  1. Salt water would speed up dissolving of the hook & if your fishing areas of deep water& want to release fish with barotrauma then you should have a release weight on hand.
  2. What a maiden voyage, a king n all You made the right call letting it go, fisheries are often waiting back at the ramp & that 2cm could have cost you $250 a centimeter! Thanks for the report & hope to see you out there some day. What sort of boat is it anyway?
  3. I was going to attend one of these earlier in the year & then couldn't make it. I ended up doing the service on my 2 myself with the aid of the Marlin instructions. Very easy to do, didn't need to replace anything & was easy to do.
  4. No it's one length but it is actually telescopic & the lenght of it is only about 12 inches collapsed. It hit pretty good the day I took it to the range but shorter un distance to my usual hitting distance for the same club. Think it's from the 60's? Anyway back to the Alvey's. Have my eye on a vintage Luderick reel, might start adding to what started out as dad's collection 😁
  5. I've got one called the super stick. 17 golf clubs in 1from putter to driver.
  6. The first one looks pretty similar to a uni. I like the second one, I might tory it when going a bit heavier line.
  7. I don't use fluorocarbon leaders for the abrasive resistance I use them because of their ability to be less visible to fish over 90% of most mono's. Personally its an expensive test but I would like to see the top 10 or so fluoro brands tested against each other then test the top contender against the mono. I would expect the results would be quite different between different brands in the same weight class/diameter.
  8. As they say- a bad days fishing is better than a good days work 👍 Ah the serenity
  9. That's a great looking collection Pete Im sure dad had some of those yellow style reels but will have to look through the rest of the gear.
  10. You sure they weren't bullet proof vests 😜. Obviously some WH&S rule for them but of your not leaving land then maybe supplying them with swimming lesson might be our money better spent 🙄 They do frequent ramps to much imo & personally I think they need to randomly show up at piers & areas of shoreline for people doing the wrong thing. But that might be to hard work for them
  11. Sounds like a good trip overall & nice brown, Im sure it tasted nice. That's the thing about Jindy, its not great weather for very long so you have to make do & work out where to get out of the wind. Thanks for the report
  12. Was going to go fishing today but with all this smoke around I didn't really want to sitting out in it for hours so had a look through some of dads gear & found another Alvey. Not sure of the model on this one? Looks like the mechanism is the same as the 1113 but that has a Bakelite backing, the body looks like the 805 with the steel backing but the mechanism is different. I am basing this off info from this resource- https://australianfishingmuseum.com/alvey-2-2/# If anyone has any other Alvey history or online resource sources please post the links on here. There is some cool old stuff in this page as well on the same website- https://australianfishingmuseum.com/vintage-fishing-tackle/# Pictured with some more of dads hand made luderick floats & some vintage wooden hand lines he used to use, the large one still has 20/30lb mono with a small snapper lead & 2 hook rigged on it.
  13. Hi raiders, after all this talk about vintage Alveys I though it would be great to have a bit of show & tell thread about them. I continually read on here members asking questions about them or other members giving suggestion for different fishing applications so there must be something to them right! So show us your Alvey's whether its a strictly stays in the display cabinet reel or where in current use smashing up some Aussie salmon or jews off the beach & what your favourite moment was fishing with them. For me my association with Alvey is from fishing long ago with dad off the beaches north & south of Sydney, or when he was fishing for Luderick off the breakwall of Nelson Bay, pretty much an Alvey's in his hand if he had a line in the water. While I used them on occasions I was more of a spinning reel guy I actually threw one of dads rod into the surf when I was about 6 years old, He was down the beach with another set rod & I pulled the rod out of the holder & walked up to the rolling surf & tried to cast it but threw the whole rod into the water. I can still see him running up the beach waving & yelling at mum , of course I see it slow motion 🤣 He jumped into save it but couldn't find it, he was devastated & pretty angry at the same time.........…………...as you would be 🥺 Basically I inherited dads gear when we had to move him into a nursing home, there is something about looking at a lifetime of accumulating/collecting/hording fishing gear of all sorts, including things like Japanese roped glass buoy's to vintage sinker making gear, even unopened packets of hooks & tackle going back to the 1940/50's era. Anyway I will have to look through some photo albums to see if there is any of him casting from his favourite Alvey's but for now I'll start it of here with is just a couple from his collection, This picture even show's a few of the floats made from wood & cork for the Luderick he would hand make. Will post move as we go, Cheers Adrian
  14. According to the numbers on the metal spine in mine I have a 500/A3
  15. I know most operators have your interests in mind but still this sort of thing makes you cringe! https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/gold-coast-deckhand-cheya-handley-pleads-guilty-to-negligence-over-drunken-tryst/ar-BBXFOaR?ocid=spartanntp
  16. Very true waza, these days you buy something like a $1000 mobile phone & you know you will need to replace it in 5 years or less. They do make their reels very well which is testament to how long they last & why they are rarely replaced. Thing is, which is probably what they have worked out is that you have to be able to tap into new markets(Aust & International), new generations & new concepts like saltwater fly that is huge now to be able to generate sales. Good to hear they are still going!
  17. Should have a model number on the metal bar on the back
  18. No probs. Just curious where you are getting your info from? Id like to find more info on the one I have but finding info is hard, cant even find specific model info in the Alvey site, If you have some links could you PM them to me please. Cheers Adrian
  19. Ok mate, see if those have come through now?
  20. Resending as we speak. Not sure what happened Give me 10 👍
  21. Also another interesting fact for all. In 54 days, 2 hours & 25 minutes Alvey will be celebrating 100 years of making reels. Nice bit of Aussie history, glad they are still going! https://alvey.com.au/
  22. Hi GH, so home now & looking at the reel the model number on the metal bar at the back has 500/A3 so not sure if it is exactly what your looking for?

I don't normally like taking pictures without natural light as it doesn't really show the detail as well.

Not sure of the reel wood type, but it does have a nice grain to it.

Info is a bit hard to come by but couldn't find either the reel model your looking for or the one I have on this site.
