  1. A good day spoilt! At least you boated some. I donated a rod, reel and live squid to a king as well. The King will be on a short leash too!
  2. What a top days fishing. Nice report well done. Not much gets past Yowie so I'd agree Trag with concave tail instead of convex.
  3. Nice report those squid are a good size. Usually people on here struggle to post pics the first time. I was thinking you had it in reverse. Nice hearing about some squid from the depths.
  4. Thanks for your detail reply. Much appreciated

    Squid spikes

I have a couple of spikes but never given them a go. I wonder which is more effective spikes or jigs if fished side by side.
  6. I was there over Christmas Burrill had been stocked by the DPI as had some other lakes. I didn't hear any reports for Burrill. I spent one night A few days after the dark in Meroo lake which was also stocked. We went ok but I think a week before would of been better. The fisheries were out checking licences so make sure you take yours if going out. Also if you do go there I'd advise arriving and walking in before it goes dark. The lake was closed so non tidal.
  7. That's a great days squidding and good size about them too. Well done.
  8. Sorry it wasn't worded well. I meant the bay, the harbour or hacking.
  9. Hi Geoff, A few colours like mentioned above would be a good start. I think it just depends on the day. The pilchard looking yamashita has been pretty good for me and an orange hiramtsu, the red and the white glowing Egihead has also produced well. What system, time of day and depth will you be trying in.
  10. Although I have never met Stapo, he has shared some advice with me also and answered my questions. Even when going fishing ( not prawning) it's fun having a look in the water to see what's about. Cheers Jason
  11. Great report Holls sounds like a cracking fish. Even the one in the pic is a cracking fish.
  12. As far as I am aware "spikey flathead" are a different species with no size limit and are fine to use as bait.

    Trailer tyres

My previous boat was a single axle trailer with a 5.3 Bowrider on it. After about 10 years the tyres were visually fine. We had them inflated to about 60lbs. In the way up the coast we were pulled over by a policeman on a bike. He told us the inside of one tyre had a bubble. We went to the nearest tyre shop and replaced it, thankful he observed it and warned us. On the way home a week later the other tyre blew out 1/2 an hour from home on the m7 destroying the plastic Gaurd as well. In future I will be replacing them earlier despite the tyres appearing fine. My take on it is they were beyond there service life and probably near their max load so the safety margin was used up. Ironic they both failed within a week. Funny enough on the first one I suggested replacing both and the tyre shop looked at the other one and said its fine. Another thing to be aware of is the salt build up under the bead. These tyres had been removed and cleaned a few years before that.
  14. Great write up. What a nice feeling knowing using your experience to have it all come together on the first attempt.
  15. Nice catch Yowie. You sure have the hacking figured out.
  16. Very well written, you had me right there with you. Very unlucky to not get him after that long. You will remember that for a while to come.
  17. We were getting the tailor on pilly cubes, salmon and tailor fillet. Just a small running sinker. We could see them at the back of the boat.
  18. Great report X site. Well done on the jewies and for helping out another fisho. We were the third boat at Mol pt. We heard the yelling but when you arrived so quick we figured you were mates. We started out at a similar time but chased squid to start with. Getting three before heading to Mol pt. The wind was pretty solid from the NE and the water still pretty dirty. The wind eased right off before kicking back up from the south after midnight. Up until then it was a warm night. From the time we arrived the water was alive with Tailor the first few hookups resulting in lost fish due to the light leaders. After switching to 30lb we started landing them. The average size was probably over 40cm, I was keen for a just legal model to send out for live bait which we eventually got a few. We haven't caught a Jew before but we're hopeful it might be our night. With the amount of Tailor about we chose not to feed our squid to them. We did put down a live tailor that came back a little shorter. The next one remained untouched. We also had a large squid head out that was just picked at. At the end of the night we had the three squid, a bream a few tailor ( some were returned). I have let most of my tailor go the last few years, but they cooked up better than I expected so the next ones won't be so lucky. We finished up after one am. I would of liked to stayed for the tide change but just couldn't stay awake in the end. When we got back to the ramp a boat had been towed in by the water police with a battery issue. They said they also had a Jew. It was so nice to be out on the water after about a month off it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Well you just moved it up my list. How long were you there? What did you do? Any tips?
  20. Nice report Holls. Probably a good thing you didn't hook the flattie, he might of just had some extra jewellery, with 5 lb leader.
  21. The etecs are way better than the old two strokes, I am happy with mine. If you use only the XD100 oil, I am pretty sure they can change the engine settings to use half the oil.
  22. Great feed and plenty of bait there.
  23. Hi Jeff, I can't help much comparing the quintrex to savage unfortunately. I had from new a 2003 quintrex freedom sport Bowrider 5.3 m. 115hp Yamaha, In 2015 we changed to a 2015 Stacer Bowrider 5.7 150 etec. Comparing those two boats the quintrex was more stable at rest, it was prone to prop ventilation/cavitation whilst doing water sports. The freeboard seemed higher. The Stacer turns on a dime, rides better but is not quite as stable at rest. It is more sensitive or responsive to the trim settings. Ideally I think trim tabs would suit this boat as it can sit a bit port or starboard whilst underway. To drive I would take the sportier feel of the Stacer every day it just feels so much better sitting position and all. Just my opinion. If I was only fishing outside I would think a cabin is the way to go. For general all round use the bow rider is unreal. The half cabins we had every body wanted to sit up the back rather than be closed in. The bowriders are also good for casting lures and jigs from especially without a Bimini on using it as an open boat. Also very easy to get the anchor ect, we never use the bow cover on the water, it just cuts off half the boat. I use mine inside and outside in the right conditions. There are plenty of centre consoles and walk around doing the same. I hope that helps.
  24. Reading your report I started to think you might be finally having a day like us mere mortals. But no you came up with the goods again.
