretty much all threads related to the subject will be removed to stop speculation or miss information. It is what it is!
  11. Great advice from Rick, certainly not a reel worth taking to a service repairer. Give it a go, it is most likely only due to old grease/lube. This might also help when pulling it apart. https://www.reelschematic.com/reel-schematics/shakespeare-reel-schematics/shakespeare-alpha-schematics/#gsc.tab=0
  12. The Bonito & other species also love the Xmas tree/feather trolling lures. Worth a try when your on the move.
  13. Sounds like a great offer @LittleNipper, if the weather/sea are good it would be a missed opportunity imo. Not sure if you have a VHF radio to keep in contact but if not take a couple of UHF's along so you can communicate. There's only one way to get the confidence up & that's by doing it & if you have company well that's going to make it even easier
  14. Hi Skip, maybe check some of these out. Im interested as well & have looked into is though these posts https://www.fishraider.com.au/search/?q=downriggers&quick=1

  16. I recon it would be great bait, just depends on where you collected it from as in was it in a habitat protection zone??
  17. That's a shame but understandable given the current situation!
  18. Nice video & report. I don't think I am goin to waste my time getting yakka's any more. Seems like all they really want to take is squid!
