  1. Next time you’re up this way, we’ll get out and target them mate.
  2. Hey @Rebel, I’ll have to now as the jewie bit it in half (glad I didn’t have my finger in its mouth)
  3. Went out to follow up on a pretty average day on Weekend, hoping to get a good feed of flatties as having some friends for lunch tomorrow & I’ve been promising them fish. They won’t be disappointed as a fisherman’s basket. Jewie went 87😊 (tyJ) In the Hawkesbury, all fish caught on 12lb mono using an “easy rig” (sliding sinker holder) with 4oz snapper lead and bait = squid, fresh yakka strips and fresh tailor strips. (got plenty of Yakkas at West Head). Also caught 11 small Jewies (one at 68cm). Dropped one big Jewie at the side of the boat. 12lb is pretty light but the catch rate is considerably increased and if you take it easy and don’t panick, nearly always land the fish (using a net or gaff)
  4. Keep at t with the sp’s, that “camo is great colour, but motor oil is deadly, also watermelon and pumpkin seed are good colours. crabbies are great but a touch expensive.
  5. Nice work Kobi. I’m off to SWR next week, would you mind sending me a pm where you pump the nippers, I’ve never tried them up there and has anyone been getting blackfish yet?
  6. Went out for flick for Bass up Webs creek before the storm, expecting them to be hungry as the low pressure approached, but my buddy Greg and I were disappointed 😔. Went further down stream to Wisemans and caught lots of little Jewies , but some nice flathead on live prawns. Then headed offshore today with newbies Rick and his daughter Laura (not been fishing before) and pal Danny. We went to the 30m mark and boated about 30 Flatties, keeping only 7 (good excuse to go again tomorrow), many were sub 40’s but were released to grow bigger.
  7. Great work @TheFoosh, love the boot when they hit a surface lure.
  8. Champion report Derek - you’re a legend mate and we all have much to thanks you for
  9. A cracker day Basil, that’s one good Dollie and great to be getting rats augurs well for the future - thanks for sharing. Looks like a lovely boat mate. (‘Crusher?)
  10. Way to go @Aussie_fisher, I totally agree- going with a fishing guide is money well spent and a learning experience that will improve fishing knowledge (conditions, bait, weather, fish habits etc) significantly. Even if the day is not as productive as hoped and observant fisho will learn heaps and the cost is relative to what you would spend on tackle, bait, gear, fuel etc).
  11. Way to go @Bateau Stu, @Bennyg78and @DerekDgreat when raiders get together and a stonker of a flattie - we’ll done.
  12. The ramp is at “Skeleton Rocks” on Lower Portland Road, it is OK at high tide, but has a nasty drop off for boats over 4m and flood has washed the base away. It has s narrow and steepish sides (lots of black on the rocks where trailers have scrubbed their tyres). There is only bush parking and relatively limited turning. Having said that, if you get their early, and take your time and have a 4WD for low tide, you should be fine.
  13. Great Flatties Rob - so interesting how shallow Flatties will go in summer
  14. Well done young man, a great fish and well angled (had to beat nippers as bait), fishing out of a boat?? Did you get the herring near the boat ramp?
  15. Happy indeed, well done - on worms ?
  16. Brilliant report @Belligero, thanks for posting.
  17. Hey DM, great report, a great way to spend the day with your son, knowing you - your young bloke will continue to be respectable human being “Raise up a child n the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it”. (POV 22:6). 10 fish is a great start for him.
  18. In the Hawkesbury (Derrubbin) the bass seem to have a pelagic “season” when they school up and feed on the initial small prawn run. Once this finishes and the bigger prawns that are fewer in number happen, they appear to disperse and head up river into the creeks and smaller tributaries and it appears this may have started. Not a bad thing, just need to target them in different areas, so they will be around all summer, just further up the creeks and on the surface (which is great fun)
  19. Thanks for your update Geoff, finding appropriate weed is the perennial issue - one of my buddies sent me a pic of council pressure cleaning the hair weed from Corrimol ocean rock pool a few days ago and there was enormous amount being “flushed away”, might be a while till this source is available again (but it will come back). I guess “one man trash is another man’s treasure”.
  20. Way to go, solid healthy fish. Well done the fishery is looking good for the future. 🙂
  21. Took Mark, Josiah & Simeon out to have a go at “catching a fish”. I was pretty sure God would bless our efforts in Deerubbin and He did. HOWEVER they are starting to slow down (only got 18to the boat today), so it won’t be long till I get the kingie gear out and put the Bass gear away. Only one lure was dynamite today - black and pink Feralcatt, the others all caught a fish but the black & pink (Simeon on the rod), caught the majority. Went all the way to Webbs creek & Wisemans chasing flathead but only caught baby jewfish. A great day on the water with mates.
  22. Great work again Rob - family time is fun time.
