  1. Nice score, its like finding a $100 note in your jacket you havent worn for 12 months 😄 Good luck with the resto, brings back some memories! I had a 1974 Datsun 240K GL 4SPD hardtop coupe, it was stock but still had a bit of punch, would have loved the GT version. I wanted to put triple weber's on it but just never got around to it before I sold it, the thing would have flown with those triple webers...............................................
  2. Thanks Hoods, not a complex recipe at all but the crucial part as with any seafood is just dont over cook the fish when poaching. Plenty of other recipes im my heat to come. Maybe a more modern & popular version would be flathead taco's or flathead mac & cheese?
  3. Knot that it has anything to do with finishing of the knot itself I am still loving my Daiichi Seiko 2.0 FG tool. I have done the knot by hand many different ways but I find this tool helps me in the closeness of the winds & also when finishing off the knot.
  4. Thanks Donna. As previuosly mentioned my ethos here is to show fish being used other than what is generally perceived as normal by most. Not that there is anything wrong with beer battered flathead & chips, I enjoy that myself from time to time but its more that variety is the spice of life. Apart from a bit of mayonnaise in this recipe its pretty low fat but rich in omega3 with the fish & the walnuts plus you could also use low fat yoghurt as the dressing as well which would again reduce the fat level. Just something out of the box from what most fisho's would try I think?
  5. Hi Raiders, thought today I'd do a twist on an old classic salad with adding the ever available humble bread & butter fish, the flathead. The original salad has been around since the late 1800's, created at New York City's Waldorf Hotel, later known as the Waldorf-Astoria. Originally it comprised of just 3 components which were apples(whichever variety you like), celery & mayonnaise. As usual some chef decided I like extra bits in mine & then things like walnuts & grapes were added. Anyway I say if it contains apple, celery & walnuts that makes it a Waldorf. For the flathead after deboning the fillets I made a stock with the bones, stained it & then dropped the boneless fillets into the simmering stock to poach the fish for a few minutes. Cooled this down a bit in the fridge while I sliced the apple(red gala), celery(used the inner more tender stalks), the stock can be saved & frozen for another dish at some point. When slicing the apple dont forget to squeeze some lemon onto it into a small bowl & mix to stop discolouration & the lemon willadd flavour to the mix. Although in this instance I did poach the fish there is no reason you couldnt panfry the fish with some butter & olive oil & let it cool. Once cooled flake the fillets as large or as smallas you like, I like to do this by following the natural segments of the flakes. Again straying away from the classic I used some chopped coriander instead of some parsley & as it had seafood in it I also topped it with some lumpfish caviar as I had some in the fridge from xmas day. Along with the roasted walnuts & sitting in some baby Cos leaves its a nice combination of flavours & crunch which can also be served in the middle of the table in a large bowl with the Cos sliced or diced & mixed in. Also if your on a pescatarian diet there are some decent vegan mayo's available now or of course you could just do a mustard vinaigrette 😉 Squeeze of lemon & a drizzle of olive oil, it was pretty tasty 😁
  6. Im like Zoran, never had a knot failure or one come lose. Either the main line breaks or the leader, never the knot. What type braid are you using??
  7. Are you putting enough tension on the knot before closing it off? I think everyone has their own way of finishing their FG's, the way that I have come to is I close mine off with a series of 3 or 4 sets of half hitches altenating in directions & the use the so called Rizzuto or what I just call a reversed uni locking it all off, never had it come undone. On the leader tag end I think your always going to have a little exposed, I have tried a few other ways of trying to cover it over with other finishing knots but think the way I settled with is more important just to secure the knot over covering the tag of the leader. After you cut your tag end you could try doing another reverse uni or regular uni on top of the other??
  8. Dremels are great but personally I think they are for pretty lite duty jobs. Do you have an air compressor?? If I was taking on a project like a car I think I would be getting into some gear with some more grunt & while I am not saying dont get a dremel I if you have a compressor I would be lookking at getting some air tools like this- https://www.totaltools.com.au/56278-ironair-air-sander-surface-finish-kit-stp7734kia Or this- https://www.totaltools.com.au/120638-sp-air-sander-gasket-kit-sp2331h-1 I always like to get tools that I know will go beyond the job I am doing right now & have multi uses.
  9. Imo those river cats dont produce that much wash, was in the five dock area a while ago & past quite a few & I was suprised about that myself. But then I compare that to the tugs & harbor pilot's boat in botany bay. Everytime they go past I have to hang onto the sides of the tinny as the nearly 1mtr wakes go past the tinny Mind you there arent any no wash zones around there anyway.
  10. Just take the water supply away & problem solved.........no?
  11. I hear what your saying about cordless Zoran, that are very handy especially if you have no power in your garage like I do. I have to run an extension cord out my 4th floor bedroom window every time I want to do someting in the garage 🥴. But still I always question the longevity of battery powered gear, even if they are ion lithium & even more so when they are internally powered(non removable batteries). I still have some of dads old 240v drills from the 60's & they still work a treat, noisy as hell but they still work😄 I know nothing these days is meant to last that long but I laways hate having to buy the same gear again just because of battery failure. In saying that if my Husqvarna petrol chainsaw ever fails I have looked at the new battery versions in most 18V brands & they do stack up very well. And the fact when out bush in the 4X4 I wouldnt have to take a different type of fuel would also be good, just charge it up from my duel battery system. The EZ change adapter & cutting discs are great to.
