  1. To be honest I think you could buy several or a few knives for general use for $100. I am a bit of a traditionalist mostly I think a soft long thin flexy blade will do for most things but there are times that a stiffer blade would be better. Boning/filleting is one thing but then if you have to skin then is that same knife suitable for that to?? There is no 1 blade for everything really. Anyway I received this basic Japanese filleting knife from a friend a while ago & haven't really used it to much but am super impressed with the design. Flat one side for great skinning & a slightly scalloped upper edge for hugging the bone & maximizing flesh retention. It came to me with an unfinished wooden handle/scabbard so I sanded it back & put a stain & finish on it. It has a hidden tang design which I don't normally like but for this kind of job its ok form me. Great steel though that will keep an edge & last forever.
  2. Keen! Its blowing big time here on the coast. Be safe 😀
  3. I have to ask what is your budget? Then we can talk!
  4. You have to get out to anywhere that's like 200-450mtrs deep & then you have a chance.. Browns mountain is a well know spot for gems, blue eye etc. Not sure about south nsw. Maybe you need to get him the $1500 electric reel 1st before he can get out there. Seriously thought not really sure what you are asking here, you need to give us some details, are you asking for a spot on a map, asking for a charter, asking for just various locations if you can even get out there to those areas?? Help us help you 👌
  5. Nice bag Ash & Bruce but it has to make you wonder...…….. So what is the etiquette out there anyway? The larger the boat the more influence/weight you have to push others around & screw everyone else?? Or is there some sort of order & consideration of others?? Just curious 😕
  6. Better get all those chores done for the missus quickly then Baz 😁
  7. What was your trolling depth then Stu? Surface or using a downrigger or another method? Just curious on your live rig method for them thanks. I got to get one this year Its sending me 😅
  8. Welcome to the forum. Had a few donuts myself, but that's fishing some days.
  9. Nice effort mr swordie So your using 50lb braid for those then? Leader? Been waiting to see some decent ones show up, might have to give it a crack Monday.
  10. Well Im not shy of giving my opinion so here it goes- Why change it if it ain't broken 😀
  11. Although I haven't tried the method myself from what I have seen others do there is no reason not to put a SP on a paternoster surf or any other bottom rig as long as its on the right shaped hook & sitting in the water properly. If you look at some pre made 3 hook surf rigs they include 1 popper, that's an attractor that does catch fish, so a long shanked plastic could do well. Just have to be wary of the spin with some SP's I recon? Its worth a shot when not much is happening 😁
  12. I was looking back through some old posts today & came across many things & 1 of them was a congratulation on the forum/site being 10 years old. The post was dated 2014 The fact this site has threads from 2004 makes this site one of the biggest resource informative sites I know of? People, guests, members, new & old just have to stop & smell the roses some times & look back, not what you want to do today or tomorrow. Some great info in here that goes back a long way...………...……………………..that's history & knowledge right there worth looking at 👌
  13. Yes & no. Most yakers put their fishing time into fishing reports section like we all do. When it comes to people looking for general advice or input on the subject they go to the yak section. Plenty of stuff being posted by kayakers in both sections if you look for it & actually post! Good luck on the kings, it would be an experience to be dragged around on one of those things by a big fish! And yeh if a saw a shark that was as big as the vessel I was on then I would have to be washed down with the boat 😂 Good luck out there
  14. I think there is a little more to it than just post count because if you look at the leaderboard some people have very similar post counts but are different levels. Apart from post count could be something like how many times you have won the day, came second or 3rd etc. There is no legend on here that I can see but @mrsswordfisherman would have a table on it somewhere I'd say? Post count is irrelevant imo anyway. Quality not quantity rules
  15. 🤣🤣 Yep still kicking, for today anyway 😁
  16. Plenty of info one here for the information you seek. You just have to do a little work in digging for it! Ramps- Greys point, plenty of parking easy to use Yowie bay, little ramp, mostly street parking, sometimes have to walk 5 mins back to ramp. Haven't used the others.
  17. What you have or will eventuate to is somewhat like what a PWC is capable of in a normal licence so that's is a plus. You can go outside the open water line as long as you follow the safety rules which would be great fun!
  18. Both worthy journeys & have their own history but separate identities. All good, just trying to share some appreciation of our great country 😁
  19. Would like to see some of that, its always better to see the actual experience over some network video! Im a fisho but I am also a 4x4 outback traveller want a be. Comes in line with those wanting to do the 'loop' & how you see what that 'loop' is & how you travel it??
  20. The object wasn't to display if 'yours is bigger than mine' just a train route that deserves some respect on how it actually came to being & the what its like along the journey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you actually watch the video you will se they both share the 1st 350km of the same track. I guess you missed that bit though?
  21. For me hopefully 😁 Hey each to their own, we all do what we do for our own reasons but you must both earn to much money to buy all the gear & then put the fish back just to stroke the ego & then go down to the fish co-op to then buy the fish you want to consume. Sure I like the idea of the hunt as much as the next person but at the end of the day its also about putting food on the table for me Sorry I don't get it but if that's where you get your kicks @Restylethen that's all that matters!
