  1. I hope you have one of those little signs saying tank water used for irrigation I've heard of people walking past properties & seeing all this water being sprayed everywhere & reported them only to find out they used tank or bore water.
  2. I just use a uni knot for SP jigs. Loop knot for hard bodies with bibs so as to help the lure maximize it's action.
  3. BYO mate! I have 2 at home, not to hard or exy to put one in your boot.
  4. Nice fish tyrone. Probably around 4kg at that lenght
  5. Save you money! If your after a set for home then Imo you can get some decent quality knife sets from places like Peters of Kensington OR Victoria's basement at a reasonable price for far superior quality & will last a lifetime! https://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/Knife-Sets.aspx Personally I like to have a choice of knives for different fish. Flexy blade for me work better on smaller round fish where you go through the whole fish in one motion or where precision slicing is needed while a firmer long blade is better for things like whole Atlantic salmon, Kings, etc. At the end of the day its whatever works for you in the type of fish your processing.
  6. I though I was in a star wars movie, just waiting for the 2 planet or moon to come up beside the sun. Sydney was a mess today with all that smoke haze, but I still think myself lucky that's all Im getting!
  7. Would be an interesting thing to put to authorities It's funny how we have all these increasing water restrictions in place yet every car wash I see in Sydney is in full swing!
  8. Someone in a recent thread was talking about the water quality of Port Botany & how much 'metal' maybe present. While there are no current warnings out from the DPI on Port Botany(yes some estuaries are affected) we all know that our ports will have some sort of pollution due to storm water runoff & boating/port activities. Anyway I saw this on the net & thought it would interest some of you, make of it what you will- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6363737/ Periodic table- https://mineralseducationcoalition.org/mining-minerals-information/periodic-table-of-the-elements/ This second one is a bit older but specifically talks about Sydney harbour- https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/researchpapers/Documents/pollution-in-sydney-harbour-sewage-toxic-chemica/Pollution in Sydney Harbour.pdf **There are warnings on the DPI website on where fish caught should not be consumed & also if you are able to consume them just how much to eat or not to eat. https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/recreational/fishing-skills/fishing-in-sydney-harbour
  9. Actually I like that bottom knot for its ease but that triline knot looks like a winner!
  10. Personally I wouldn't use a vegetable based oil on anything mechanical but hey each to their own.
  11. There you go, I stand corrected ๐Ÿฅบ
  12. Good session in the end Nice release on the flathead ๐Ÿ˜‚
  13. And here we complain about losing gear the the jackets ๐Ÿ™„. Watch what you say Tony, you'll upset the greenies! Not that I have tried it buy shark is supposed to be a good feed, not sure if that is species specific like gummies. Shark fin soup anyone ๐Ÿ˜œ
  14. I mean what type of hook not the size?? Suicides or circles will be best, will generally hook through the corner of the mouth. With flathead it also pretty important to keep their head below the water line for as long as possible until your ready to net it, as soon as they breath air they with thrash & can throw the hook easily. Best of luck for next time.
  15. What area are we talking about? What hooks are you using??
  16. Very nice Taz, do you brine the fish before hot smoking?
  17. Now that's a thumper, very nice scratchie & Woodsy And here I thought these crackers were just a winter thing
  18. I remember times years past when the luderick were on you would look down that wall & There would be 20 or more guys including my old man with 10ft rods & floats viing for position & catching them by the bucket full, no bag limits in those days!
  19. Lol, not sure how old or worldly the OP is, he may have to google that one ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜… I think we can all attest to the fact that one day a spot might be going off & 10 minutes later its all over for some reason. I have never seen a Kingfish caught on the outside of the breakwall, not saying it doesn't happen but I have never been at that place at the right time & that's what fishing is all about, being in the right place at the right time & that cant happen unless your there so that's time on the water you need to put in!! That's fishing! I do recall a thread or 2 a long while ago about fishing land based at Fingal producing. Again research the area, took at techniques like either using floats, bottom rigs or lures.
  20. As scratchie & others have subtley eluded to asking for exact spots is like asking for the key to the chastity belt of your 1st born adult daughter ๐Ÿ˜‚ People have had to put in many an hour of hard yakka to get these spots hence why they are very protective of them. As for time, well we are all time poor but we all have to make time to fish, doing the hard yards is what it's all about, that's part of the satisfaction you get when you have done the work, done the research, looked at an area for a target species habitat, go it the tides right, got the tackle set up right etc. I think there is enough in these pages & the net to start you on your way. I have almost walked to Tomaree point casting SP's & hard bodies along the way & back for nothing, nice couple of hours of investigation though, I have caught a nice 50cm flathead in front of that facility near Marrungbanga reserve. Just do the background work & get out there & try your luck. One thing I think the bay really needs is a good fishing guide, both land & boat based. I see plenty of charters of which yeh they also tend not to want to take people to their most favoured spots either! Could be a good different career opening or wage suppliment there for someone........
  21. And another one- Like I was saying, do some research & you will get some answers!