  12. Great work Jeff, I bet it felt great to get the B.I.L & the nephew into their 1st fish on SP's & a PB to boot Enjoy the family cook up 👍
  13. Never been there but found this. http://www.bluemountainsfishing.net/rivers-streams/eastern-streams/kowmung-river/
  14. There are never cops or maratime around when these twits are at it unfortunately! Straight from the RMS- Reduce Wash’ and ‘No Wash’ signs are placed in areas where vessel wash is likely to cause damage to the foreshore or vessels, or injury or annoyance to people. This means you should: • Reduce speed as necessary to avoid creating wash that affects others. • If in doubt, take your engine(s) out of gear and wait until your vessel is no longer making any wash before re-engaging your engines and carefully driving forward. • Look behind occasionally to see if your boat is creating wash that affects other boats or the shore. • If your wash is causing other vessels to rock at all, or is causing any sort of breaking or ‘slapping’ waves on the shore, you need to slow down further. • The surest way to minimise your wash is to travel at just above idle speed – at this speed all vessel types will produce minimal wash. January 2020 20.001 Where a ‘Reduce Wash’ or ‘No Wash’ and speed limit sign (eg. 4, 6 or 8 knots) are present in the same area, do not assume you can travel at the maximum speed posted. That will depend on your vessel and the wash it creates at slower speeds. You may need to go slower than the speed limit to minimise your wash. For example, if your vessel is small and heavily laden, you may need to travel at less than 4 knots to avoid generating significant wash – regardless of any higher limit. This is much like on the road, where maximum speed limits don’t always indicate the actual speed at which you can safely drive in all conditions. Don’t forget that even if there are no signs, it is still an offence to create waves that cause danger, inconvenience or damage. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/safety-rules/publications/dont-make-waves.pdf
  15. Well you cant go past an actual Dremel imo! I have a basic model(think its the 200 series?), I would buy one again & upgrade to say a 3000, 4000 or 4300 model. As usual comes down to the coin you want to spend but I think the kits with the tools are good option.

    Insurance

Wow, thats scary! Hope your ok? I guess it really pay's to look at the PDS. I have an NRMA policy & what your suggesting in your goods lost is not covered in the standard policy, only the items associated with the boat. However it is possible to cover additional items but even then they will not cover certain items like phones, computers, camera's & other things stated in the PDS. Have a look at this NRMA PDS on pages 10, 11, 30 & 31. https://www.nrma.com.au/sites/nrma/files/nrma/policy_booklets/boat_pds_0620_all.pdf Its sounds like most insurers will not cover the loss of these items?
  17. Well the way I see it Davidson Park is in the southern northern beaches area still affected by CV19 restrictions so you shouldnt be visiting the area until midnight 30th December ! If you live or are staying in the area then different story! I dare say you could be stopped & asked why your there when entering the NP. https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/what-you-can-and-cant-do-under-rules/northern-beaches#essential-reasons
  18. I'd be ringing the local council OR NSWNPWS, they control the ramp. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/picnic-areas/davidson-park-picnic-area-and-boat-ramp/map Looks like its open to only locals but not the picinic area. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/picnic-areas/davidson-park-picnic-area-and-boat-ramp/local-alerts
  19. Cheers scratchie, still in the development stage & untested but hopefully they will have some success, whether more success than SP's well thats another story? Still I just like working with my hands & they seem to work well in NZ so Idont see why they wont work here with the right colour patterns. If it happens that I catch fish I think that is an even bigger reward for something I have made over pulling a packet of something off the shelf. But I will still have some packets of SP's in the bag of course just in case nothing I am doing with these is working 😁
  20. Well I dont fly any more but I always had a tapered leader attached to the main line which would finish in 6lb & then used to add either a copolymer or fluro leader as the leader would shorten & if Iwanted to change the float rate of the end of the leader. The use of either would depend on the time of year & if I was wanting to use floating(dry) or sinking fly. So I would have a roll of both in & 6lb in my kit, the fluro for sinking & the copolymer for floating. This would explain the difference in both material. https://blog.fullingmill.com/co-polymer-or-fluorocarbon-leaders/
  21. Thanks, I'll check those out. I have watched a fair bit ofdifferent youtubes from different people & you get a a little bit off some & morefromothers. I have been basing what I am doing to start of with this guy, using some of the bucktail materials. He seems to be pretty knowledgable & presents a good series of vids all be it for the northern hemisphere. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNa-v9eS67PqJTFV46PzzsQ
  22. A nice combined birthday & Xmas present. And the mixed bag is a great bonus 😉 Well done 😃
  23. Correct, but its inflate for 12hrs https://www.marlin-australia.com.au/servicing?lightbox=dataItem-jk0njwgi
  24. Just look around the neighbourhood at council clean up time, where's always old bikes around my area.
  25. Yes it will be interesting to get some results when I start using a few different one. I have seen some on the net that are huge puffy things with long trails & you cant even see the hooks To me you dont want them tolong otherwise it will probably be like using oversized SP's to the hook size, you just end up losing the back end of the plastic & hook up less fish. The main target at the start will be flathead but I know they are pretty affective on snapper as well. Just a bit of fun anyway 👍
